Her German Great-grandfather married a Mexican woman and settled in Tucson in the 1840s. Her mother was German, English, Dutch which makes her 1/16th Mexican on her father's side.

@@jollyrodgers7272 her paternal family lived for generations in Mexico. Like many countries, Mexico’s population was (and is) made up of immigrants and indigenous peoples. Why is any different where their roots were from before moving to Mexico? Is someone less Mexican heritage because their forefathers immigrated there from EU generations earlier? She grew up in Tucson and very much surrounded by Mexican music, in Spanish, the language her father sang in…

      No
      Voz, sentimiento, pronuncia perfecto
      Saludos

I'm about as white as one can get with my Scot / Irish ancestry, and I do love all kinds of music, including traditional Irish and Scottish music too, I love me some bagpipes, and so I wouldn't know why, but Mariachi music just resonates with my soul, I absolutely love it! And this song as sung by Linda Ronstadt hits me right in the feels, its beautiful to hear the full band and her singing. Fantastic! My wife and I were at Xcaret the park in Playe del Carman Mexico a few months ago, say what you will about tourist traps, but they have a theatre, and we caught the show, it was a great show with fantastic Mariachi music, it was so great for me I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved traveling around Mexico and seeing the random Mariachi groups you hear as you travel around. My wife doesn't understand my fascination with it, but I love it!

I was in Playa del Carmen about 30 years ago and it's absolutely the best vacation I've ever taken. Apart from all the beauty that surrounds you (crystal blue ocean, snow white beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, glorious tequila in open air pubs, etc), what I loved best was the local traditional music that greeted you almost everywhere. It is genuine, spontaneous, profound and heartfelt. So much more honest and rich than the music we get here. Just sublime stuff!

Oh my... Where to start with Linda? I guess by saying, without any reservation, that she is an American national treasure... And by saying so, is still an understatement.
She sings in Spanish as well. (Perfect Spanish) Her father was Mexican and the one who encouraged her in music from the start.
In the sixties , she was one of the first women singing Rock music (which then it was a male dominated genre). She was highly successful at it. ("You are no Good" is one of my favorites) She has also broken into other genres swimmingly making her extremely versatile.
She has had any achievement award you could think of (repeatedly).
My favorite songs by her are:
"Long Long Time", "Heat Wave", "Will you still Love me Tomorrow",
"Tracks of my Tears", "Just One Look" "Somewhere Out There" and a very famous duet with Aaron Neville, "I Don't Know Much" among many ..many others (These are the ones that immediately come to mind).
Being bilingual, I can also appreciate and value her Spanish songs and achievements.
My favorites in that 'Mariachi' department are:
"La Charreada", "Tú, Solo Tú" , "Volver, Volver", "Por un Amor " and "La Cigarra"
Thank you for bringing Linda back and for your reactions to music which I consider priceless. You are an impressive young man. Remain excellent... :)

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & opera. I have this cd of all her Spanish songs. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.

We've been deprived, by the illness that took Linda's wonderful voice. I have three great regrets concerning music, when I had the chance, I didn't go see (because of laziness) ...Frank Sinatra...Ray Charles....and....Linda Ronstadt. What an incredible voice, I soo especially like her recordings with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra, suberb, all of her music, absolutely suberb.
She is not a Spanish speaker, incredibly, she taught herself Spanish to honor her father and her grandfather (who sang to her in Spanish when she was young) and her Mexican heritage/ancestry.

This is a personal translation I just to the best of my abbilities:
    The Cicada.
    Stop singing to me, cicada
    let’s stop with your chiming
    because when you sing
it enters into my soul like a dagger.,
knowing that when you sing, you’re announcing your death.

    Oh, sailor, you sailor
let me know if you do know
    because I can’t see
    if in the deepest Ocean
there is something blacker than my sorrows…
    A little dove while flying
with her little chest bleeding and wounded
almost about to cry told me way much sadly
“I went tired to flook for
    a reciprocated love…”
Underneath the shade of a tree
    And while playing my guitar
    I want to die singing
    as the cicada dies...

