rebuilt a 288xp for a friend and the cases are different, the hole where the throttle lever comes through is to the left more on 288xp, so I must have a 281 case, its weird the lever is misaligned and i cant achieve full throttle. awesome video!

they do this when the throttle pivot pin works it's way out at one end. Gotta pull the fuel tank back an inch to see it, then line the pin up with the hole and push it back in.

I’ve seen a few saws like that . I think they do it on purpose cuz the handle floats a bit and u pull up to get 100 % otherwise it’s possible to break the trigger since they float so much

Haha that’s funny I used to use heat shrink as they wear out.

Nice :) sounds like a drop of oil may have helped. ‘‘Twas squeaking!

You're exactly right! I got it lubed ;) The carbs when they come out of the ultrasonic are spotless and perfectly clean/dry. Until some fuel gets pulled through them, the throttle blade & shaft "squeak" if clearances are still in good order. I usually "prime them" by giving the shaft a quick squirt of Watered Down-40, but I forgot this time. You got a good ear!

@@samishsawworks5870 I probably should have messaged off my other account I’m following you on “vintage engine repairs”. All good :) haha yes, it’s surprising how just a drop of lube makes all the difference especially in instances like this :)

I’ve used a zip tie a few times myself.

My 281 used to do that too. I just put a zip tie on the end of the throttle lever to get it to full throttle. AND... I almost forgot.... HOORAY 288!!

So, turns out, this is a 181SE set of cases & 181SE 52mm jug with 288XP stuff thrown around it. The combustion chamber differences are pretty crazy. I think it's going to make a strong runner when done. Although it's a 288XP carb, I wasn't sure if cylinder differences caused the change in "gap" between throttle arm and carb. Interesting your 281xp was the same. Must be "a thing" with these. HOORAY 28.....181!! Haha

I’m curious, will it hit the top cover? I guess you could trim the throttle linkage…. I’m sure you’ll get it worked out! Thanks for sharing buddy! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏

It has a high top 288xp cover on it. If it hit anything it would be the HD filter setup. I checked and it clears the bottom of the filter. I have no idea how it would do with the low top though.

@@samishsawworks5870 I’m sure you’ll figure it out! I’ve seen a piece of tubing on the carb linkage too, it opened it wide open

You'll have to trim that throttle lever also it'll hit the top cover when it on the saw .

It's got a 288XP high top cover. It didn't seem like it hit or had any interference, but I also wasn't "looking for it." I'll definitely take a much closer look at it to verify! Thank you for all the heads up and chiming in on the various topics with this saw. Not having had one, I'm learning every step of the way. Your input is greatly appreciated.

My kind of fix. Simple with parts on-hand.
