This totally works! I just finished doing this on a Nissan frontier 2000. Mice had gotten in there and made it really stinky and messy so I decided a filter would help. I used a Dremel with a cutting blade to cut off the slots where the filter now goes.
Thank you for explaining the need to cut those out. I was getting confused in other videos when the filter just came out and I had solid plastic. Wondering where the filter was when it turns out Nissan was just too cheap not only to put them in but to even cut the plastic slot
Hello! This was a confusing thing for us as well, but we found out the hard way and wanted to share on how to cut and add filters to the vehicle. Like you said, Nissan just wanted to save money even on making the cut for the filters. Hope this was helpful. Take well care!
That is the best instructional video I've seen. Great job. I am not that mechanically inclined, but was able to install the filters in my 1998 Nissan Frontier without a hitch. I actually ended up using an air compressor to get all the old debris out from the housing. The output from the fan must be 40 or 50% greater. do you have anyother videos like this? I need to take out a part of the lower console where the cigarette lighter is located along with a place for a power point which was not installed.
thank you. my premiumgaurd filters from Amazon dont fit when interlocked but fit well the interlocikng tabs are oppostite to each other. The clip goes on the the two filters in the middle of the slot.
Hello! Thank you for taking your time to watch our video and that clip came with the filters from when we bought them. Probably not all filters out there being sold are not going to have the clip. Take well care!
Thanks for this video just what I needed I stumbled onto it searching for Nissan Xterra 2000. Looks just like this and go figure it needs plastic tabs cut out. Also where did you get that clip from that secures the filter in place? Did that come with the filter you bought? Not sure where I can find something like that.
So, I tried to add a filter. I cut away everything, and tried an STP 1731 filter, and I can't get it to fit. It's just like....a millimeter too big. I'm not sure what to do. Maybe another brand might fit better?
Thanks for the informative video. I own a 1997 model, but you've put me on the right path.

I was thinking about this for awhile but this makes a lot of sense. Thanks
This is the way I installed it, but other videos show the airflow facing left. Makes sense to me like you for the teeth to mate..
