This is one of Nic’s best. It’s a terrific film that actually has a purpose and surprisingly profound meaning. Nice review. I just picked up the new BluRay release and plan to review it on my channel soon.
i thought this analysis would be boring because the film isnt popular and its the only one on youtube.. but wow, great essay so many interesting things you pointed out that i completely missed, made me appreciate the movie more
This is one of my absolute favorite movies! I'll often put it on in the background just for the music and Spritz's soothing voice.

Just saw this film based on your recommendation and it baffles me how more people don't know about this film. It's pretty great.
By the way, the film's writer (Steve Conrad), wrote one of my favourite shows called 'Patriot' and it has a similar feel to the Weather Man. You can find it on Amazon Prime.
I almost exclusively watch horror (and action) but man, this one really took me by surprise. It hit me right in the feels unlike a movie has done in years. Great film, and definitely a sleeper.

Thanks for the review man, I actually love this movie! The only thing Im still missing and I was hoping to get an explanation is that in the food court seen when his son is eating a corn dog he suspects his son is gay? or is it just me? I have watched this movie over 10 times and it gets better each time i watch it. But i dont get it, how a corn dog is a gay overtone? im sorry it just puzzles me. The other thing i think you missed and its important for his ark, is that his father was paying attention on his living funeral when David talks about the song that reminds him of his father, like a rock. And his father picks him up and puts the song. His father doesnt think his son its a fuck up and aknowledges that david always worries about his kids. ooh and the father read the novel. LOL THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THIS REVIEW!
The kid always looks like he's about to bust out laughing during that food court scene. It almost shoud've been used as an outtake.

Great work and editing, I especially love your analysis that he goes about doing things in obligation, thinking he's doing right thing and it should be enough, but nothing is sincere or out of a true effort to address a problem. "My wife and I have problems so let's go to therapy. My daughter has self esteem issues so I'll buy her a bunch of expensive clothes. She said archery is cool so I'll buy a bow and lots of lessons and we'll really bond and get close. My son, I don't know the first thing about him and i know he's fucking up, but I can just stay cool and not confront him about anything and maybe he'll think i'm cool, and then he'll just tell me on his own what's wrong. yeah, i spent time with him like i'm obligated to do, what else do you expect? i'm doing the right thing."

Great analysis but you didn't mention the fact that Dave's dad was also ill throughout the film
i finally get it. thank you. he's the weatherman. he's fast food. he's a low effort, insincere, minimal focus stand in of a person, of a father, of a husband. he thinks he's there but he gives you nothing....and he KNOWS he disappoints and is totally clueless to the real reason why.
This is actually a very touching movie about family and learning to accept one another. Without the humor, it would have been a very dark depressing movie. Cage is an amazing actor
i couldn't figure out why he only carries around a buck with him throughout the film; i don't know if there's supposed to be some deeper meaning behind it or if it's just a nod to the fact that most people use cards nowadays
I haven't come across one person who doesn't like this movie. It's one of my absolute fav movies! Love it!
I always laughed over the irony of his speech that gets interrupted by the power failure, then he fails to resume after power is restored.

(SPOILER ALERT)
This movie is about the son of famous, accomplished book author(Michael Caine). The son (Nicholas Cage) grows up spoiled and selfish and ego-centered, possibly as a result of wealthy parents (we can see this trait in the way he treats people in a condescending manner). The main source of his pride was his job as a Weatherman, which had become his persona overtime, and so things begin to unfold when he realizes that he wasn't predicting weather - he was just a clown on TV (which is why people threw food at him, like they do a clown). Through events unfolding in the movie he begins to question his own identity, and as result, his self-worth. He then tries to find a centering activity (Archery)that will give him a sense of accomplishment, and also tries to reconnect with his family whom he had neglected in his pursuit of his father's shadow (fame).
That's the movie in a nutshell, without too many spoilers. Great movie.

I think I commented to you awhile back that you did a fantastic job, but I don't see it here. Anyway, something occurred to me. Do you think weather man cheated on his ex wife while they were married? They showed a flashback of him dressed as Abe Lincoln sleeping with some woman but it was unclear how long ago that was, it didn't seem like he waa separated all that long from her b/c they kids looked nearly the same age when they sat down for dinner, he was lusting at a woman on the streets, and we all know how self-centered he was and he didn't seem all that happy with their sex life via his note. So do you think he was a cheating husband? Again, fantastic work here. I swear we correspond in the past.

this movie goes deep into the huge perdition of the north American society... it's a tribute to this poor American stereotype that is made as a fastfood... a moment taken to feel the emptiness of his soul and his life, the seens of this movie keep turning in my deep head everyday more than 10 years now, I feel like I want to scream to people around me, go the hell watch this movie....
some seens that catched me: the camel toes seen, the seen where his father told him he should carry some cash on his wallet, like a rock of bob seeger... it's a criminaly ignored movie!
