Peripheral neuropathy is common with diabetes,….once you get a little older (50’s) It’s no joke folks. Loss of feeling in your feet, loss of balance, loss of leg strength . Jogging, hiking, biking, skiing…hell, just standing for any length of time…forget it. Walk like your 80 in your 60’s There’s no cure, it only gets worse. I don’t wish it on anyone. Watch your diet, stop the alcohol. Yes, it’s tough to do, but you can do it.

If you know an alcoholic, please know they are drinking because they need help. They are suffering emotionally. They believe they can ignore they way they are feeling by drinking. The drink satisfies them at the moment but the root of the problem requires professional guidance. Bottom line, urge the alcoholic to seek help. No matter how angry they get, tell the closest people around them what is going on. Alcoholics keep secrets because they are ashamed of their dependency. But please know you will be saving a life.

It is pretty simple. The fact is - alcohol can either raise or lower blood sugar. Some alcoholic drinks, such as vodka, whiskey, vodka, gin, and rum, are high in carbohydrates and have many calories, which will significantly raise blood sugars. If you want to enjoy a glass, you can, but it is better to choose dry wine or beer, wine is very low in carbohydrates. Red wine even holds some benefits - some studies show that a glass of red wine can reduce the risk of heart diseases for people with well-controlled type 2 diabetes and better glycemic control.
We also have great video about how diabetic people might be affected by alcohol, check out if interested!
