I’m glad you made this video so others can see that Lowry brings more to the table than scoring. He’s not even a scorer, he’s said numerous times that he’s stepped down to be more of a facilitator for the uprising of Siakam and Vanvleet.

One of Lowry's most endearing qualities to us Raptors fans is that he plays basketball like a hockey player. He will be that physical little bulldog that simply makes your life a nightmare to make up for not being the most skilled player out there.
Basketball players could really learn from hockey players. The best to ever be like that was Rodman. He just wanted that ball more than anyone did and he was happy to give it up to someone else. Hockey is so fun because its such a struggle for control of the puck, and basketball can absolutely be more like that if players aren't all about scoring, which so many seem to be.

He's so genuinely fun to watch. An absolute nerd on the court. He's not light on his feet and lacks height, but Lowry is a winner and has correlated with several years of consecutive playoff runs and excellent reg season records in Toronto. We love the guy despite his limitations, he just makes you feel at ease when on the court.

You forgot to mention Lowry has been a top 10 player in Real Plus Minus for several years now. The dude is just a winner that makes his team better, even if he doesn't look flashy doing it.

Lowry in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi's in 2016 against the Heat he had 35 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds, leading the Raptors to the conference finals. In the conference finals against the Cavaliers he led the Raptors to two wins, scoring 35 points again, in both. Lowry actually shot very well in the 2017 and 2018 playoffs. His only awful playoff run was in 2015 where he was visibly hurt. Learn the fucking facts before you talk out of your ass, because you don't know shit.

Honestly, some of the blame has to be put on him since if he just made the free throws they would've won but he was +11 on the court when basically the whole raptors roster was a minus. Im usually not high on +/- but when you have 0 points 7 assists and +11 when all your teammates are negative thats saying something.
I'm surprised that you noticed Lowry's ability (his strength) to guard and box out bigger and taller players when switched onto them, casual fans, U.S. commentators, and even some basketball TH-camrs never notice it. Having been a avid Raptors fan for a while, I'm so happy that at least someone (apart from us REAL Raps fans) can appreciate all the little things KLow brings to the court and how integral he is to the team!

Agree. Bigger players thought they could post up against Lowry on a switch.. lol The only person who can easily score over Lowry is Klay Thompson. He just basically turns around and shoot knowing that Lowry won't be able to block him. But for most post players (power forwards and centres), they could barely get passed Lowry's stout frame.. lol

That tells you why he is still valuable to the team even if he cant score. Unlike DeRozan, when he can't score he is a straight up liability. I am not huge on +/- but if you whole team is negative or barely a + and you are fucking +11 that's saying something.

This is a great analysis on modern day Kyle Lowry. But some also forget that from about 2014-17 he was also a decent finisher and looked for more isolation opportunities, while being one of the best shooters in the league. But it is his smartness and grit that I think will help him have a long career.

I’m really surprised someone used a football ( soccer) player to describe a basketball player, first time I’ve witnessed it.
You need to do an update on Kyle Lowry. Looking back at this, his offensive weaknesses was his finishing at the rim, but after that Boston series I think that part of his game needs an updated closer look. And his defense improved this season. Measuring by win shares, he outranks All NBA Defense guards like Marcus Smart, Patrick Beverley, and Eric Bledsoe. 2019-2020 season he was the best defensive guard on the best defensive team. He should've been NBA All Defensive 1st team, but instead was completely snubbed. Just another addition, in Defensive Real Plus Minus, he ranks higher than BOTH Marcus Smart and Eric Bledsoe. It's absolutely crazy to me he was completely snubbed, and these stats alone should spell out he's the best defensive guard in the NBA.

Always loved Lowry. The year the Rockets had him right before they got Harden, I watched him every game and was amazed at how much of an impact he had on the game on all levels. HOF for sure.
Lowry is one crafty bastard, and I enjoy his smarts and effort-based game a lot.
As a Raptors fan I will always defend his game. He was taken in the 20's draft night and worked his ass off with limited natural ability to become what I call "The Everyman All Star." He doesn't excel at anything but has carved out a role where he finds himself as a starting pg on almost any team in the nba. People like John Wall who had higher peaks fizzle out but Lowry has managed to stay at a solid all star level. I think with his chip this past year he deserves consideration for HOF.. Which is mind blowing I know, but if you really think about and compare accolades theres no reason why he cant. I mean Tracy McGrady never even made it past the first round

Anthony Norman I think he’s in dude. He’ll be a 5+ time All-Star, have an All-NBA appearance, second best player on a championship team, he’ll have have 15k points, 6k assists. Rn Basketball Reference gives him a 65% chance of making it and that number is only gonna go up
It really comes down to how he transitions in the twilight of his career. Really interested to see how he develops his game this year.

to compare him to another footballer Lowry reminds me of Kenny Dalglish, a Liverpool and Scotland legend whose main weapon was his football brain and his rather large rear end that could shield the ball efficiently from bigger, stronger and faster players. Doesn't show up much in stats either but he was vital to the teams success
Obviously with KD out, Kawhi was the runaway best player in the finals last year. If you actually watched all 6 games, you would see Lowry was by far the scrappiest dude on the floor. He might not be a top 10 player in the league, but he sure made his impact felt in that series.

He had multiple crucial turnovers and let van vleet outplay him several times. He shot the ball horribly as well. Steph has never came to play at a high level outside of that one 47 point game where his team lost horribly in any finals game he ever played.

