A helpful video. However, I was curious to know how long and/or difficult it was to cut the plastic seal to access the slot to put the cabin filters in. I am about to do it myself and was wondering, since using a utility knife can be a cumbersome task. Also, I was able to purchase cabin filters from AutoZone for $20, whereas most other places charge closer to, or more than $30.
Great Job Sir...Owner Alert! The '98-2001 Altima models as far as I know have some really bad engineering incorporated in them. This difficulty in accessing the cabin air filter is just one of them.Another one that you may want to pay attention to the sub-frame.The EVAP line drips right onto the sub-frame and will rust it out over time. This causes a very dangerous situation especially with your control arm .If you are not lucky, you will have to junk the car.The most painful part? The engine and trans will most likely still be very good.Look out for that!
Just to clarify, the air conditioning only drains over the control arm at a solid area. The control arm is painted and I just replaced my control arms due to high milage and the ball joint being worn out. While the control arm was rusted, it was not weakened in any way. This isn't a safety issue in any way, and a lot of cars drain is less than great locations. I have had a 2000 Altima for 8 years and the engineering is fine, i have had no major issues.
Thank you so much for making this video; I used it to install a cabin filter on my 2k Altima. I drive through a lot of fertilized farm-land and past the county dump every week for work, so I really appreciate having a cabin air filter! I'm wondering though: how on Earth did you learn how to do that?
Imagin that you are catting a milk gallon a little bit harder than your milk gallon. But it is not difficult. You just have to be extra careful. The utility knife is very sharp.
I was able to do it with relative ease, though the space to cut was rather narrow. The only issue I had was cutting the top part because of the bracket from the glove box being a bit in the way.
Hi just wondering since you've been down there if you know if the bottom half of that evaporator housing can be removed easily. I have just bought a 2000 altima and the bottom of the condense housing is cracked leaking water into the car.
Toyota Rv lol I got the car last year, it has 170k miles now and it still had not been changed! It still had the seal and my professor in my autotech class was capping on me for taking so long
Thank you so much you saved me from a headache went in blind ended up almost taking out the plastic housing.
Great job appreciation of your video.
This works for 1999 nissan altima as well. Clearly explained video.
Can you tell me where you got your filter because none of the filters I bought fit

Thanks. You explained and demonstrated this perfectly.
Quite confusing: did you remove the old filter, or was there never a filter in the car ? And if there was never a filter in the car, why add one ?
Man mine didnt even have one to begin with thanks for the vid

Thanks for the great tutorial. I wonder why they make it so hard to access.
That's what that black plastic box is! Didn't even know this car had a cabin filter. Definitely gonna change it!
great video!!!! i was wondering as well why is there to many missing pieces in the a/c guess they wanted us to do all the job

anvil8478 lol me too I scuffed my knuckle on that and got a nasty burn
I used pliers to rip the last little bit out.
Where did you get the metal clip from?
?? Anyone
Phoenix Cars If you buy a genuine Nissan filter for this car it will include the clip.
Where you got the metal clip to lock the filter?
do you have to cut the thing on the old filter?
Great video will be installing or replacing the filter today lol assuming mine came with a filter.
thanks a lot for the video! this was very helpful
Can you do a plain video showing and explaining where the pcv valve location, I really appreciate it. Thanks😀
Will it be the same thing to change it in a 98 altima
Thanks a lot for this.
Did those clips come with the filters?
Will it be the same to change a 98 altima

harmas the condenser is in front of the radiator.
Where did you purchase the filters? I looked for these but was told this model did not have a cabin filter
This is the same experience I had with no filter for this car and the ones I bought don’t fit
what was the part number?
I don't think the 1999 Sentra's come with a cabin filter, I've been looking through schematics and can't find anything!
Hey you have a ford rug in the passenger front of your nissan lol just taught you should know :)
@websk8r007 Hi, very interesting question because, I was amazed that it did not come with a filter. I used this car without a filter for ten years.
Toyota Rv lol I got the car last year, it has 170k miles now and it still had not been changed! It still had the seal and my professor in my autotech class was capping on me for taking so long
Thank you.
thankns buddy.
Thanks!
Please excuse me I meant evaporator in my previous comment not condenser
