One of the appealing things about the 400D is its simplicity. The shooting experience (no live view etc) is a bit like what people are looking for when they return to shooting film.
I’m just getting into photography and I’ve been messing around with my parents’ old 400D and they let me keep it. This inspired me a lot to save money and work with what I have, thank you and great shots!
That's great to hear. My advice would be to put the money you saved into a nice lens like the 50mm 1.8 so you can get nice shots at night too👍 Thanks very much for watching 🖖😁
That's not a lens I've ever used though I suspect it'll be fine as a longer zoom option. The only lens I have in a similar range is the Sigma 70-300mm. Thanks for watching 🖖
You can shoot in b&w and sepia in the settings and there are options to use different built filter settings, ie red, orange, blue and yellow. These will enhance your pics without carrying around filters. Great work 👏
Oh I always prefer to shoot raw and apply effects in post, that way I have the most flexibility no matter what I choose to do with the images. Only filters I ever use are polarisers unless I'm doing long exposures. Thanks for watching 🖖
100%....great point about not needing the latest and greatest camera. Loved the daytime look around David. I think my fav shot of the whole video was the gentleman with the cane crossing the road at 5:28. It was almost like he stopped, or slowed down real quick for you to take the shot. Personally, I think I like the nighttime street photos better but I like the daylight look around with the videos. Either way, keep em coming! Hope you are doing well and having a great week!
Thanks, Paul. I love the night shoots and I've got a few more coming, but I wasn't sure how this would hold up at night with a max aperture of f3.5 and a max iso of 1600😂 Take care out there, mate👍
I just happened to come across your TH-cam and I immediately subbed. I have Canon 80D and EF-S 18-55mm IS STM. Despite your old camera you manage to make it beautiful. Insane ❤❤❤🎉🎉
This is SUPER helpful I found one of these on marketplace for really cheap and I really want to know what I’m getting into, and this is exactly what I was looking for! I love the photos!
Another enjoyable vlog David. You got some decent high contrast images, my fav was at 8:40 with its interesting geometry and patterns. thanks for sharing !
Thanks for doing these. I just started to shoot again with my 400D and Sigma Macro Lens. These revists using the old camera have been such an inspiration.
Really appreciate that. I've just finished editing a new video for Wednesday using just the 400d and a 50mm and it was a ton of fun. Thanks for watching, Matthew 🖖
For sure. Looks like you have some others I'm going to check out too. I've been getting out of shape as I have gotten older, so been hitting the trails and taking the camera to speed up time more instead of walking just "to exercise". Been working on keeping my lens fully open at 2.8 and adjusting shutter speed and iso as needed to get the shots I'm aiming for. Also starting to learn when I need another lens with more reach to sneak up on random animals as I encounter them. They hard to get with a macro lens. They kept running away from me when trying to sneak on them. The one thing great with all of the new gear coming out is that you can still get good quality EF lenses for very affordable prices now. I got my eye on an Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM for under 1000 bucks I'm going to try to pick up to use for getting those animals I missed and also for shooting football. This camera old as heck, but still was able to get some shots I'm proud of. Keep it rockin!
i really enjoyed watching your video but it makes me more confused because i used to take photos with phone and i love photography and this will be the first cam i will buy despite the small amount of money i have that allows me to buy the canon 400d or nikon d90 (or canon 500d maybe) ; so what should i choose ?
Hello, I liked your video, it is impressive to see that with an old camera you can still take very good photos, I would like to get started in this world, my budget is limited, do you think that the xt 350d is a good option or is it worth saving a little? more money and get the xti 400d?
It’s less about the camera and more about your ability and lens choice. Across my channel I have used all kinds of cameras and made them work, but that’s mostly because of 15 years of experience. The 350 isn’t much different to the 400d so I expect the image capabilities would be very similar. I think the 350d and a little work developing your skills will be perfect to get you started. These cameras are a lot of fun but very basic so be patient. Thanks for watching 🖖
Absolutely, it's very basic with no fancy features, but it takes gorgeous stills and will give you more flexibility than a phone. As a bonus, the 400d is very inexpensive! Thanks for watching, have an awesome day 🖖
Haha, I use whatever works, but I won't lie, I do like the look of the A7iv. I was very happy with what I was able to get with my dad's old Canon though😁👍

I'm making the same thing, and take a 50mm 1.8 with this camera it's awesome
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Hi can I ask if the 55-250mm canon lens works good as well? Thanks!

Same !
i might be getting one of these for christmas!! im so excited, im even selling some of my things to save up
Perfect vibe David! Just sold my A7R with 1.8/85 for the 400d with 1.8/50ii again. That was crazy. I feel free now.

I do love the older cameras🖖😁

It's an absolute gem of a camera. I bought a battery grip for mine for £5 to make it more comfortable and it's great. Thanks for watching 🖖

Thanks, Peter. I love the pockets of light and waiting for a subject to pass through it. Thanks for watching, mate 🖖
⚜ More video about this gear, i have bought one of this candy, good job man, hugs from Brazil.
I love the 400d so there’s definitely more videos coming in 2024🖖😁

It doesn’t matter which you choose. They’re comparable cameras and both systems have an amazing lens selection.
Thanks for watching🖖
Again a great video!! Keep up the excellent work! I'm looking
forward to another awesome upload! Take care and stay in touch! 🌻😍🌻
Thanks very much. Really appreciate it. Have an awesome weekend 🖖😁

Very kind of you. Have a great day 🖖
Great shots as always!!!
Appreciate it, Alex. Take it easy, mate 🖖😁
Nice shot.
Thank you 👍
What mode are you using?
Manual pretty much always🖖
I dont speak english is a good camera for beegnirners? Im poor and this camera is the option that i will buy :(
It's a great camera to get started with. I have another video with this camera too if you want to see more picture examples 👍
is it good as a first camera?
Absolutely, it's very basic with no fancy features, but it takes gorgeous stills and will give you more flexibility than a phone. As a bonus, the 400d is very inexpensive!
Thanks for watching, have an awesome day 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial thanks you!! i buy a 450 btw
can you shoot videos with that camera?
No, the 400d has no video. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 500d was the first of these rebels to shoot video at 1080p. Thanks for watching 🖖
Picking this up tomorrow mint condition for $70 bucks. Just the body. Gonna get a 50mm 1.8 for it.
The images from the 400d are so nice considering how old and basic it is. Hope you have a lot of fun with it, Fred. Thanks for watching 🖖
How did you edit those photos?
Most of them were edited using my free presets in lightroom classic as a base and adjusted from there based on what I felt the image needed🖖
Hi David! Just curious, were any of these photos edited in Lightroom or anything like that? Thank you and fantastic job once again!
I always shoot raw if the camera is able to, so everything is edited to some degree even if it's just to add back some contrast🖖
Love these Images, so i take it you wont be buying the new sony? hehe
