    Its me who posted that issue. After it gone viral. KIA Service Manager in our area called and arranged a meeting with their technicians. They took time and explained what to do to avoid this heating issue.
    1) Make sure to put the gear in Neutral whenever possible in stop and go traffic like jam packed areas and traffic signals which will reduce the stress on the transmission.
    2) Don't stop and go with half pressed brakes which will put more pressure on transmission in b2b traffic scenario
    3) Dont use the "ECO" mode in city traffic. Use "Normal" in day 2 day driving conditions (This one is not mentioned by service guys, but someone in Team-bhp)
    I am yet to test these tips in coming days whenever possible.

      I think kia should make a eco system like audi..car automatically turns off and when u give throttle engine automatically gets in to life..so u dont have to put brake all the time while u r in traffic

      Can we drive in manual mode available in first gear? Instead of auto, when in traffic? Can it help avoiding engaging duel clutch?

    • @sahithvideos
      @sahithvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ashishbhade342 No idea, but i was suggested by KIA technicians, that you should always try to put the gear in Neutral whenever possible like at jam packed areas and traffic signals, that will help the transmission a lot. And dont drive with half pressed brakes. You should either use the brakes or loose them fully.

      Sahith, I have GTX+ DCT as well.. I have faced same problem , and I have sent detailed mail to KIA.
      So you think the points thst u hv shared that will solve problem.. have u imagined what if u r on bridge inclining and there traffic jam b2b.
      Or If you are on hilly region, then.. I am sure that Hill hold feature will generate more Heat to transmission ... while continuously using neutral, Drive mode , and then brake in a traffic jam situation.
      I have experienced Transmission heating to TOP in 6 to 7 minutes and display asked me to stop my seltos... Why audi or some other brand who give DCT has not faced problem.. KIA has surely compromised on quality of DCT. I think much more needs to be done from KIA. instead of giving stupid tips and tricks to drive an AUTOMATIC VEHICLE. The whole purpose is defeated of automatic transmission either DCT , CVT, ICT or any...

    When people buy automatic to have hassle free drive in traffic what make sense of having temp issue

    • @BhaskarDeva
      @BhaskarDeva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I find most people buy automatic cars expecting them to be nothing short of self driven cars. There is nothing normal about the traffic in India. Which is why, a CVT is probably better it one expects to drive mostly in traffic with never having to shift back to Neutral at a hault.

      @@BhaskarDeva hi can you please tell me why one doesn't have to shift back to neutral in a cvt at halt?

    • @BhaskarDeva
      @BhaskarDeva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@_arsalan Each automatic gearbox works differently. In case of CVT or even iVT (as.hyundai calls it) - they don't employ a clutch. A constantly variable transmission is belt driven between two drums which can vary their diameter to offer infinite gear ratios. On the contrary , a DCT employs 2 clutches.

      The question is: even after having years of market, traffic & weather experience of India by Hyundai, on what recommendations & possibilities did they launch a DRY clutch DCT system for India? WET type could have solved these heating issues far better than the other one. Even increasing engine, gearbox & transmission life.

    • @BhaskarDeva
      @BhaskarDeva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@satya4gogoi Agreed - wet type DCT is common across expensive cars. I suspect that the cost of repairs & rebuilds on wet type is the reason why Hyundai/Kia moved to dry clutch DCT builds. In a wet type - transmission fluid needs to be drained out each time a repair is needed (since the entire drive-train is submersed).

    Many companies (eg Ford) brought Dual clutch transmission in the market then discontinued, it is not an easy gearbox, companies like VW, Audi, Merc etc, even they face some issues some times... Companies should try & test it first before they launch rather than providing faulty cars to their customers. Still companies like Hyundai, Kia they need to research further about it & then launch rather than discontinuing all of a sudden. Then customers will suffer when they will visit a service centre.
    Being a long term user of DSG gearbox(skoda rapid style plus & octavia vrs) I know it is one of the costliest & high maintenance gearbox in the car industry right now.
    Please all car buyers, if u really want to go for dual clutch transmission, then buy German, otherwise go for other gearboxes available in the market.
    Thank u😊😊

      I'm using the Venue DCT in Bangalore and i face no problems. Every automatic gearbox is engineered differently. One just needs to learn and understand how to use it and extract the best out of it. If one expects to never have to shift to Neutral and keep waiting long with their foot on the break - a CVT is probably the best option. But then should not complain about the spongy rubber band effect. I also own a Honda City automatic so i live with both CVT and DCT

    • @ShaleenVashisht

    • @BhaskarDeva
      @BhaskarDeva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ShaleenVashisht Well I meant no disrespect bro. We own both Seltos and venue in DCT variant at our home. I also own a bike with a 998cc engine with makes a good 50bhp more than what the 1.4 Seltos makes - happily does 100 in less then 3 seconds vs the 10 sec which the seltos takes. But thats not the point, both Kia & Hyundai employ the same 7 speed DCT dry clutch gearbox on their cars worldwide. Even the GDi tech used is the same. Irrespective of the power they put out. In fact - this is probably the first time KIA is trying out the DCT route. They are better known for the 6-speed sportmatic gearboxes. And their larger 1.6L GDi & 2.0L GDi engines are more popular across Europe & US which makes far more power. Globally the Seltos comes with the base 1.6L GDi - India gets the lower variant to avail tax benefits.

