I have a Polestar. Thanks for the warning PSA. However, I learned my lesson about these key FOBs when my daughter lost her FOB to her Ford Focus. Even though the whole car was a piece of junk, Ford charged for a replacement FOB like it was for a Mercedes. 😮
I have a ‘21 M3 SR+. So I have the iPhone “key,” the Costco 😂 “key,” and the Apple Watch “key” -they are my entry ports to the vehicle. Sweet. This story reminds me of our 2011 Camry, now long gone. Bought used from Hertz. One key only, which had a physical old style key plus a fob that had buttons to lock/unlock doors and trunk and sound alarm. That fob got dropped and broke. Taped, it kept working for another couple years. Then not working. Went to Toyota, and they said over $300.00 to get it replaced. So we reverted to simple physical key. Me? I love my Tesla keys! And if I ever need another Costco “key” for it, it’s cheap! My wife has a VW ID.4 PRO. Baby Jesus help us if we need that fob replaced!!!! 😢 Great video Max. You guys knock it outta the park!
If you get a Tesla the $175 fob accessory is well worth buying. It's free and easy to code it to your car yourself, and it's easy to change the battery... which is good because you'll need to change it at least once a year
I got an aftermarket ring key which works great as a backup to my phone key. Small, robust, no battery, and much less expensive. Of course your Wh/mile may vary.
I just asked the key fob for my polestar2 in service center. They charge almost 1000 for replacement. Its really expensive amf it doesn't make sense to me.
Do you have to go to a Polestar only service shop? They make you think Volvo dealers in SoCal do not support these cars, and for San Diego, for example, closest is LA? Weird that they ruined their chance to utilize all Volvo dealerships as service centers, if that's what's happened.
I have relied on Batteries, Bulbs + and other 3rd parties for replacement fobs. I refuse to give a dealer that kind of money for a "key". I'm going. to see what the 3rd party options tghat are available for my next car before purchasing.
Unfortunately BPB doesn't offer Volvo or PoleStar key replacements but you could always reach out to a automotive locksmith to see who has the software or tools.

That's a pretty crazy price and process for a fob that looks like it will break from a fall in the ground.
The sports key was delivered with my 2021 polestar2.And two sets of the regular keyfob.

I have been quoted over £450 for a spare key fob for a 2006 Volvo V70. How on earth can the price be so sky-high?

I take my Polestar to Galpin Volvo in LA. So yes, Volvo dealers do service Polestars. I don’t know if that is true for all Volvo dealers though.

Polestar 3 will come with key cards like Tesla! Maybe Polestar 2 will get them in the future.
Polestarc charged me $400 to reprogram them to my car. Insane.
For my old Model S (nosecones rule!) it costs $193.50 pre-tax on April 2023 to replace a key, and it was done via mobile service.
The Polestar key looks like a joke.
This is common for most OEMs. Fobs are $350-800.