As soon as they traded for him that's when I changed my prediction from the bucks being the favorites to come out the east to the Raptors. He was easily the best big man defender in the playoffs.
When they got Marc, first thing I told my nephew: This is some anti Embiid, shit I’m sure. I was right lol. But overall he was shutting down offenses for the whole playoff chip run.

Watching him in the finals made me happy to see the old school point guard come back I'm a Westbrook fan and I had to admit Lowry is a way better pure point then like most of these point guards in the league
Someone finally recognizes the reason lowry is an all-star every year. Every time you talk to someone from the US they think lowry is a piece of trash when in reality Lowry is probably the best guard in the NBA at doing the dirty work and just being a team player!!!!
The thing with Lowry is that just a couple seasons ago he was such a good all around scorer. In 2016-17 he averaged 22 pts and 7 assists on 46% from the field and 41% from three. He could finish at the rim, had a decent mid range game and floater and was scorching from three. It seems like in the past 2 seasons he’s deliberately stepped down his offensive game in order to give other players (like Siakam and Vanvleet) more opportunities to score. He only took 11 shots a game this year and like mentioned in this video, most of his shots were open threes or layups. It’s tough as a lowry fan because I’ve seen him display in years past that he’s capable of creating his own shot and finishing those chances as opposed to just being very passive with his own offense

According to the US media, Raptors only had one superstar, Kawhi. So thank you for making this video to clarify why the Raptors won the championship as a total team effort. Lowry doesn't always look to score, but he is always the first to box-out, take charge and pass accurately to his other teammates. He is more of a traditional point guard than today's NBA standard (where the PG has the highest two attempts in a game). When Lowry is on the court, he will give you the "extra possessions" from causing turn-overs (steal or charge) and box-out to reduce offensive rebounds. This is why he is team-high in + and - numbers.
This also applies to the importance of Marc Gasol, who is quite similar to Lowry where scoring isn't his strongest suit. Gasol also does little things like Lowry to give the team extra possession. With Gasol, Lowry, Siakim, and VanVleet on the court, the Raptor's defense is one of the top teams in today's league. Just look at the playoff numbers as a team. Raptors ranked middle and near bottom in almost every offensive category but ranked near the top for lowest opponent's total score and lowest opponent shooting %. These two measurements are the end result of hard defensive work, and many of the deflections, box-outs, and chasing after switches do not get counted as your typical "stats".
It's frustrating to listen to the US media that talks about Kawhi as the ONLY worth noting player on the team. Siakim's league's newest MIP. Gasol man-handled Vucevic, Embiid and Giannis. VanVleet had a historical moment. He had a historical bad performance during the 76er's series (he got more shots blocked than shots made in the series!), and then he bounced back to shoot 13/15 three-pointers in the last three games against the Bucks. VanVleet's relentless chase after Curry also was a key defensive measure by Coach Nick. Then there is Ibaka (aka Iblocka) who was the critical player in Game 7 against the 76'ers and a key player in defeating the undersized Warriors.
After all, Kawhi has made several "history" during the 2018-2019 season: 1) most missed games due to load management (20+ games) 2) first-ever game-7 buzzer-beater against the 76'ers 3) managed to cause Paul George to break his 4-year contract in a matter of days during the "waiting period" 4) he left the Raptors after just winning the championship in less than 2 weeks 5) last, his older sister just got charged for robbing and the death of an old lady. Boy.. Kawhi is making history everywhere he goes.. lol

That’s exactly why I’m a big Lowry fan. He does all the little things that done necessarily show up in the box score but help the team. He also hustles more than most other guards, always going for the loose ball, taking the charge, scrapping for rebounds, despite his size which makes him unique amongst guards too
I'm glad Kyle is getting some praise, it's justly deserved. He was the biggest shock to me this post season as I kept expecting him to disappear and he kept making big play after big play. I'm very happy for him and think this raptors team in general doesn't get the praise they deserve because everyone went Klaw crazy and Golden State imploded with injuries. They are going to be dangerous again this year.

The "little-thing king" title is perfect. That's what Lowry is and does and that's why he's the true MVP of the Raptors. The point about the defensive backcourt pairing of Lowry and FVF is spot on (and obviously the numbers bear it out). They are undersized, but super smart and ferocious as pitbulls, so despite the obvious size mismatch available to exploit for opposing team, they typically will not risk it fearing they'll either get their pockets picked, get called for an offensive foul on the post up or draw a charge. Nurse's brilliant defensive schemes combined with the total buy-in and ball IQ of these players have the Raptors defense humming like a well-oiled machine. Love watching them play.

I’ve always seen Lowry as an impact PG. Like Pat Beverly, he doesn’t need to score to impact a game. He operates within the pace of the game and plays the right way.
What he struggled with for years was putting up points when we NEEDED him to deliver and obviously last year he broke that trend, particularly in game 6.
But his value as a basketball players is barely if at all reflected in his stats. He picks his spots and makes momentum swinging plays like dagger 3s and taking charges.

Kyle's willingness to sacrifice his body for a swing in momentum is truly extraordinary. He's just not afraid to take a hit from any big. From the wrong angle, that charge from Embiid could have been season or career-ending. And for the volume of slander Lowry has gotten through years of choking playoff runs up until the present, I'm glad he redeemed himself after missing the winning shot in G5 and came back to completely take over in the first quarter of G6 NBA finals on the world's biggest stage. I'm happy that both Lowry and Gasol won a chip after grinding for years.
