  • This is my first video after beginning hand engraving class with Ray Cover. I am practicing the western scroll section of the plate. The plate was designed by Ray to demonstrate the basic skills of hand engraving. I am using a Lindsey Classic handpiece with the Ray Cover Standard 90 degree graver.

Your filming was so great! I am curious what type of camera and equipment are you using? Trinocular microscopes are so expensive.

I’m using a small video camera attached to my scope.

Beautiful work! I'm from Brazil, here we don't have much of this work, except for jewelry. I would like to know what material you are using in the video and what are the best materials to start with

Thank you for the compliment! For practice I like to use mild steel. I recent fount 1008 alloy and really loved cutting that for practice.

It is a pneumatic engraver made by Steve Lindsay. It’s the foot controlled Lindsay Classic.

I do leather tooling, what you're doing looks really difficult.

I admire leather tooling! Hand engraving is similar in design. It takes a lot of study and practice.
