His restaurant served excellent bbq, I always enjoyed it. A friend of mine had a birthday party at the restaurant and we had a great time, Bobby was there playing Asteroids with us. He was very fit even after retirement, kept himself in excellent shape.

You are absolutely correct. Someone must have had a few too many in setting this ranking. Perfect player. Strong, fast, big, hard working, fundamentally sound, versatile, brains, character, style, grace, intensity, WINNER in his sport, business, and life. And beloved in his community. He is a role model, not necessarily for football, but for living one's life in a balanced way. If everyone did what they do as well as #78, the world would be a better place. Running back the onside kick like he did is a perfect indicator of his play. Like LT before LT. And without the problems. Football is a brutal and dark industry, and Bell is a point of light that makes it less that way. He was old school AND ahead of his time. I hope the players today recognize his greatness and what he and his fellow players did in paving the way, despite the fact that professional football also has an underside that embodies some pretty rotten things abt our society.

  • @donaldschmidt2990

Lawrence Taylor before Lawrence Taylor . That was Bobby Bell. His teammate Buck Buchanan tied it in a ribbon when he said, "Bobby Lee Bell was the greatest athlete who ever was." Hank Strams comment that Bell could play any position on a football field and not embarrass himself is another testimonial of his greatness. What Bell and Lanier symbolized was the AFLs all out pursuit of elite talent. No matter the color or where they came from!! Even by the seventies many teams were still ducking black players. Especially from the historically black colleges. The Chiefs, Raiders and Steelers were completely color blind. It showed on the field in their early dominance over NFL teams. The only question about Bells ranking in the top 100 is , why so low? Along with Taylor and Jack Ham one of the three greatest outside linebackers of all time. And not necessarily in that order.

The guy that’s sometimes overlooked is Dave Robinson from the Packers. Very versatile athletic LB with speed. I can see why LT might mention Henderson in Dallas. Henderson was a blitzer with speed, who could chase the play. In reality, he was no where near as good as LT.

Lawrence Taylor is deservedly lauded because he changed the game profoundly. But I'm still a huge fan of the balanced run stopping/pass covering/occasionally blitzing OLBs like Bell and Jack Ham.

uhhhh huh and u never see guys like this anymore... one of the reasons is scouting.
the only players that get noticed are ones with extremely rare connections/ or a ton of fckin money.
    and no in between.
in the land of opportunity- there isn’t any.
it’s sad to see the downward spiral of the NFL.
but, the more u pay human beings the more it will change the way they perceive everyday life.
why give every play your all if you’re just gonna get the same $500,000 check at the end of every week?
Look at the statistics, for every sport, the more you pay a man, the less effort
