Then you wonder why nobody has a family doctor. I left doing comprehensive family medicine because the government has forced us into a failed business model. This is why wealthy people put all their assets (property, vehicles & funds) into trust funds. Taxes on the $$$ are only on income and other distributions from a trust. Trust beneficiaries don't have to pay taxes on returned principal from the trust's assets. I make well over the max marginal tax rate (in my province (including fed) 52,5%). I've been pushing for more taxes on this issue for decades. Shareholding is often rewarding to the wealthy as taxes have never been recuperated on that initial value (investment). Therefore, they were only taxed 33%, whereas the average "schmo" invested their hard earned money (after paying their share of taxes on it initially - 14% - 52.5%) and then we're taxed only 33%.
You do realize that the lowest income with an investment will pay more in taxes (prior to this modification)? It resided at 14%+33%🤯.
This is what was unfair about this. There should have been and 2 tier system in place.
The one proposed at 66% and/or another that included the value of the shares within their respective taxable income year ((yearly income + value of shares) - maximum marginal tax rate) but continuing the 33% on any dividend, commission.
This is hurting only those that haven't really participated into our pension fund. My province saw it's own one appear in the late 70's. So a person like my father that retired in the late 90's has barely any funds to retire with as much of his wealth is tied up in assets.
the rule against perpetuities (trusts) were repealed in Canada, the income tax law makes it unlikely for perpetual trusts to become commonplace; unlike USA, UK, France, Germany and countless others.😢
I've always been against shareholding but pro (termed) bonds. Lower interest rates but even lower tax rates all the while keeping the owner in charge and benefiting his workers and not passive shareholders.

It amazes me how many people are enthusiastically in favour of this ridiculous tax. The average “peasant voter” has no clue about how to build a business or anything else beyond living hand-to-mouth. They would love nothing more than to see all the doctors, small businesses, farmers and everyone who’s worked hard for what they’ve accumulated to have it confiscated so they the peasants can fight over the proceeds. They’re not interested in doing the work to earn any wealth but they’re sure interested in shaking down those who have. I have NO sympathy for those people.

Trudeau is the wealthy and he is speaking like it is a class much above him. The reality is that this capital gains is charged when you sell property, mutual funds and by the sounds of it , leave your home to your children. It is actually impacting the upper and lower middle class , not the rich as they have tax shelters and trusts like Trudeau.

Then you have to wait another couple hours for the dispenser to give you a ticket that says the pop you want is only available from this other machine. You go to the other machine and it tells you the wait will be 6 months for your pop. All the while there’s another machine right beside you that you can put your money straight into and the “pop” comes out right away but nobody is willing to use it because the other one says “free” and it’s been plugged in since the 60s. This is where we are in Canada.

They forced nurses to leave Canada in the 1990's due hospital closures and layoffs. I kept my job by a hair. Most of these nurses never returned to Canada. They let them pick their shifts, helped them get their degree in nursing if they were a college graduated RN and probably had signing bonuses. If we wanted to get our degree part time in Canada , we had to use our vacation and organize our own replacement nurse. Maternity leave in the USA was only 6 wks and I do not know if that has changed.

P.S. what the government shows doctors earning is the money they receive but they must still pay rent, heating, carbon tax, office supplies, medical supplies, Mal practice insurance, college fees, training fees, ... Take the government number and divide by 2 to get closer to their income. The government decided to pay the pharmacist up to 3 times as much as the doctor for certain things. I guess that is because the pharmacist is less qualified. They should give the doctors the cost of living increases since the NDP stabbed them in the back with the 16.6% pay reduction and caused the flood of doctors to leave Canada. Did you know that the doctors pay the bill for the medical costs of immigration in Canada? There is always no money available and that is the reason we cannot afford to ever meet the cost of living increases for the doctors.
