    Hey Kevin,
    Excellent video. Thanks so much for this video.
    I used to do some carpentry but never any real woodworking or fine detailing.
    Coincidentally, Drew at Wesponized Hippie just recently posted that he restrained a Woodstock but regrettably did not video the process. I hope to do this same project with and for my kids, eventually. I can't wait to see your other videos on this project.
    Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.

    Hi Kevin. When I carved stocks, I used a King Arthur mini grinder. Had a chain head for massive material removal. Then varying levels of pin like heads that were less and less aggressive. Even several flap sander heads in various grits. It allowed me to rough shape much quicker and get to the finish steps with less work. I loved designing the shapes. Most times I would have a general idea, but let the wood and the process dictate the final contours. Also, I just got into modelling a bit. The suppliers sell small boards like your nail files, but with a much wider range of grits. Up to 1000 or more that really just polishes. Might be worth checking out. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

      Hi Tim. I've carved a few stocks myself that chainsaw wheel that you're referring to would've been ideal. Instead I did all of my shaping with a draw knife and rasps. I'll stop by the local art supply store and see if they offer those abrasive boards. Thanks for the tips my friend.

    A good stock with a good cheekpeice balances the gun out and improves the shooting. Beautiful stock, Kevin. Anxious to see the completed project. ScottinPa.

      The stock is a take off of an AA ProElite limited edition pattern from James Maccari back when he still sold DIY stocks. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Still one of his finest patterns in my opinion due to the flat beaver tail BR forend. 😉👍

      I haven't produced them yet. It's a winter project that I intend to get back to when my hunting season ends at the end of January. I've got a few others that need to be produced first, and then I'll probably get back into the custom 95 project.

    Hi Kevin, great job. Interested to know why you used epoxy instead of wood glue. Much easier to clean up afterwards. Will you remove all traces of resin around the buttstock so it does not show through the polish?. Nice idea on using nailfiles for detail work. You could glue one to a small block of wood to make it easier to hold. We have flexiblocks here with velcro paper which would be great to finish the contours of the stock as they follow any shape pretty well. Keep up the good work. David.

    • @marcmyers1465
      @marcmyers1465 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wood glue welds very poorly to Dalbergia sp. like Ebony, Rosewood, Cocobolo etc... Even with epoxy it's often necessary to dry the two pieces to be joined with Acetone to rinse off the oils 1st. . 😉👍 Lignum Vitae is the extreme end when it comes to oily woods as it is pretty much self lubricating. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello my friend. Looks like Marc already answered your question and he's right. (as usual). Oily woods don't do well with wood glues. Thanks as always my friend.

    • @majorscope
      @majorscope ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@razor1962 Hi Kevin, I take the point. When we used to glue iroko with cascamite, the recognised glue in the U.K. at the time the joint could fall apart the next day. We then switched to a grade 4 (exterior) PVA and you could beat two glued up pieces of iroko all day and the wood would split but the joint held. I have iroko window boards in the house glued up with PVA twenty years ago and still solid. Not being critical, just hopefully points of interest to readers. Best Regards, David.

    Hey Kevin, it might be a silly question but do you own a multi tool? I don't know how I survived before owning one of them 😂 anyway with this tool in the past I've used old blades and epoxied emery paper to the blade, wrapping over the old teeth so I've got sanding on both sides and and edge, it's absolutely brilliant for getting into little places and also fine detail sanding into grooves and lines.
    Can't wait for the final oiling and finishing part of the video, love your gentle and relaxed way of explaining what you do.

      Dremel makes sanding discs with the 3M mesh abrasives. They are particularly useful for sanding tapered crown shelves on grip caps. 😉👍
      The ISSF Actually banned tapered grip shelves on 10M rifles back in the early 80's as shooting appliances/aids. 🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mick. I'm not sure what kind of multi- tool that you're referring to. I do own a Leatherman and a Gerber multi-tool. It's always amazes me how different people find different ways to accomplish a task. Thanks as always my friend.

    • @mickchaganis6607
      @mickchaganis6607 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@razor1962 oh I'm talking electric multi tool, maybe they have a different name in the US, it uses a cutting blade that vibrates from side to side.

    • @razor1962
