I think the first scene of the Albert clock is from the 1948 Odd Man Out. Not Belfast , but studio scenery.. The boys playing football are on a blitzed site during or after the war.

Later than 1930, post-war, I think, but very interesting, and one thing is for sure - it comes from a time when my late grandparents - were 20 years younger than I am now.

At 1.07mins you have a clip of Barney Hughes Hungarian Flour Mill on Alexander Street West. The breeze block buildings on the left of the street are air raid shelters suggesting the video clip was made during the 2nd World War. At 1.22 mins the clip shows York Street.

Mm whilst the return of trams (like the LUAS in nearby Dublin) would be nice, trolley buses (and I remember them on a visit aeons ago from the South) might be better and easier to install. But expansion of the futuristic looking Glider network may be the best angle of all. Reducing car pollution in inner cities (particulates etc) and frankly getting people out if their cars therein, is the way forward.

Just before the video begins. I can see the gas works. There is a bus on the right. Just across the road from where the bus is is a bus stop where as a boy I'd catch one to go to the Curzon on a Saturday, if I had the 1' 6d to get in.

The streamlined 'McCreary' trams, as seen for example at 1.28, were introduced in 1935, so some of this footage is from the second half of the 1930s.

Hi memorybliss, don't think the first 10 seconds are Belfast at all. It looks like Belfast's Albert Memorial Clock, but it isn't. It seems much smaller, simpler, and when the pan down is completed, the surroundings aren't right either. LondonBrit, just running up to 2 mins is Shaftsbury Square looking down Gt Victoria St (left) & Dublin Rd (right). Just after this, I know where you mean, but the second tram's destination shows 'Balmoral', so maybe up the Lisburn Rd, about where the Majestic cinema was? Lovely stuff!

You're right. The first scene is taken directly from Odd Man Out the movie made just after the war. It was shot on a studio back lot in England., not in Belfast.

Kill for those electric trams nowadays should not have been taken away. But the coal fired factories pumped out some black smoke I think it was the late sixties when the city Hall had a good external cleaning because of smoke pollution.

Judging by the vehicles this film was taken early post world war 2. Certainly not 1930.

Great film and thank you for posting but THE MUSIC IS ABYSMAL , couldn't you change it to something of the time or less haunting ? This is like something from a horror film.