    According to me dct technology is really good for most of the part as it provides smooth and fast gearshifts and hassle free driving but when it comes to the cars of this price range the dct transmission is just too advanced and hard to get mastered at a budget. Another problem is its dry nature so I think these manufacturers for now should stick with torque converter autos as they are free of these issues and also cost effective. The Hyundai’s 6 speed auto is one of the best smooth and quick shifting transmissions in the market and good for most people. So I think manufacturers should stick with that only till they master dct technology at a cheaper price and without any issues☺️

      @@thesunalwaysshine..3929 That's not really an issue. The clutch will be disengaged automatically when you stop the car. You don't need to shift to N. When you keep moving forward slowly for a long time, the clutch is never fully engaged and it will continue to produce heat. There won't be enough time to stop in some situations. You'll just have to keep moving slowly. That's when the problem arises. Same is the case with AMT. But most cars don't have a temperature warning like this. You'll only know when something goes wrong.

Even if you have a manual and you keep pressing half clutch in bumper to bumper traffic with little pressure on accelerator in 1st gear . it will lead to over heating too. and wear & tear of clutch plate will be more. it's more of a driving sense i think. only rule to follow in all automatic engines = When the car is still in traffic, put on the neutral or the Parking else keep driving. DCT is more advance than regular AMT . so go ahead with your GTX Plus DCT its a good choice.

      i dont think there should be any problem with IVT that like DCT. both the transmission are totally different. CVT and IVT are technically on same principles. CVT - Belt type and IVT works with chain (i may not be 100 % correct) . But the features you will not get as you get in GTX + Petrol/Diesal DCT. you will need to compromise to BOSE Speaker system, 360 deg camera, ventilated seats and ect. BUT you save money a good amount.

      Who came up with the "You can't drive more than 100 kms" idea. 😂 That's stupid. You definitely can drive as long as you want. But crawling in traffic for 1 hour will definitely overheat the DCT. The clutch can't engage completely in that case. If you move continuously like that, the clutch will continue producing heat. It's not really a fault. AMT cars also have a dry clutch and same thing will happen. But how many of those cars have a transmission temperature display. ? You'll only know when something breaks. Having a warning is not a bad thing. A temperature warning doesn't mean the transmission is delicate. You can rip it. Drive hard and fast and it's not at all a problem. That's what the DCT is made for. But when crawling for 1 hour, you're just half clutching it the whole time.

  • @arundotiiird
    @arundotiiird 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Why this happens in DSG/DCT in bumper to bumper traffic? What happens in creap-mode which creates this issue?
    This (the overheating issue) is due to the clutch engage and disengage continuously.
    In drive ('D') mode, your transmission try to achieve the most economical gear state as quickly as it can. That is to reach higher gears as fast as it can.
    In a bumper to bumper traffic, when you lift off from break, it will start in 1st gear and quickly shifts to gear 2. Now the mechatronic unit (the computer/brain part of this DSG/DCT system, which analyse the driving pattern and selects the next gear to be engaged) is trying to shift to 3rd, the next higher, gear. But now (due to the traffic) you have applied the brake and the system has to quickly disengage 2nd gear and shift back to 1st. There is lot of friction generated (especially in a dry clutch scenario) when you go back and forth from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st very frequently. More often, there can be many partial clutch engagement / disengagement (in manual world, we call it partial / half clutch) situations, which is bad for any transmission in all scenarios.
    Do you know DSG has an upshift time of 8 millisecond? Yes 8 millisecond (and this number varies ( + / - ) on how advanced your DCT/DSG gearbox is).
    Now think of those physical fly-wheels engaging and disengaging in 0.008 second for an hour (in this case). The system will overheat.
    So what are the SOLUTIONs.
    1a. Put your transmission in pure MANUAL ('M') mode (not the temporary manual mode using tiptronic padle-shifters under your steering wheel)
    OR
    1b. Put transmission into SPORTS ('S') mode.
    Why?
    In pure manual mode, up-shift happens when YOU decide. So it will never shift to 2nd gear automatically (while you creep).
    Similarly in Sports mode, your 2nd gear will be selected only after a certain RPM (not very soon).
    2. In Drive ('D') mode when you stop, always press firmly on break, so that your vehicle won't crawl. It should come to a complete stand still. Your gears will be completely disengaged when you apply a full break.
    3. Put your car into Neutral ('N') mode when you are in a long wait. For short waits, you don't have to (put in 'N'), just apply brakes firmly so that you vehicle won't crawl. As I said, your gears will be disengaged completely. Take a look: th-cam.com/video/9xcyOJHUGk0/w-d-xo.html
    PS: If you are 'N' then put back to 'D' mode at least 5 (to 10) seconds prior to move. But don't worry, this will automatically happen if you follow the below 4th rule.
    4. Always (and always) make sure the vehicle in-front of you, moves some distance and then only move forward. This will make sure you have enough room/space to completely leave your brake and (if needed to be stopped) apply it back very gently. Don't (and never) try to crawl inch-by-inch behind the front vehicle as and when the traffic moves.
    5. Another very important point (not related to traffic) is the MAINTENANCE. You need to do/provide regular, on-time maintenance and check-ups for this guy.
    PS: many of the above points are valid to all the transmissions. The only thing is that, previously we never cared as long as the transmission withstood our abuses and suddenly, for the same abuse, DSG/DCT started complaining.
    To conclude, DSG / DCT is a marvelous technology which has high potential and leaves you with a driving experience like no other. Remember this is a technology for race cars, where road conditions are totally different. Different manufacturers have now mellowed it down for general purposes. In modern times (when compared to the very early days) we are less pron to sudden/complete failures (until and unless you ignore all the warning signs). Once you make some changes to your driving style the DSG/DCT should be butter smooth and stays for a very long duration.

