    So thankful this was filmed! Since discovering Ms Argerich a few days ago (yes, even though a lover of all music I apparently have been living under a rock), I have been bingeing on her videos and keep coming back to this one. I must have my daily fix. It's fun watching other greats play this magnificent piece, but can't help but favoring Martha. God bless her and so thankful she is still with us and playing. She is a gift.

    This is my favorite Argerich piece. The pace is like a train but with a beautiful melody. It looks like so much fun to play. I may learn this piece, but it will not be near what Argerich can do.

    Horowitz made his friends listen to a recording of Prokofiev toccata Op 11 saying that he was playing, after that he wrote a letter to Martha Argerich saying that and congratulating for the beautiful interpretation.
    but actually Horowitz didn't play his recording of Prokofiev toccata but he played Martha's.

      So I thought that question was very interesting and went ahead and listened t to Wang. Wang has a tighter sound, but very similar tempo, more sharp accents whilst argerich has a deeper and more relaxed sound. Wangs interpretation is more vertical meaning it's note after note without making melodic connections between some accents whilst argerich has a more polyphonic approach, meaning she makes some sens of certain accents. Both seem excellent performances to me thought I prefer Argerichts interpretation as I find it more dramatic and mature. I also feel like Argericht's interpretation has a broader spectrum in nuances, meaning the distance between the loudest forte and the quietest piano is greater. Argerich uses more pedal as well I believe which some might dislike.

    • @daniellerner1988
      @daniellerner1988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I was also comparing the two versions. They seem very different to me, at least to me. Y. Wang does it faster, more "staccato" ... and it's a perfect playing machine but a little more mechanical. M. Argerich introduces more humanity in his reading. He highlights hidden melodies, makes more "rallentando"' ... Ultimately it is about subtleties.

    • @daniele8716
      @daniele8716 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daniellerner1988 Compared to Richter or Horowitz, they seem both exhibitionist and childish versions. Played more with fingers than with brains. The devilish, demonic Prokofiev served as an idiot-savant exercise full of aplomb, with no hint of faustian grandeur and torment. I do not think they understand what this music is about. But technically speaking both Argherich and Wang are amazing. Should we really care about that?
