You are so right. I have good young adult children but I still tell them to make sure your paper work is up to date and all safety equipment lights are working. Because you don't want to risk being stopped you never know when a bad one will be the one who stops you. And be cooperative most of all.

Police often say "We only catch the dumb ones". As a teenager, I started getting stopped by the police as soon as I got my first tatty old Italian sports car, go figure. There's a process, and you do the process to minimise the consequences for you, whether you enjoy it or not, because that gets the best outcome for you. In over 40 years of driving, I've paid less than $200 total in fines (call it $500 in today's money), that's it, and I've had plenty of fun. It's sad to see that he is behaving like a child and making bad decisions, and that likely comes down to upbringing and never learning how to deal with authority, believing he could always cry his way out of it. Whether you like it or not, society requires that kids in cars have certain protections, and one should be able to understand that and adapt to the reality of it. You might even want kids to have those protections. If you are driving while revoked, it probably makes sense to wear a seat belt yourself. Lots of bad decisions, unfortunately.

You can explain ALL that to the judge, show them your school acceptance, show them you're cleaning your life up and this was a minor mistake. But when you have a full blown tantrum, resist, scream, slam your head into the car, much less in front of your children... you won't get "grace" in that situation, you'll get more charges and make the police's job harder/more dangerous.

These factors are compounding and in all honesty, what we all just saw wasn't a man crying because he got caught and is refusing to take responsibility, I believe we saw someone who is actively trying to improve their life and turn things around but has no trust in the system and has no other choices left. We didn't see someone violently resisting arrest, we saw someone having a mental breakdown because he has no options or control of his life. We don't need to forgive his actions, but we could all do with practicing some empathy and understanding that people in these situations aren't inherently bad. Our system is designed to keep people down, not to help people get on their feet, and this guy knows it.

I spent my whole childhood not in a car seat unless I was an infant, so things are just more expensive now due to requiring kids under a certain height or weight to be in a big baby seat. WI law "Children must be in a car seat until they reach age 4 and 40 pounds, and in a booster seat until they reach age 8, more than 80 pounds in weight, or more than 4 ft. 9 in. tall." Wow what a big grown man he is. He’s acting like a spoiled child. He’s showing his kids how to be responsible and accountable for your actions. He should realize that his children are watching and that is how they learn how to interact with authority. When you’re wrong and you’re caught accept your punishment like an adult and move on from there. We all make mistakes, but you learn from them and move on with your life. I wouldn’t want this man child to be the head of my household. It seems like all the women in his life are taking up for him and accept this as normal behavior. I feel sorry for the children. I hope after this experience he changes his ways, but I doubt that he will. He’ll keep doing what he wants to, until he gets caught again.
