    I never cease being amazed not just by the incredible generosity you have shown by doing all these amazing videos, but also by the people behind NINA, who have produced such a powerful piece of software that they distribute at no charge! Coming from ASIAIR, which is relatively limited and has numerous little quirks, this is a revelation! Many thanks to you and all the NINA folks out there!

    Fantastic video Chad! I'm shocked I hadn't found your channel earlier but now I've got hours of catching up to do! What you're doing for the NINA community is enormous IMHO. These videos remove what were at times frustrating "research" tasks and turned them into a much deeper appreciation of the how/why of NINA. I can't say enough, thank you! Clear Skies!

    What an excellent video - the complexity of the imaging tab is a necessary consequence of its power and versitility. Your logical approach and simple explanation of each feature - with plenty of examples to illustrate your point - has greatly demystified it for me. You are my go-to NINA wizard :-D

    Another great video. You are spoiling us 😉 What does the x value mean following the Min and Max values in the Stats window?

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am planning on covering histograms in general in more depth soon but, since you asked, that’s the number of pixels that fall at that value. This becomes particularly important if you have a lot of pixels that are at the maximum value because it means you are clipping the brights… And if you have too many on the low-end then you are clipping the darks.

      Glad to hear it is helping. It is a difficult balance to both expose a whole bunch of features people didn't know existed AND try to simplify everything all at the same time. Maybe demystify is a better word than simplify in this case. :)

    Simple questions.
    1. How do you set camera chip size? For example, in Sharpcap, I can set frame 1920x1200. Here I set it during framing, but sequence started to capture full frames.
    2. I marked in sequencer, slew and center. It started from focusing. Do I need to slew, centered then start sequencer.
    3. Does it have capability of live stacking?
    Thanks
    Armen

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1: When you connect your camera it pulls that info in automatically. If you are trying to use ROI, there is a new advanced sequencer instruction that does this but I haven't used it yet. It is called Take Subframe Exposure and allow you to define an ROI as a percentage and it is relative to the center of the full frame. 2: Not sure i understand this question :( If using the Advanced Sequencer, you can order the instructions as needed. 3: Live stacking isn't 'fully native' to NINA. You can use the NINA PixInsight Tools plugin and a locally installed copy of PI to livestack in a NINA imaging window though. Or through folder monitoring use either ASTAP or Sharpcap to livestack locally. Or any other Live Stack option I guess.

    Excellent video. Wish I had found something like this when I started using NINA a few months ago.
    Couple questions: In one session this week, the guiding errors reported in the NINA guiding tab were about 4x the values shown in PHD2. In the next session they both agreed.
    Second question: The scales in the HFR history box appear to be set automatically. At some point last night the HFR axis was rescaled from 0 to 4 which made it difficult to determine the values and the trend. Is there a way to manually set the scales?

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the guiding scale question, I have seen cases where somehow (errant mouse click) the guiding window in NINA is set to Arcseconds while PHD2 is in Pixels (or the other way around). Basically, they don't match. Check that the next time you see this. For HFR, I don't think there is a way to force this. There are actually 2 scales (Left and Right sides) and each axis is selectable if you mouse over the windows you can see the drop-downs. Maybe change the axis definition to see if that helps, then swap it back?

    • @edhekman6615
      @edhekman6615 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PatriotAstro Thanks for the response. 1: Both were set to arcseconds. I assumed this was fixed in the next nightly build. 2: Tried changing the axis definitions and reverting to HFR but no success. Auto scaling should be sufficient if it works.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edhekman6615 The PHD2 thing likely will be corrected ver quickly if it is a bug since it is some thing everyone sees and notices during every session. Not sure on the axis definition issue. Maybe trying to make that tracking window a little bigger would help. It may be the logic that’s trying to auto scale and it’s running into a weird situation with your particular values and window size. I’m not really sure otherwise.

    Question: I prefer doing EAA (live, real-time) for my engagement in the hobby. So i’ve been using Sharpcap for real-time observing. Can NINA do real time adjusting of a Histogram while live-stacking and “save as seen,” or will it only show one subframe at a time? Thanks for your help and all the time you invest.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at this time. Currently, as of 1.11, it will only display the stretch but not save the stretch. It also doesn't do Live Stacking internally, and would require another application to perform the live stacking. I'll pass the info along to the developers though. Based on how aggressive the application development cycle was with feature enhancements when going from 1.10 to 1.11, not to mention all the plugin features that were developed, who knows what will come next! :)

    I've been trying to transition from APT to NINA for the last couple of weeks. So far I've only been able to connect my equipment successfully but could I not progress to actually imaging anything. Fortunately I've found your excellent NINA tutorials and now I'm making decent progress. Your combination of in depth knowledge and presentation skills are the best I've seen on the subject.
    One problem though; I did manage to ruin my imaging layout so I went to Options -> Imaging but the "Reset layout" button was grayed out. Any idea what's causing this?

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not certain. I may have to play with it myself to see when this occurs. Maybe it was actively imaging or something?

    • @PatriotAstro

      OK, i just tried it. It looks like you need to click on the imaging page first to initialize it, then go back to reset it. Maybe you restarted NINA but hadn't opened the imaging tab/page yet?

    As time passed, 2024 arrived, and NIN still didn’t have a simple algorithm - to shoot a panorama one frame from each installed plate in a circle and as many times as you indicate in the Progress line. Why then the Cycle and One after another mode? It’s a pity that this only works within one sequence, for example for mono cameras when shooting with filters, but does not work for different sequences when shooting a panorama.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are taking images directly from the imaging tab, you definitely need to click save. Typically, that particular element on the imaging page is used for test shots. More often, you will be using either the simple sequencer or the Advanced Sequencer to take your images. This will auto save the images during a session.
