I never really used the S-1 for ambient, I may have to change that. I really love the arps you can make on it. Such a versatile little synth. Roland nailed it with that one.
Try using just the attack and decay section of the envelope with sustain and release set to 0. Put attack on full and modify decay to taste. You might also want to hold shift and turn the square wave dial to manually set the pulse width to a suitable timbre as well.
I’m actually trying to get the s-1 soon. I mainly make soundscape style music and this is a good synth for that. It’s nice to see it used for ambient. Actually found your videos through research lol. Nice song though! Very simple and shows off some of what this tiny synth can do
Lovely!! I wonder how it would sound if the foundational chord had a more spread out voicing? Or maybe as something a little more ambiguous like a 9th instead of major triad? And thanks for showing how to squeeze the most out of the S-1 - super cool!
Great, thanks for the electro magnetic induction to the S1 ambient sojourn - going to give it a whirl and see if the flux density will pull/push the lonely Gauss meter and provide some attraction to my polarized lugholes ! Can't get more cheesy than that ?
There are lots complicated menu names. Seems one has to keep referring to the manual for what they do. Better maybe to just play it as in the vid. Great machine…
@@noodlingaround2023I would be happier if they had used something other than a calculator display for the menue as the abbreviations they use to fit the menu on to that are unintuitive. It is otherwise a decent Synth.
great tutorial! really wish they add a knob catch mode (already exists in other roland gear) with the next software update. then we'll be able to tweak more params live, especially shift + knob params. what knob catch mode does for other roland gear - when you turn a knob it does not change a parameter right away, but you can scroll to current param setting which is shown on the screen and then change it.
Yea, it can definitely create nice pads. It has a minijack stereo output. So depending on how your system is made, you'll need the right cables and/or adapters.
Hello, I need your help, how to connect this device to the synthesizer, the synthesizer has a midi input and output, there is a cord, on one side a midi jack, on the other a 3mm jack. But they do not react to each other. I can not understand what the reason is.
Somehow after leaving chord drone on hold and switching on the pattern after some time during 64 steps the drone started disappearing. After whole 64 steps the drone disappeared while Hold button and chord notes still remain
I'm not a fan of d motion, but I it could be used in a creative way as many other features, depends on you. Anyway I wasn't just showing how it works here.
I would pay for a patreon/course from you on creating ambient music.
I'll think about it. Thanks for the feedback!

Love love love the S1, take it almost everywhere i go.
These videos are making me love the S1. I just bought a second one. Once I learn to make better sounding ambient plucks… It’s gonna be 🔥!

@@Metamerist625Thanks a lot! I’m going to try this when I get home 🙌🏾
I got a great sound with a little attack, little decay, no sustain, and a little release. 🙌🏾
very nice
Cool.. so much can be done with this machine. Love it..
Taking notes, thanks 📝
Thank you for another inspiring and informative S1 video!

Just watching you this track really helped demystify the S-1 for me. Lovely stuff!
Great, thanks!
Beautiful stuff!
Grande come al solito. Grazie infinite
Great stuff, thank you for the explanation!
I painted the groove in on the knobs of my s1, huge improvement!
I love your music and tutorials! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the kind feedback!
How do you... this is so simple and great. thanks for sharing, been really getting inspired by your videos!
I'm really glad! Cheers 😊
Brilliant!..
magnific !
Really amazing!
Thank you

Hi ! Well of course it's possible to experiment with more complex or different chords and get very interesting results. It's a very versatile synth.
These are going to be great during the apocalypse when electricity is hard to come by.
Ahah I think we'll have many other problems in that case 😅

Thanks for putting this together,S1 menu diving is a pain so walkthroughs are super helpful
The menu isn't that big. Pretty shallow, for diving.
There are lots complicated menu names. Seems one has to keep referring to the manual for what they do. Better maybe to just play it as in the vid. Great machine…

Absolutely correct..
Coming from mc101 here, can confirm there's much worse menu diving than the s1
Cool, I want one.
There's an Amazon link for buying it in the description. It's an affiliate link, it doesn't change anything for you but it helps me a lot. Cheers
$205 from amazon, Sweetweater. Not bad! 🎸😎👍😀

That would be a great update!
We are always better when record is not on...❤
So true 😆
Can this be used to create pads for worship music? How do I connect this to PA? Thanks
Yea, it can definitely create nice pads. It has a minijack stereo output. So depending on how your system is made, you'll need the right cables and/or adapters.
Hi, I bought it a week and a half ago, and I still can't figure out what to twist. I probably need lessons.

You have to make sure both of the devices are on the same midi channel. It's possible to set it form the main menu .
Кабель Befaco TRS-MIDI A
By default the s-1 is set to midi channel 3
Great videos!!! Have you ever considered some Thonk knobs? 🤔 I can’t see where your envelope knobs are at 😑.
Yes I'll definitely have to get them
Somehow after leaving chord drone on hold and switching on the pattern after some time during 64 steps the drone started disappearing. After whole 64 steps the drone disappeared while Hold button and chord notes still remain
🤔 mmmh. this needs some testing
The S-1 in general is cheating, and I love it
While a random function is nice, having it controlled by D-motion is childish and impractical.
LOL
