I love how you could tell the Wired Staff member was so excited to have Nic Cage that she asked several follow-up questions.
I think part of that is because they need the guest to give longer answers and he wasn’t.
She was probably just trying to squeeze a bit more out of him, as he really seemed like he was in a hurry to leave.
You could say, she was "wired" !

I also think maybe they do that sometimes and try to edit them out, but he was answering the follow-up questions in a way where they had to keep them in for context.

You know why I think we all love him so much? He is unapologetically, fascinatingly, endearingly odd, and he has absolutely no pretention about him. He doesn't feel a need to justify himself, and he projects that on to everything around him. Nick Cage is the constant. He is the human spirit.

He took that interview so seriously, but then he reminded me that he's not on social media; which made the whole interview really make sense. He doesn't have that kind of "laid back" mentality for interviews like this. Good episode!

OMG! Same! I just got into Cage (I didn't realize he was in on , not the joke, but the eccentricity of his persona), but only because I ran out of watching Keanu films (I do re-watch MOPI like 4 times a year, but most of them after 4 or 5 times Im good).
This man is an international treasure. He is absolutely unashamed of who he is and what he does, and the rest of us are fortunate that he fully embraces it.

He seems like a genuinely polite, charming and well-mannered person. I also appreciated that he gave full, informed answers to these questions; made sure that the people wondering these things got their answer, instead of making a half-hearted joke that misses it completely. I mean, if they don't want to answer a question, of course that's their right to not answer that question, but they can just say that too, like he did with the Graceland question.
Anyway, nice guy.
I loved his "next movie" question. He said he's in Renfield, name-dropped the less famous and less-experienced actor, and stated that he is "supporting* Nicholas Holt. That's a classy move right there. He's a quirky dude, but I like his wavelength.
@@oscarx-ray3545 to be fair Hoult isn't exactly that much less famous than Cage (granted, Cage is pretty much legendary) and when he says he's supporting Hoult it just means Dracula's role in Renfield is that of a supporting character, as opposed to the main character, which is Renfield. Still pretty humble of him to present the fact as it is, though

@@KSE828 "THE BEES, THE BEES!" and taking a lot of roles to pay off his massive debt. A lot of jokes were made at his expense for a long time, but people are starting to come around, not the least because he's been in a couple of great movies lately.
They did something similar to Keanu Reeves when he started acting too. I suppose it's part of the process.
The problem is half of his movies are masterpieces and the other half are comically bad
@@tristankendrick2582 He owed a lot of back taxes to the IRS and took any role offered for a while. He's apparently paid what he owed so hopefully there will be fewer bad movies in his future.
He doesn't have to do anything special, he's funny with out trying to be. He's such a likable guy, and he seems very modest with these answers too.
I really like that Nicholas Cage is just rolling with the fact that people want to see more of him being exaggerated Cage. I would love to hear all his stories.
This man is as professional as an actor can get. Even when he talks about his lesser known movies or those that sparked criticism or mockery among the masses, he addresses them as his children, as integral parts of what makes him the man he is. Not only that, he clearly pours his heart out in every single role he's in. And calling that attitude "commendable" would be a grave understatement.

@@steveosk8s As much as some critics lambaste his method of acting, you can tell he has passion and respect for the art of film making. Otherwise he might have tried to answer some of those questions. People who know films know that you get what you perceive out of many films, not what the director and anyone else intends for you to perceive.
i like how he acknowledges the fact that people interpret his movies differently and wont answer some questions as to not ruin someone's perception of him and his movies.
I love how genuine he is. As crazy as some of his roles make him seem, he's a very down to earth, modest guy with a buttload of talent.

@@johnpacino4491 The little in-between moments that they don't cut give it away. I initially found him offputting because it didn't seem like natural behavior like these interviews usually are.
Turns out he was still putting on a show with himself peeking through occasionally. It clicked and I "got it". He's very straight-faced about it, but he's being silly. Nick is a nice guy. He just comes off as odd until you see it.

What I loved about this interview is that Cage isn't faking emotions. He's genuinely polite, charismatic, and a true nerd when it comes to pop culture, mentioning Marvel, Mary Shelley and other stuff.

Nic Cage is the point of intersection between sanity and madness. And he seems to be happy as a clam about it.

He also has a charismatic yet borderline disturbing intensity about him. His story at 1:30 about going to stunt driving school is a perfect example. At the end of telling his little tale, he lets out a meme of an unexpected single chuckle at the end while his body remains completely deadpan. I love him.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is truly Cage’s tour de force. He plays an exaggerated caricature of himself, and in doing so, reveals the real outrageousness of his life and the nuttiness of his imagined lifestyle. Very funny, and definitely worth the twelve bucks.
The first half of the movie I was like "wtf is this? this is so cheesy" then all of a sudden it changed gears and became one of my favorites movies I have ever seen by the end.
The LSD scene had me wheezing what a great movie

I can't believe people still think he's a bad actor, the truth is that it doesn't matter. What matters is that he's ALWAYS the right casting for the role he plays, regardless of how the project he's in is received critically. (what I mean by that is that I can never think of someone who could have done it better in that role)
He was nominated for two Oscars, won one, he was in a Martin Scorsese movie and in a Ridley Scott movie, he was acclaimed for his performance in Lord Of War and was in a bunch of big summer action movies.
He might make a lot of bad movies now, but he definitely has talent and used to be an A-List actor.
His response to method acting with "depends on the method" I'm pretty sure is what makes Nick who he is: legendary.
I like how even though he went into this interview a bit serious and bored, it managed to surprise him with some good questions. This let him look back on his career and reveal parts of himself to the audience. He started getting dramatic and I hope having fun.

He is endlessly entertaining. There is just something about this guy. I think it's a willingness to go just about anywhere in a character (even if that character is a version of yourself). He has done some of the wildest things on screen of any actor. I think that's why you just have to love this guy.

Nick makes choices in his acting roles. Sometimes the movie isn’t good, but it’s always entertaining. I’d rather be entertained then like the movie. He’s simply awesome.

Nicholas Cage is authentic, very articulate with obviously a sophisticated mind, and he is sooo talented, we just watched Family Man on tv yesterday, he was so genuine and bright, what a beautiful couple they were with Tea Leoni in this movie, and his smile always brights up his beautiful face

I honestly don't think he's talented as an actor. I've always thought he was a terrible at that. He seems like a nice genuine guy, and can be entertaining, but as far as acting goes...I never thought he gave great performances. He always over-acted and made his characters seem odd and even slightly insane.

The man actually UNDERSTANDS the concept of viewer imagination saving things better than rigid minute detail. There is a fine balance between being 'lazy' and hoping the audience suspends disbelief in order to create excuses, and knowing when you don't NEED there to be an explanation for something, because it doesn't have any real importance beyond that which the VIEWER injects onto it.

I just saw Massive Talent and it’s really funny, lighthearted and loved that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. The chemistry between Nicolas and Pedro Pascal is off the charts, any fan of Nicolas Cage is going to love this movie.
