    This is a great example of the good thing's that surrounded pro wrestling at that time. Tony was very young in this video too.
    Thank you!

    Tony trained at a gym in Hamden, CT when he was in the WWF. Saw him flat bench 500 pounds. He was about 6'2.5" for those who are interested because of the exaggerated heights of wrestlers. His legs looked even worse in person. As an aside most of the WWF wrestlers of that time worked out in Hamden. Jesse Ventura mostly stood around and talked more than he lifted. Jesse was also about 6'2" tall. Good sized guy but not huge. Swede Hanson had the biggest wrists I ever saw on a human being. He was in the gym on a Sunday morning going thru the motions and said to me - "I need a beer".

      About five years ago, I watched Tony still bench 405 five times as if it were weightless. (I could barely bench press my body weight at my best.) I put 270 on one of those safety squat bars you can squat from the floor, which weighed 75 pounds, put a foam pad on the bar, lifted it on my forearms across my chest and walked it across the floor as part of my deadlift workout. He stopped to watch me as I showed what I could do well at 50+. I already had told him I could never do what he does so easily.

      I used to workout in a now defunct Gold’s gym and the wrestlers would workout there when in town to wrestle at Maple Leaf Gardens. I met many of them including Ventura, Steamboat, Studd, Mosca etc, etc. None of them blew me away in terms of their size or workouts. Ventura was trying to forge a career as a rock singer and his voice was trashed. This was sometime around when he was in that terrible sci-fi movie Abraxis.

    In 1979, a new pro wrestling publication hit newsstands and magazine racks across the nation. It was Pro Wrestling Illustrated. When the first issue went to press, Ken Patera was ranked at #4 in the National Wrestling Alliance and in the Most Hated Wrestler category. He and John Studd were also ranked at #4 in the Tag Team Division.

    Because he was a loose cannon that fit the heel role perfectly. Patera always seemed awkward as a babyface. He was much more suited to be a heel. A perfect example of his real life loose cannon persona would be the McDonalds incident in which he tossed a 30 pound boulder through a McDonalds window after being refused service. He then beat the shit out of several cops as they tried to arrest him. He spent 2 years in prison. Thats why he was the perfect heel, cuz he was also one in real life

Patera was arguably stronger than Alexeev as well. Alexeev was none the less a better Oly.Lifter than both without a doubt. Why? Superior technique, skill, balance, flexibility, practice, agility. Alexeev is a weightliting legend but not the strongest man in history!

      +kelamo It's probably because he has heat with WWE. Patera has had some not so nice things to say about Vince over the years including that he wears dresses at night. Plus, Patera blames Vince for getting convicted for the McDonalds thing, where as he got Jimmy Snuka off the hook with a murder charge.

    • @D2Kprime
      @D2Kprime 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlbanianMan As far as I know he doesn't blame Vince for him getting convicted. In fact, he said himself that Vince took care of his family while he was in prison. He does have heat with WWE however, but Patera is kind of a loose-cannon and the last thing they need to do is give him a live-microphone in this PC atmosphere.

    • @AlbanianMan
      @AlbanianMan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D2K Prime he holds a grudge against Vince because while he was sending checks to his family, it was also seen as a loan in which he had to pay Vince back with money that came out of his WWE salary. He is also part of that concussion lawsuit that was filed a little while back. But I think the main reason is like has been mentioned , He’s a loose cannon and they don’t want to give someone like that a live mic in WWE’s current PC atmosphere.

I've seen pictures of Patera back then and the height/mass ratio was pretty similar. He was a big block of a guy. But I wasn't comparing Patera to Henry in strength, I was talking about how he dropped his mass and altered his in-ring style.

I don't argue that Henry was necessarily stronger than him, but it's reasonable to say that if Henry would have trained and competed in strongman comps he could have been on the level of Savickas. And Henry's raw squat>Savickas eq squat + Henry's deadlift>Savickas deadlift. That's fact. So potential-wise H>S

    "not deep unlike kaz's." Kaz had good depth and walked the squats out, but Henry had absolutely good depth as well! There's no discussion whether the lifs were good! And again Kaz's best was 925lb squat in an early squat suit&wraps and Mark did 953 raw with wraps. Henry was the better squatter. Henry also deadlifted 903 and 887 in the same year. Kaz's all-time best was 886.sumthing!

  • @themetalgod21
    @themetalgod21 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As for the powerlifitng records they don't stand anymore and what federation did he do it in.The ipf is regarded as the most legitimate org.Don Reinhoudt holds the squat records in many people's eyes as i believe he used no wraps nor a belt.Bill kazmaier was the first to clean and press the thomas inch.But that's like a 5 pound dumbell today as the lifters are using 250 pound dumbells now.Ken did his records in the late 60's and early 70's don't you think henry should be way past them in the 90s

  • @yozkopf3000
    @yozkopf3000 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "and he benched over 600 as well."Reinhoudts best is 607. Henrys best is 585lb and he never trained it.There is absolutely no doubt that he would get in the 600lb range if he had stick to powerlifting and trained it. He has a 65 inch chest - A trained Henry at 30-35 years old would easily smoke that as well as squat a grand and deadlift in the 1000lb range. He squatted 1000 in training. His official deadlift is higher than Reinhoudt's as well.And Reinhoudt has the greatest raw total of all time.

      He is intelligent as he is a great storyteller and remembers details about everything and you can tell he thinks about things and presents it in order.
      However he is illiterate or to say it nicer not educated so his language and speech are simple and not proper and refined.
      I don't think Tony really cares either he's a down to earth simple country guy who likes to enjoy life.
      He had the best wrestling physique ever and probably had all the women he wanted.
      Tony knows he was done wrong but admits his responsibility for some of it but isn't bitter.
      That speaks a lot about his intelligence regardless of his education, diction and vocabulary.

    Look at the difference in size of Tony Atlas between 1978 and 1980. I think somebody introduced him to T, DD, and HGH during that time. He had to be 40 lbs. more muscular in 1980.

    • @trappenweisseguy27
      @trappenweisseguy27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt he was on various cocktails, but HGH back then was only available from cadavers and probably too pricey even for a wrestler.

    Ken looks absolutely TERRIBLE in this video. Normally, he looked like Mr. Universe. At his top level, Patera had the best body in wrestling, and one of the best bodies in the world.
