  • Found this old video of Belfast in 1953 from British Pathe. Recolorised it with #Deoldify - it turned out pretty darned good! Check out the original here: • Belfast (1953) (I make no copyright claims in relation to this material - please visit on British Pathe's channel to see the difference).

The most striking sights being the conviction with which people walk through the city to tend to their matters and the extent to which they are much better dressed.

So nostalgic and atmospheric.. Whilst we often look back with rose tinted glasses, those days were just as difficult, albeit, in other ways.. However, seeing all those faces, lost to time and memory, most, if not all, passed on, captured for eternity on film for us and future generations to marvel at.. Colourisation has made this all the more beautiful to watch and the memories come flooding back.

... yeah, I remember when the traffic was two way round the city hall. Plenty of space for parking in Donegal Sq, ... pre warden of course!

I remember the trolley buses when I was a wee girl... the rounded ridged leather seats and they were clean. 😊

Looks much better then than it does now. Now its the pits. Royal Avenue pot hole, a mixture of brick, concrete, asphalt, bitumen, and rubbish. The Belfast council should be ashamed to invite people to shop there and invite cruise ships and tourist, Belfast I a warehouse for store empty space. The Old Bank building at the corner of North Street and Waring street going to ruin for 20 years or more. As with Lower Garfield Street, Royal Avenue, Now all the pits. and filthy dirty. I'm not surprised American tourist think Detroit is better.
