Of course everyone had already mentioned this, but I'll reinforce it.... This is the 4 mallet étude for Texas region band, and the 7/8 timing is really giving me trouble. There's no doubt that youre gonna get a ton of views on a breakdown video of this!!! Thank you so much! I hope I play this as fantastic as you at my audition! :-)

I'm mad at this piece-.- In my 3 1/2 years of band, I've done exactly 1 four mallet piece and one 7/8 piece.
    This one.
Hello to staying and hour a day after school to learn these pieces.
    I dislike being a freshman...

@iamtawni IP soloist series. I think I have an IP200 in the left and ip275's in the rest. There may be an ip240 in the 4th mallet position. I don't quite remember! After I recorded this I experimented with NJZ purples and I really liked that sound.

If you understand 7/8, I really don't learning it will be that hard. The hard part is putting emotion into it.

@Marimbalogy I"d also like to add that I used a touch of reverb since I was basically in a closet sized room at the time!

I have a few more technique vids I want to crank out (triple laterals, speed etc.), but I have some lit in my pocket I could do a vid on this summer :)

So much better than Johnathan's Light. 7/8 has to be my favorite time signature, and I really feel like this piece should fly a little faster than is marked, by at least 10 BPM. There's nothing faster than eighth notes, so bumping the tempo up is very feasible, unlike the Timpani which has some speedy triplets (which are split amongst the drums, making them much harder). The auditions will definitely be interesting this year!

Oh, Perhaps I should do an updated video and break the piece down a little. I don't find this recording of mine particularly inspiring :) I just learned it for fun one day.

It’s my second year of playing percussion and my teacher assigned this solo to me. Is it too advanced for my year?

It depends on how much four mallet technique you've been working on. This pieces uses a lot of different stroke types, but the intervals are pretty simple. So if you're comfy with double vertical (hitting 2 mallets at the same time), double latteral (hitting one then the other in the same hand in a rapid movement), and single strokes, you should be good!
