    It’s really his terrible free throw percentage that’s his largest flaw towards winning championships. Terrible free throw shooting is fatal for a perimeter primary ball handler in the 4th quarter of close games. If he could hit 75% of his free throws, he could retain a lot of his offensive value in the 4th quarter of close games.
    Right now though, you can’t put the ball in his hands at the end of close games because that’s an easy and obvious foul to make. And he will miss a huge percentage of those free throws. So that’s where Ben Simmons’s value drops in crunch time of close games because he can’t hit free throws. You just can’t be a primary ball handler on a championship team at the end of close games if you are only hitting 57% of your free throws.

    • @chrisnealson

    • @Wabbajaxe
      @Wabbajaxe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Actually, Tristan Thompson used to shoot free throws with his left. They fixed him to shoot with the right and it improved his free throw shooting. If the team and Ben is willing to work on his jumper during the offseason, I believe they can teach him how to shoot jumpers with his right hand. It seems like he always prefers to twist to the right when he shoots it, but because he shoots it with the left, the flow of his release becomes awkward.

    Great vid! What I dont think we talk enough about it how the limitations in his game stall the rest of the team. When the Raptors beat Sixers in 2019 Simmons was so ineffective that Embiid and Jimmy were playing 4 on 5. We could double and trap at will and he disappeared as an efective cutter because the lane was congested. He is an incredible defender when he wants to be but he makes any team supremely beatable in the later rounds of the playoffs when weaknesses are spotlighted.

      icky micky A pick and roll is when usually the big man comes up from the post (underneath the basket, usually just outside the lane on either side) and sets a screen(pick) for the ball handler. The defenders switch and the big man uses his body to shield the smaller defender and pivot(roll) towards the basket. Pick and rolls cause mismatches, and general confusion on defense. The ball handler has to read whether or not he has to take his man to the basket or dish it to the rolling big man. Pick and rolls are a simple but effective play.

      @@fury_021 That's a nonsense take. He was legitimately a great player in the regular season that year and he was able to hide his obvious significant flaws. Now he's just scared to even drive when that's all he was good for on offence.

    Because he can dive, he doesn't need a 2 point jumper. If his dive is unsuccessful, he have the IQ and vision to pass it to the right guy. He needs to train on his boxing out and active hands though.
    Since he dive so often, he will get foul a lot, so free throw skills is a must. Adding the ability to score 3 pointers will make him a true all star.

    Another stretch of the video. The question is not, does he needs a jumper, but does his team need his jumper, and the answer is yes, with Embiid, not so much if all other players are shooters on the floor (without Embiid). He will not win a championship as a starting point guard without a jump shot. Sorry.

    Simmons can be effective without a J. The real problem with his janky shot is at the free throw line. Come playoff time we’re going to be seeing a lot of hack-a-Simmons in close games, and it won’t matter how effective you are if you can’t stay on the court in closing time.

      ben is putting up those kind of numbers... all without a shot which is an obvious fault. and all the haters can do is say "iF OnLy hE hAd A sHoT".
      that statement just solidifies ben's absolutely ridiculous skill set and potential. haters will use the sixers' first n only playoff appearance with ben/embiid era as their definitive "proof" when in reality that is literally the smallest sample size for analyzing and dumb af. this is his 2nd year and has so much more time to grow, and he will grow.

      @@calebpagan2226 I disagree, he’s been in the NBA since 2016 and his offensive game hasn’t improved at all. At LSU, he shot >90% of his shots with his Right hand, while claiming to be Left handed. And in 2021, he still doesn’t know how to make a Left handed layup and his jumper has somehow gotten even worse. When he was drafted #1 overall I was already saying this was a big mistake as the dude was shooting with the wrong hand and was never going to be a great player due to a lack of a jumper and work ethic. Philly should have taken Brandon Ingram or Jaylen Brown

    • @calebpagan2226

    • @kchen2884
      @kchen2884 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@calebpagan2226 Big men have always been able to dominate without a jumpshot. And it was easier for guards to dominate in previous eras without a great jumpshot. In today’s era, it’s hard to find a great guard that can’t shoot. Im not asking for Ben to develop a lethal 3 point shot, all he needs is a respectable mid range shot and to improve his FT’s. That would make him unstoppable.
