This MV is based off of the book "Demian" by Herman Hesse (which is what RM was quoting). It's about temptation and the loss of innocence. The statue that Jin kisses is Abraxas; Jin kissing Abraxas is like him finally accepting that he has a darker side and giving into temptation.... there is also the apple (forbidden fruit) references throughout. The green is like a manifestation of temptation/poison... it's the green smoke that you breath in... the green absinthe the RM drank, the green wax dripped onto Jungkook's finger that he then puts in his mouth... SO MUCH MORE. Most BTS MVs have multiple layers of meaning; you can just enjoy the visuals and song for what they are, or you can delve a bit deeper into the metaphors. Nothing they do is an accident. :)

RM uses chocolate wings and chocolate chicks has a metaphor for dark or black wings and peaches and cream is like saying black and white or good and evil in a different way, they are all metaphoric words

NOTE all of this is only the mv and the songs theory and not the real life. Blood, sweat, and tears have a deep meaning I recommend reading the Blood, sweat and tears theory. but it is a song about losing on's innocence or the fight between good and evil. The painting that Jin was watching at the beginning of the song is called "the fall of rebel angels" where you can see that good and evil are fighting together. The theory goes like they (members) become tired of fighting all the anxiety and depression (Suga also having them in real life) so they commit a sin, we don't know what kind of sin they committed. in the mv ( music video ) JK is hanging on a swing which means that youth is never coming back ( simply that no one stays innocent forever ) and you also see a painting behind JK in which you see a man hanging on a swing in a woman's arms (Story or Icarus can't write the story it's too long haha). then we see suga sitting on a chair on glass which shows how close he is to fall into the endless darkness and his lyrics from jins point that how his sin in loving someone. then there is namjoon and he is very pressured because he has to take care of everybody we also see a colorful sense just after him that can mean what they (members) want to do the colorful sense can also be related to one of their old music video in which we see rm standing behind him is a colorful wall with a mirror on it which says ' you need to survive' the colors mean what they want to feel and the colors start tempting them and then we see rm drinking a green colored liquid which means he had chosen the forbidden ways. Jk also licks a drop of that green thing (IDK what it is haha). then there is jhope on a chair in water that could represent that he wants to attempt suicide because he has been going through depression for a long time as the others and we see a statue behind him which can be related to the Icarus story. they have apples on their plates apples are also a sign of temptation and sin ( mentioned in the Demian ). all of these things are tempting them. Then we see Jhope looking to his left and shooting the arrow andThe arrow hits V but instead of blood we see colors jhope tried to ward off the evil inside V, that’s why instead of blood, these colors appeared. And the reason why Jin stops and turns around is that he notices Jhope’s arrow. He notices what Jhope is trying to do and it reminds him of what is wrong and what is right, which is why he stops and doesn’t drink.
I already said that Jhope is supposed to be one of the innocent and good ones (but he still has suicidal thoughts and depression - the black water), which is why he takes it upon himself to help V and tried to ward off the evil inside of him. Before it was only Suga sitting on top of the thin glass but now Jimin joined him. In his hand, he’s holding an apple (the temptation to sin), whereas Suga is holding a blindfold. And the cloud around Suga disappeared, meaning that he’s now thinking clearly - or better said he’s sure of what he’s doing.
    Now, what is he doing?
Jimin holding the apple means that he’s close to giving in to the temptation, but there is still something holding him back, that something being the hope he still has inside of him. Jimin thinks that the beautiful times will come back again.
We see Suga holding a blindfold because he wants to cover Jimin’s eyes. He wants Jimin to close his eyes to reality, to the fact that sinning is evil, and give in to temptation. He wants Jimin to stop hoping for something that will never happen, something that will only cause him more pain the more he keeps thinking about it. Here we see V pushing himself off the balcony and in the background, another painting is shown. This painting is called “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus”. It shows the fallen Icarus, after flying too high.
Okay, the first thing you need to know is that V and Icarus are connected. They both give in to the temptation (Icarus: flying higher even though he was told not to do so / V: losing control and killing his dad) and they both fall down.
But the reason why V is smiling as he falls down is that he is evil and he basically doesn’t mind it anymore. He fought to be innocent again but it didn’t work, so he completely lets himself fall into darkness. Then we see Suga blindfolding Jimin because at that moment Jimin started to believe what Suga had told him about giving in. But then Jimin starts struggling, trying to break free because he realizes that he shouldn’t have listened to Suga’s “advice” but it is already too late. Not being able to see the truth anymore, he chooses the evil path. This is why one by one the hands are moving away. They start choosing evil. That is the reason why Jin reaches out for the balloon but youth is never coming back. The melody that Suga plays here is also related to Demian.
Then suddenly we see the boys running towards one exit. And Suga pulls Jimin with him (Suga manipulating Jimin)After giving in to the temptations, the boys all choose one exit. That exit leading to the path of evil. Here we see that Jhope also has given up. V looks back to see Jin hesitating.
And we see that the last thin layer that covered V disappears. Seeing Jin hesitate, V covers his eyes, trying to convince him to come along. Then he sees the statue with the black wings. And just like how everyone was tempted with something they want, Jin is also met with something he desires. Wings. (will be explained in Awake)
He can have both the wings and the boys but he has to choose the wrong path for that. And in the end, he decides to give in, that’s why…by kissing the statue, Jin chooses the evil path.
V lost his wings after falling, just like Icarus. Both of them misused the power of their wings, which is why they lost them, and because of this similarity, throughout the mv, we always see things that indicate Icarus’ story. (more to that in the J-ver). then we see jin reading something that is “Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können” is a German quote by Friedrich Nietzsche. Translated: “You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.”This quote is from the foreword of one of Nietzsche's works. It is telling people to overcome themselves and seek to be something higher than a human (an overman), which leads the journey towards self-mastery.
To become an “overman”, one has to accept and love the path they chose, not minding repeating their actions. Regret indicates the presence of resentment or fear, contradicting the idea of an overman, which is characterized by courage. Being capable of establishing one’s own rules and not accepting given values, is another requirement for becoming an overman. Only the people, who struggle against their surrounding environment and their reason for living in it, can have chaos inside of them. That chaos is the needed mentality for creating new things. Now, why is Jin right in front of this quote? As said before, there is a “last human” and an overman, and right now Jin has to decide between those two. He can become an overman by fighting against his fate and creating chaos inside of himself and this is exactly what Jin had done until now. He had been struggling against his surroundings and his reason for being there (death) because when Jin killed himself it was “in spite of the moment” and he hadn’t thought it through. For one moment, everything had become too painful to bear. After his death, he realizes that the members start suffering because of him and he himself wants to be with them. But it has to be in spite of the moment because otherwise, he wouldn’t have any regrets. By creating a dream world, where he was still alive. He had been struggling against his fate. But he caused his death and now he regrets it and fights against the thought of being dead (=not being with the boys). And someone who feels regret cannot become an overman, and he also can’t become the last human since he doesn’t accept his fate (which is dying).
Unlike V, who fought against his surrounding environment and his reason for living in it (his abusive dad). He fought and killed his dad. At first, he did feel guilty and regretted it (suicide) but in the end, he accepted it because he realizes that no matter what he does he couldn’t regain his innocence. Unlike Jin, he also accepted the fact that he had committed suicide.
I know this might be extremely confusing, but this is the only way I can explain it. For you to understand it better you have to read Demian since these two are connected.
Next to Jin is the flower that represents restored innocence. In his reflection, we see his true self, who doesn’t regret the fact that he loved the girl and still does, even though it was her, who drove him to death. Then we see his reflection cracking showing that he decides to change his true self in the sense of him fully giving up his love. The Lily will be explained in Awake.
All of the above theories are theories that I read on different websites. thanks

