Echo GT 225 - Replacing the Trimmer Line

- This quick easy video shows how to replace the string in the Echo GT 225 weed eater using the rapid loader trimmer head. Replacing the string line is simple and quick and I love this trimmer head design.
The rapid loader head uses pre-cut 8" lengths of string that make reloading quick and easy!
If you only have a small yard and aren't trimming much, this rapid load head might be the right one for you!

*I do not endorse nor am I being paid by Echo in any way to make this video*
Thank you for this! There are 9,000,000,000 videos on the speed-feed trimmer head, and I had to do some serious searching to even find one on my little Echo GT225 trimmer, but I love it, and it works fine for me, at 73. Just needed to get those mechanics of one way feeding of the precut trim line down. Great clear video!
I've been landscaping for 10 plus years and my company gave me this Echo weed wacker head to use to clear the property and it confused me so much lol never in my life have I seen a one way system haha, thank you for the help, I do prefer the wind up feed heads. No need to keep using 8 inch pieces.
Man you're a great reviewer. Super clear, easy to understand. Thank you for doing this!
Thank you for this video! I just bought one used so this was very helpful.
lol 😂 I thought I accidentally clicked on Info Wars for a second! Anyone else see the resemblance?
I just saw your comment, yes a definite similarity to Alex Jones. Just needs a raspier voice.
Dude predicted 9/11 tho
Yep

Thank you. So simple and to the point.
Thanks for this I was confused as heck
I am hoping to see your video on changing the factory string head on the 225 to the speed feed head. Thanks
I need him to show us to change the head cause I have one and trying to find the right replacement .
I'm waiting on that next video. This type of head is not efficient for me. I'm looking to replace it with one that holds more line
Thanks for the help homie!
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Right to the point, thank you
The strings on mine are stuck and can’t get them out. What do I do?
If you take off the head with the screws to get the strings unstuck, there is a spring under the metal teeth that need to have tension and it captures on the hook of the backside of the teeth that applies tension to the string, so be careful taking it off.
EXCELLENT VIDEO
Just bought a refurbished Echo and the shop gave me some extra line to cut on my own. Thing is, the line stays curved, so I tried to line it up with the grain and the level of the spin. I might have cut the lines short but it will suffice til next time.
Thanks
Man I was like how do I replace it, I have so much pride it took me 3 weeks to look this video up lol smh but thanks
😂😎
i put the line through and when i went to replace the one side a=had the line and came out like always but the other side the line somehow wasnt there to grab to pull and i tried to push it through wouldnt go i took head off and saw the little teeth i fell and not sure if the both go on bottom of the head or one on top one one bottom the model #ispb -250-ln curved shaft
Yup! Same here. One side wouldn't come out in either direction. Opened it and the teeth and springs fell out. Put that back together and now one side doesn't hold at all and is slung wherever it lands. The other side still doesn't release.
I did this but the strings keep coming out
I was hoping to see the video you referenced about changing the head. The stock one is junk and I eat through line way too fast.
So I took mines apart because I didnt know how to reload it. Now when i push the plastic through it doesn't hold it. I only used it one time now I'm stuck please help
I'm having the same problem... did u figure out how to fix it?
Thank you very much sir.
Thank You!!!
Ur a life saver I’m sooooooooo dumb!!!!😂
I just bought the head you're showing and got it working, however I placed wire on both sides and on one side I cannot no matter what I do, it won't come out , any ideas ? I did trying to pull it out like you show here , I got that small length out but I still have a small length of wire where you put it in that I can't remove, I even tried using a vice grip no luck at all , so I can only use one side , any thoughts or ideas as how to yank the other side out ?
The one way feed system isn’t working for me. I’ve tried just about every troubleshooting method possible. Any ideas how I can get the teeth to grab the string so it fly out during use?
Yes I accidentally took it apart and two little pieces fell out . Not for sure where it goes. HELP !
Same. What a pain. I just wish things worked like they should.

Thanks a lot
Im on a job site and did this and it just keeps shooting out
I accidentally took the screws out of the weed eater head and now I don’t know how to put the screws to get the string to stay in
I did the same thing and don't know how to put the Springs back in
same
Will that work on a a PAS-225Vp ? I have the speed head and would prefer this one. I hate the bump one ! Where can I buy it ?
Can you put a brush trimmer blade on the GT 225???
Have you dropped the video on how to install the bump head?
I came up on this trimmer when I moved into a new house, it was left behind but it’s practically new- I’m missing the screws that hold the head together for the 8inch stock feed head (however you say it) - was hoping if I bought a bump head speed feeder That would solve my missing screw problem or should I buy the bump head and a few (not sure what size) screws?
Jordan: The threaded shaft on the GT-225 is 3/8th inch. Simply buy any bump style trimmer head you like and install. I use the style head which will receive up to 15ft of new line in the .080 style line. All you do to remove the crappy stock whisker style head like in this vid...is put an allen wrench or large nail in the spacer hole which sits between the shaft end and bump head. Then hold the nail and using a 9/16th inch wrench...remove the nut holding the bump head onto the shaft.
Replacement speed head for gt225?
String won't go trough enough and now stuck. How do I get it out
So I did this, and my stream came out of my weedeater and I don’t know how to keep it in my weedeater
thanks
What do you do if the line will not stay in. Mine will not lock in place anymore
Hi ben, I would recommend a speedfeed head, but get a universal speedfeed kit that has the necessary adapters (use the white one with the black nut in the middle) which is for echo curved shaft string trimmers.
Get a thicker line
You can take some screws out, open it up, and then clean the grip teeth inside and oil the pivot points. There is a video on YT you might have found already on how to do it. Not hard at all.
@@DieLuftwaffel can you please give the title for this you tube video or give a link? Cannot find… thanks
My string doesn't stay in it comes out from both sides. How can I fix this
Did you fix it by chance? Mine is doing the same thing
Uhhm the strings feeds all the way through both ways I'm not sure what's wrong and why it's not a one way feed system anymore
I bought this p o s and the line flies right out every time
I have the same issue. Did you fix your issue?
@robertstametz5212 yeah, I bought a Stihl fs38. Works great. Also grabber an Echo electric since I already had a few batteries and with the 4ah Batts it works decent for small stuff
My lines keep falling out and I can take the line out from either side
Next video please
😂😂 thanks
I’m not sure what I opened it up. : |
I just got mad af😂 I alr took it apart
These heads are junk don’t get one with this head or replace immediately
I have this head on my echo weedwhacker. I think it is very stupid and pointless. i find myself throwing away half the length of each string when it gets short. Also i have to handle the dirty head every time i want to get more string. I would much rather just load up a bunch of string and get string on demand as it gets shorter. I think this is the dumbest head ive ever seen in my life.
I bought one of these. Horrible. Your always trimming with a short string instead of a ckntimius feed. Have to replace so.often, its very in- efficient. Not at all impressed.
I just replace the wire after every use
Garbage
This head is crappy. I replaced it with a Speed Feed head.
My string is stuck I can't pull it out.. so IDK how to change the string any clue?
Sometimes it's hard to get a grip on the line with your fingers , to pull it out
You can use a pair of pliers , to pull it out . I hope this helps .