    Torque converter automatic is better for traffic driving as there is no clutch and is a maintenance free system no matter how much you creep in the car's lifetime. DCT has many parts. The clutches need replacement every once in a while. And it has many electronic components which if they fail are expensive to replace. Less moving + mating parts = less headache

      DCT is not at all designed for traffic or slowly moving forward. It's a sporty and fast transmission. Why do you think VW's DCT had problems. It's because people don't know what they're buying. A dry clutch will overheat when it can't be fully engaged and continue rubbing each other for a long time. It's not a fault. It's just a warning. AMT will have the same problem, but most of those AMT cars don't even have a warning. You'll only know when something breaks.

      @ArunArun-rv5bn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abhishekmalakar1 If that 30-40km is all inside city and includes heavy stop and go traffic, go with the diesel AT. Not because of the diesel engine or fuel expenses, just because of the transmission. Diesel AT won't be much more economical than the petrol DCT as the ARAI mileage is just 18 km/l. The 6 speed auto performs really good in the city. It's only when you go for an overtake at higher speeds, it lacks that direct feel. But in the city, the torque converter auto is perfect. But if you don't have regular bumper to bumper traffic, petrol DCT is the right choice as it has more performance and better performing gearbox when overtaking, driving fast etc.

    • @abhishekmalakar1
      @abhishekmalakar1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So In the automatic Diesel to increase performance we can shift to the manual mode when we drive on the highway will that help ?? And also kia comes with BS6, will there be a problem if we used BS4 Diesel fuel as BS6 fuel is only be available from April

    • @ArunArun-rv5bn
      @ArunArun-rv5bn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abhishekmalakar1 The gearbox itself is not slow in terms of shift time. It's really seemless in shifts. But since there's only one D mode, you'll have to get used to the car and modulate the throttle input to get it to shift as you want. Sometimes it shifts down too aggressively and sometimes it doesn't. But it can be ok after getting used to the behavior of the gearbox. And manual mode will certainly help to shift exactly like you want. The main difference I felt compared to a dct is that it holds the gear longer even on light inputs while DCT just breezes through gears faster.
      And BS4 fuel technically will have some bad effects on the car. It's not the engine, the exhaust system is the one that will have to work harder when using BS4 fuel in a BS6 car. But it shouldn't be a big issue if it's just for some months. From what I've read, using BS6 fuel in BS4 cars is more of a problem as BS6 diesel don't have the lubrication properties of BS4 diesel.

    Hi
    The statement you have does not make sense at all. I do agree on the creep part that if car is idle it's better to keep the gear in neutral. If it's specific for buyers who don't drive much kms, then DCT technology is useless. Any automatic transmission is for ease of use in traffic or highway no matter how much is the running of vehicle.

    It's true the Seltos owner had a problem with his DCT AT ,,, but it's neither his fault nor the an actual problem with the vehicle.
    We in India are just being introduced to automatic transmission vehicles ,, they are becoming a necessity due to heavy traffic. Being newly introduced to it, two things need to be considered by auto vehicle manufacturers -
    A. Educate those new drivers switching from manual transmission to automatic about the AT system and driving technic and
    B. Build cars and transmissions to suit the Indian road, traffic and driving conditions / style
