Western Scroll Hand Engraving

This is my first video after beginning hand engraving class with Ray Cover. I am practicing the western scroll section of the plate. The plate was designed by Ray to demonstrate the basic skills of hand engraving. I am using a Lindsey Classic handpiece with the Ray Cover Standard 90 degree graver.

Your filming was so great! I am curious what type of camera and equipment are you using? Trinocular microscopes are so expensive.

Beautiful work! I'm from Brazil, here we don't have much of this work, except for jewelry. I would like to know what material you are using in the video and what are the best materials to start with

Thank you for the compliment! For practice I like to use mild steel. I recent fount 1008 alloy and really loved cutting that for practice.

It is a pneumatic engraver made by Steve Lindsay. It’s the foot controlled Lindsay Classic.

It’s an engravers ball vise. GRS has a wide selection of them.

I do leather tooling, what you're doing looks really difficult.

I admire leather tooling! Hand engraving is similar in design. It takes a lot of study and practice.