BTS never simply regurgitate a hit song, instead they present something that fosters exploration. Random info...the green drink is Absinthe, a once popular cocktail called " the Green Fairy" for its hallucinogenic effect. The Art pieces are reproductions of treasures of Art History and reflect the lyrics. JK appears on a swing with a lollipop, but he abandon his childhood, when he levitate his body posture reflects the famous sculpture by Louise Bourgeois The Arch of Hysteria. Based on the book Demian by Hesse. Also includes a quote from Nietzsche, and refrences to Yung's Map of the Soul. Nice reaction, stay well.

I strongly recommend you to watch an explanation video (There are several out there.) cuz there are so many symbolisms and deep meanings to this mv. All props and backgrounds are detailly set with some purposes. Dance movements are choreographed to match the storyline.

"Peaches and cream" is a very popular English (both British English and American English) phrase to describe something very sweet or beautiful/pleasant either in taste or in description, "Her skin is like peaches and cream" - and is based on an actual popular dessert or breakfast dish from past centuries in both countries.... Obviously it's not a phrase common to Eastern ears like it is to westerners, so it's interesting that someone in BTS was familiar enough with it to include it in the lyrics. Probably no accident it's in the English lyric part.

The vocal run (ta da da... ah ah) melody was composed by Jimin, the first guy who started singing. He is known for stunning runs including the famous 9-note run in his solo song Serendipity. "Mani mani mani" means "more, more and more". The song is about temptation. Turn close captions on. Thank you for the reaction 💜

Well, I’m a week late, sorry! This is a hard video for anyone to begin to interpret . Finding it without watching some of BTS previous videos that have other symbolism has to really add to the confusion. There are a lot of levels here. The visuals, the lyrics (btw, cc really helps. There was some English, but not enough. Also, their lyrics are always poetry, well worth reading), and you can but there are other factors. This is based on a book, described by other commentators, but there is also a level connecting this to something known as the Bangtan Universe. This storyline connects various albums, pieces, books, a videos game, a webtoon serial. It is really hooked in by the Japanese version of Blood, Sweat and Tears. Yeah, two languages, different information. It takes a sense of humor, is my response. Hope you enjoyed things enough to continue looking at some other BTS. I suggest On Kinetic Manifesto, Black Swan, Fake Love. Enjoyed your reaction. Your confusion certainly echoed mine when I first saw this.

    Dope
    Fire
    DNA
    Fake Love
    Mic Drop
    Boy With Luv

And their live shows or dance practice (since there is no MV for these) of "Anpanman", "Go go", "21st Century Girl", "Baepsae", "Dimple" and "Pied Piper"
I will be looking forward to see you slowly becoming an ARMY (BTS fan).

Butter and Permission to dance are the most recent #1 hits... but i love Mic Drop featuring Steve Aoki and On (Kinetic Manifesto) .. epic dance breaks and overall fab... you won't be confused and I agree with you about Blood Sweat and Tears..