I've only watched a few of your reactions so far, but I really like the ones I've seen. I love Linda Ronstadt's voice and her musical sensibilities! I would like to share another reaction idea with you that is also of a mariachi performance. The video is entitled "El pastor Arturo Vargas Mariachi Vargas En Vivo 2022" and you can find it on the channel "Omar Mora Mariachi". So, the group is called 'Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan' and I consider them the best mariachi band today. The lead singer is Arturo Vargas and the song is called "El Pastor". Mr Vargas has a vocal quality that is as smooth as butter. Probably the most remarkable aspects of his singing in this performance are his flawless falsetto and his insane breath control. I've seen other performances by this group of this song, but the particular version I'm recommending to you is a jaw dropper. It's hard enough to sing falsetto well and it's even harder to maintain a pure note while sustaining it, but maintain the purity of the note and have it remain even with no wavering for as long as HE sustains the note... well I've never seen anyone do it this well. The song is also beautiful, so that doesn't hurt. Anyway, this comment has gone on long enough, but I hope you get a chance to listen to this song and that you enjoy it as much as I do...every time I listen to it. Cheers!

Amazing reaction my friend Harri!!...I have seen your reactions to Dimash, the best male singer of the world (In my personal opinion)...Now I want to invite you to meet, who is considered like The 4th Element of All Time Vocal Trinity (with Whitney, Mariah and Celine) and one of the Best Female Singers of the World...The passion and dedication when Dimash is performing a song can only be compared with the person who has influenced him to sing leaving everything on stage: His idol, the queen, the incomparable, the Goddess: Lara Fabian...She is a lyric soprano with a amazing vocal range and incredible breath control...She speaks and composes in 5 languages and sings in more than 15 languages....That's why she is the inspiration for Dimash and several singers around the world...You can see covers of her songs on TH-cam made by singers of the stature of: Dimash, Diana Ankudinova, Polina Gagarina, Forestella, Julie Anne San Jose, Sissel Kyrkjebo, Floor Jansen, Diana Navarro, Giulia Falcone, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, Rimar, Katrina Velarde, Cakra Khan and others...Please react to her songs, all masterpieces, in LIVE versions, because Lara is more impressive when she sings live, so you can see why she is the idol of Dimash...Try to do it in this order and almost all songs are from the same Lara’s concert “From Lara With Love” in Montreal 1999, one of her best works: 1) Je Suis Malade (Singing in French)...2) Caruso (Singing in Italian)...3) Je T'AIME (2002 Live version in Paris Singing in French)...4) Perdere L'Amore (1999 Live version Singing in Italian)...5) Adagio (1999 Live version singing in english)...6) Broken Vow (1999 Live version singing in English)...7) You are Not From Here (1999 Live version singing in English)...8) Quédate (1999 Live version singing in Spanish)....9) Ti Amo Cosi (2019 Live version Singing a trío with Dimash and Aida Garifullina)....I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Lara...Here you have the link of her amazing performance of the song “Je Suis Malade”....th-cam.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/w-d-xo.html

This is the best non-english speaking selling album of all time! Over 10 million sold, and she is not fluent in speaking Spanish.

Despite being 1/16th Mexican, Linda didn't speak Spanish when rehearsing for this album, so had a steep learning curve - but absolutely nails it to the point you're sure she's fluent! You must see my favorite video of her in this genre, called "La Charreada". Yes, very demonstrative (accent 2nd syllable), and she has performed Live in every genre, including Opera.

Harri actually did a reaction to “La Charreada” quite awhile ago (also requested by me 😂) If you type in his name and the song title you will find it. 🌺

You have a very varied catalog. I appreciate the variety of artists you have covered. I have noticed you don’t seem to pick an artist and do a very deep dive into their works. I think you should look at Linkin Park. Their lead singer committed suicide 5 years ago, but his voice was truly one of a kind. You will hear “songs like an angel, screams like a demon” in every reaction you see to their work but every thing they have put out is truly worth a listen.

En México se extinguieron las voces como las de Linda, Años atrás solo hubo algunas como Lola Beltran y hasta Lucha Villa que tenian verdaderos pulmones!! Ahora las que se dicen cantantes no tienen la menor capacidad vocal de ellas!!

I like a lot of singers, but really, does anyone have a better vocal range than Linda Ronstadt? Pavarotti?

She is Mexican culture. Spanish is romantic language and flows more than english. Opera in English not as smooth.
