What a festive workshop you've worked out for us, Jackie! Glamour de luxe 💖! I'm sure everyone who's into patina effects and working with metal leaf and paints will be so grateful for your hard work and stamina! Your dedication is admirable! Hope you've had loads of delicious treats this Christmas while enjoying togetherness with your loved ones! And hopefully Santa's bag contained wonderful new art supplies for you and all your future art adventures! Aloha from Berlin ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Mahalo, Queen! Merry Christmas to you and yours 💜 Metal leaf an patinas were my first intro into the world of decorative arts. They hold a special place for me. Thank you so much for watching during the holiday 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I've been a master hair stylist for 30yrs... I certainly saw the length lost and your bangs trimmed... I'm sure it does feel like a lot of weight off of you!!
My goodness what interesting info, thank you Jackie. Ive used metallic watercolour paints and pens which l really like for detailing work, but this is another level. I loved the rust effect. I really like rust and photograph it often. Here in Scotland the minerals in some of the rock look like rust which l like to add to seascape paintings. Thank you qgain for all your creative hints and tips. Wishing you a great 2024 ....Alioban
Alioban, I am so happy you enjoyed this video. I love the rust too and think I might do an entire day of "rust-play" soon. Also, there is a very good chance I will traveling to Scotland in October - I'll be on the lookout for the the rust in nature 🥰
Oh, my goodness! I just happened to stumble across this lesson, and such GOOD fortune on my part!! This is absolutely BRILLIANT and as you pointed out, nearly effortless when it comes to creating so much beauty! I love your spirit of trial and error and experimentation. I've repeatedly had my art teachers say this, yet I love it when I actually see it being demonstrated. I'm as enthused as can be about this, and you're right -- I can think of allllll sorts of ways to use it. So, thank you, Jackie! You now have one more subscriber, while Amazon now has a new list of creative products I'd like to ultimately get! ; )
Thank you very much, Pia! I'm so happy that you enjoyed the video. It's true - most art teachers do tell us to play and experiment, and yet as adults, it feels like the first thing we forget when creating. Enjoy your creative explorations. 🥰
Diligent, hard-working, industrious? 🤔 I really don´t know which would be the right expression for you posting such a special video for us just before Christmas. I have medium and goldleaves in my stash for years. Time to use it and make Christmas glitter and shine. Have wonderful times with your family and friends, Jackie. Stay healthy and happy and charming. Yours, Britta 🥰
Thank you for all your inspiring videos! I'm learning a lot from you and enjoy watching your videos and incorporating some of your techniques! Thank you! Christine
Wonderful video. Thank you for the detailed instructions and beautiful results. It’s so nice to see how the products work and how you work with the products…awesome! ❤. The steel paint and patina were new to me …what awesome results. Wow!
Jackie, I LOVE your handle "glittergrandma!" The steel paint was new to me as well. Usually I use iron paint for the rust finish, but the Mayco kit came with steel paint, and I loved the result. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment 🥰
I loved the metal leaf so much! The patina ruined it for me, because it wasn't subtle enough for me. The rust effect was amazing. Thing is though, I can do all of these effects with just acrylics, in such a way people won't even know. Granted, it takes a bit more time, but I love going back and forth with layers of paint. Add some isopropyl alcohol in the mix, and a rough sponge.. even better. And no need to buy all the extra stuff. (But I NEED that variegated leaf omg!! 😅) Did enjoy your video though, so going to check out more of your content. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Grumpette - thank you so much for watching! The variegated leaf is so much fun - you'll invent ways to use it 😍. You are right - all the finishes can be done with acrylics too, and that's fun too. 🥰
After I finished filming this one, I thought of a whole bunch of really fun uses for patina'd papers, so I promise to use it again in a future episode. 🥰
I so enjoy watching your videos, Jackie. I hope you never tire of exploring all these different mediums and materials to inspire us. How do you find them all-you must do tons of research and grow your stash over time so you can share what you learn. I wonder-do these metal paints and patina solutions work on primed canvas? And pardon my ignorance but can we assume that they’re archival?
Hi Cris! I have a ton...a ton of supplies that I've collected over the years and still enjoy experimenting with them - it never gets old. The paints and patinas do work on canvas, but to get the best results be sure to gesso first. Also, if you get the Modern Masters kit (link is in the description), it comes with a primer. I really don't know if the metal paints are archival. My gut says "no," but my gut is wrong frequently 😂 I'll investigate and let you know. 🥰
Patina solutions are acids. They will continue to react after they are dry, eating away at your substrate. This is why the Modern Masters kits come with an acid-proof primer. Just in case anyone needs to know. I feel like a dork pointing it out, like maybe I'm saying that rain is wet.
Great add to the conversation, Pens! I did not talk about that in the video, and it is important, especially for works that are meant to last a very long time. You’re not a dork - sometimes we need to be reminded that rain is wet 😂. I really appreciate you adding to the conversation! 🥰
Another wonderful video. Thanks for sharing your techniques. I have one question. What is the dark blue background you are using to create that fabulouus rust finish. Acrylic paint on paper?
Hi Carol Ann! Yes, the dark blue background is acrylic paint. It is Golden Paint’s heavy body Payne’s Gray and there is no gesso below it. Thank you for watching 😀

So much easier than painting it to look like patina or rust! ❤
It really is, Joanna - you just have to have the patience to wait 😂🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio that may be hard! lol!
Jackie! You are such an inspiration! Thank you for spoiling us with the genuine gold leaf. Loved your generosity and effort. Subscribed ❤
Hi Nato! Thank you for your kind words, and for reminding me that it's almost gold leaf "season" again. 😂😍 I may have to make some videos on that 🥰
I really appreciate all that you share. I have learned so much from you…and also spent some more money on supplies to try. 😊
Thank you, Sherry! I love it when I get new supplies - it feels like Christmas morning to me 😂🥰
You are so cute.... I love your art... You have taught me a lot.... Have a nice holiday and winter

Awwww, thank you Dawn! The haircut was necessary. He took off 4 inches, and I lost 20 lbs 😂😂😂
