One of my favorite things about Andromeda is how different Ryder is from Shep. Their youth really comes through, as does the fact that they're not bound by military protocol. Just a talented, fierce, horny kid with an attitude, accepting the enormous responsibility thrust upon them. Haha. Fryda Wolff knocked it out of the park.
IIRC, of the four tone categories Sara tends to get more "logic/reason" and "snarky/humorous" options and Scott gets more "professional" and "passionate/emotional" ones. Scott actually WAS in the Alliance Military before the twins followed their dad into the Initiative, Sara was a junior archaeologist at a prothean dig on Mars. Yeah, Shepard was a fairly established "interstellar badass" in universe, by the time we met them. The Ryder twins are at a much earlier point in that journey, they're 22ish and Shepard was 29 in ME1. Of course they're comparatively unrefined/unprofessional. Of course they seem young. Of course they're a bit clueless. They ARE young, they DON'T have everything "down" yet. They're trying things out and seeing how what works. They're finding/defining the kind of "interstellar badass" they'll be.
Glad to see you giving it a shot. Im a big fan of ME:A, it had plenty of problems at launch but i think they did a good job patching the game. Its got great gameplay and a decent story in my opinion, to many people write it off.
Ahh I'm always bummed that others so rarely use the default name. For me its so cool and immersive when certain people call you Sara/Scott. That first shuttle flight scene is one of the coolest in the game I think, beautiful! This game will often interrupt dialogue so always be sure to stop and wait for a min after a ambient conversation starts. Fun fact, if you don't save Greer you find him on a table in that base. Looking forward to more!
Andromeda is actually great. This is my hill. I think it suffered from people expecting the Trilogy style over again and it thus got way more stick than it deserved (though, to be fair, it was super buggy at launch). But personally I much prefer having something new and different. 27:29 Funny thing; if you use the default names (Scott or Sara) Ryder actually gets their first name used. The twin is the other gender character. They have set backgrounds and slightly different dialogue sometimes, who's the hero just depends on who woke up first. I've seen that sort of thing a couple of times in games, I kinda like it.
Yeah, it does seem like a lot of the hate came from either the game not being Mass Effect 4 or that it was super glitchy when it came out. I've been told there have been many improvements made since the initial release, so we'll see!
@@LucyusMaximusSuper glitchy is an understatement. The problems they had in production on Andromeda is honestly fascinating, and EA force released a half baked Beta test version, to put it lightly. They did over 10 later patches to fix all the issues to make it, IMO, an enjoyable, fun to play game. It also didn't help that it released within 2 months of a few other games you may have heard of: Zelda BotW, Horizon ZD, and Neir Automata. Against those, a broken game never stood a chance
One thing I enjoyed about this game is the differences between the Ryder twins. While BroShep and FemShep are basically the same person, with different formal wear and romance options, the same isn't true here. Scott was an Alliance Marine, while Sara was a techno-archeologist in training who was paying for school by working security at dig sites. Scott comes across as cocky, a bit aggressive, matter of fact, and is so smooth romantically that he comes across as a bit of a Casanova. Sara is curious, thoughtful, looks at the big picture, and is a bit socially awkward, especially when flirting. One great example occurs when driving around a particularly rugged planet. Your squadmates will start discussing the terrain, and eventually will ask, "What do you think, Ryder?" Sara will go on a nerdgasm about the characteristics of the local rock, plate tectonics, and erosion patterns, rambling on for almost a minute before realizing that nobody is listening. Scott will just say, "I see ambush sites. Lots of ambush sites."
So glad you're playing this. Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch future videos the day they come out, because I just don't have the time at the moment. But eventually, I'll watch every single one. I hope you enjoy the game. It is flawed, but I have played it multiple times and enjoyed it every time.
Carefully crafted to be non-spoiler - There are three companions who are the most popular in the game, and based on your previous adventures, two of those will likely be yours as well. When paired together, the dialogue between those two opens up some of the most heartwarming conversations, and interesting lore that reaches back to the Milky Way. Click the "read more" button to see when the Arks were sent. Not sure if it's revealed other than by date in the game. Not really a spoiler, but if it is discoverable, I don't want to tiny spoil it. The Arks were launched between ME1 and ME3.
When it comes to colony ships that use cryo stasis, the way it usually goes in most fiction is like this. A small crew stays awake and monitors everything for 5 - 10 years before waking up another crew to look after things while they go into cryo. Repeat until you reach your destination. Space isn't as empty as people may think, so it's unwise to just let a ship float along without anyone paying attention.
I think in this case SAM is actually smart enough to a lot of the monitoring his/her/its self (Hyperion-SAM is, at least, dunno about those on the other arks, that didn't get Alec's later upgrades) and wake up people in the event that action from someone with thumbs is needed.
@thomasjoychild4962 Possibly, but considering how leery of A.I. people are in the Mass Effect universe, I still think there would still be a human crew awake. 'Just in case'
@@cv8167 Remember that they don't actually know how smart SAM is, though, I don't think anyone below a certain level even knows SAM is a full-fledged AI. Alec very deliberately didn't tell people.
@@thomasjoychild4962 Doesn't matter how smart he is he's still an A.I. And them thinking he's not that smart would make them even less willing to risk leaving him in charge alone.

Just started watching this so apologizes if you figured it out in game or chat already told you but something I like about this game is that you don't have to "settle" for your character creation decisions for the entire game. The beginning of the game takes place before ME3! Get as many survivors as possible to another Galaxy because of the Reaper threat! Then they set off and 634 years passed! During this time, ME3 has already passed 633 years since the great battle!
Getting away from the reapers wasn't openly part of it, just exploring and colonising a new galaxy. Until literally the start of ME3, even governments mostly only half-believed the reapers existed and many had actively quashed news about them in order to prevent a panic. Yes, some people behind the initiative knew about them and had escaping them as a motive, but the people signing up mostly knew nothing.
After playing Mass Effect 1-3 I hate to admit it but I started with Andromeda. It was gifted to me and once I tried it, I was hooked. I liked Andromeda. Played it many times until friends had talked me into playing ME 1-3. I wasn't sure about it because ME1 was an older game but I gave it a shot. Right from the start I was hooked again. Might have been a bit dated but it still looked amazing. Soon, I was attached to the story and characters. I still like Andromeda but it's a shadow of the 1,2 and 3. Andromeda is so much better with mods and even though I have since modded ME 1-3, they really didn't need it. It's great to see you play these amazing games.
