What great educational videos these are for learning and understanding NINA. Perfect. Thanks so much. I appreciate you doing small bite size videos as I had seen another channel where it was too much to take in... leaving me putting off learning the NINA till a future date. You certainly know the best way to present the info without scaring me away. Again thanks so much.
Great video. I’ve had a couple of false starts with NINA. With the limited number of cloud free nights I run straight back to back yard EOS at the first sign of trouble but you have given me the confidence to try again. Thanks
It's really hard switching software. Whether that's at work or in your back yard with a telescope. I find it's best to just force myself to use it. After a few days, it starts to feel normal! Good luck with NINA!
Wow wow wow!!! Finally found a video that explains things sooooo well. Wasted a rare half decent night on Friday watching others and wish I had found this sooner. Oh well at least I can test things now. Honestly great tutorial mate and easily consumable.
Wow, thanks! Really appreciate your feedback, Rob. Hopefully I will be back onto making more soon. I am just in the process of moving from the UK to Australia, so things are a little hectic at the moment!
Many thanks for the comment - glad you like them! Still fairly new to all this TH-cam stuff, so hopefully they will continue to get better! Clear skies to you!
This has been a great help as I've only just managed to get my old QHY8 camera to connect to NINA although I don't have an auto focuser so that will have to be done manually, when I get home I'm going to install the mini pc in the observatory & connect via the pc or laptop to keep an eye on things. Interesting thing you mentioned about the power on your QHY camera when the error message came up as this also happens when we connected an ATIK 314L+ as the same error message came up & it too boosted the power up to maximum to cool the camera down rather than in steps.
Excellent videos. I'm switching from Nebulosity as it doesn't handle dithering very well and has no plate solving. I am wondering if PHD2 needs special settings from NINA to do a meridian flip? Thank YOU!
Excellent set of videos on NINA. Thanks so much! A couple of questions; 1) why do you plug into the hand controller port of the mount instead of the USB port? 2) why use two laptops? Would it not be easier just to get long cables so you can use the laptop indoors?
Hey Stuart, thanks for commenting. 1) I don't anymore - I have upgraded to a USB cable and joined the 21st century! 2) My main computer is a Mac, unfortunately most software isn't compatible with macs, and I dont really want a windows emulator on my mac. Plus, I like to shut things outside - doors closed. Long cables cause an issue with that. So overall, I find it's easier to have a cheap windows laptop for all the acquisition and stacking software, then do all the editing on my Mac. Hope that helps - and clear skies to you!
I really appreciate these videos, I did try NINA and I am still trying, the beginning is not as smooth as with other software, so, your help is valuable.
Hey man! Glad you have found them useful - hopefully should have the next part out later this week, and I just need some clear skies to get a video on platesolving and auto focus... but I am not having much luck at all with clear skies! Keep trying with NINA, once it's set up and working for you, it really is a great bit of software. Clear skies to you!
Really interesting video! Thanks for putting in the work. Makes my life easier. I’m trying out my new iOptron Cem26 mount. I wish they didn’t gave it a woman’s name, little awkward when you have to say to your wife, I’m going outside to spend some time with Nina 😁
Haha, yes, I can remember my other half's face the first time I tried to explain that all my equipment was talking to NINA, I very quickly realised how that sounded, saw 'the look' and blurted out my clarification! Good luck with the new mount, and clear skies to you!
Yes! Absolutely! I definitely don't get the same quality of sleep as normal (as I am sure my brain is worrying about just that), but some is better than none. Touch wood, it's never happened. Closest I ever got was as I was bringing it all in at about 0330am it started to rain. That's one thing I make sure I do - get out of bed as soon as the imaging session has finished to minimise that risk. So if it's due to finish at 0320, it will then warm the camera and park the scope automatically for me, so I set my alarm for 0330 (time for the warming of the camera) and then just get up and drag it all inside - then back to bed. I also have a small tarp close by so in an emergency I could just throw that over it until the rain passes. But overall, yes, a worry. Hopefully one day I will build a roll off roof observatory, and I plan to put a rain sensor on that so it will close the roof automatically if it detects rain! Clear skies to you...
I can't get Sky atlas to show the image, I notice that your directory in options shows the last word as Repository. Mine doesn't have that word, if I add it ...still won't work/ what can it be...thanks
Hey Ronald, you do have to download the sky atlas onto your computer, then tell NINA where it is. Once that's done it should work. Let me know if you have any issues finding it... Clear skies!
Those pegasus power boxes are so expensive!!! I bought A J5 create 7 port USB hub and Ran 1 long wire to my laptop and have 7 USB 3.0 ports that are even able to power dewheaters for 32 bucks. I used 4 non damaging sticky wall hanger backs( just the tape) that have double sided adhesive, able to hold .5 of a pound each. Pegasus power box? Costs Over $250 usd.
No kidding. I found its inclusion a super- expensive and frankly unnecessary distraction in an otherwise wonderful tutorial. Same with filter wheels and focusers which I'd suggest should come rather later on given that most of us tyros are just getting started and don't have these devices.

Great video Matt, very well explained 👍👍
Will be an interesting series to follow along, thanks for making this
Thanks, Siegfried, glad you’ve found it useful! Hopefully the next parts won’t take too long to record!

Thanks, Rashmi! Appreciate the comment - working on Part 3 as we speak! Clear skies to you!
Useful video, thank you

Awesome video. How does NINA compare to SGP? I’m trying to decide. I see people using one or the other. I subscribed so I can learn more
Awesome vid! As you're working remotely do you worry your equipment may get rained on without you noticing?

Great video thanks! I don't have filters or auto focuser yet. how to i focus my ZWO camera without one?
Great video series. Can you connect a dslr to nina?

Could you help me out? I have a GOTO mount and I am struggling to find a driver from my laptop to my mount. Any advice would be appreciated
What is your blue box usb hub thing?
I can’t for the life of me get my eq6 pro to connect to Nina. Which drivers do I need? Setup in eqascom toolbox? Then what?
How do you connect the Pegasus Powerbox to nina
