Evan Carmichael I have only one problem with skill #7 is that not all people can control thoughts and change emotions because some people have mental illness like deppresion, anxiety, ect. Yes, it actually thous skills are important, but people with that illness have a lot of problems with getting thous skills.

Hi GLeb, I believe it isn't and easy path to follow for anybody. Some people can be affected by other physical/psychological pathologies and become depressed, anxious etc..
Mostly, it's a matter of "living the moment" and working with thoughts, eat healthy, exercise regularly and get enough sleep. All of this must be done CONSISTENTLY.
There are plenty of clicnical settings willing to help people with special needs.
      Hope it help.

1- Speaking up - public speaking
    2- Be honest with yourself
    3- Having confidence
4- Listening - be the last to speak, first understand what others are saying
    5- Managing your time
6- Stop whining (this is the one I struggle the most)
7- Staying present in the moment ( this is the one I think is the most important)
8- Being consistent - success is a journey
    9- Getting enough sleep
    10- Having empathy #BTA1

The skills that I most remember now are
    1) Learning to speak up
    2) Learning to listen
    3) Being confident and that confidence is something that we have to build
    4) Getting enough sleep
    5) Focusing on the present and appreciating what is there now instead of thinking of the future or the past
    6) Being empathetic
    7) Persistent work is what pays
    8) Managing time
    9) Stop Whining
    10) Being honest with yourself.

Yes, I agree. I used to be a treasurer on a few local clubs and often the treasurer]s report was the last on the agenda. I made notes throughout other peoples reports and when it was my turn, I could tell what ideas were good or bad and the reasons behind it. I found it helpful to be last to speak but also to have your notes and ideas written up in advance too.

    Thank you Evan!
What a great way to start my day!!!
As my mothers full time caregiver I am proud to say that I’ve achieved a respectable level on many of these points except sleep, but I’m getting there. I would add Balance to this list. By balance I would mention taking the time to take care of yourself whether it be through meditation, exercise, journalling our anything that makes you STOP what you do for others and take care of yourself so that you can continue to be your best self for the ones that need you most..I believe the best gift you can give to those you love is to take radical care of yourself so that they don’t have to worry about you. Thanks again! This video really gave me a great start to my “effective” day. ♥️🙏♥️

Time management (have tendency to wonder away)
Living in the past (letting my ex screw my future) is the hardest to accept
Consistency (I start something on my own but I don’t follow through)
I have faith in me that my successful and ambitious self stills lives in me.

There's one thing missing here - stamina. I have been quite close to be successful at more than one thing over the years, and i have most of the qualities in this VDO, but not stamina and that means I can;t compete with people who are physically and emotionally stronger than I am. I have learned to accept this and find ways around it. In fact I am respected in my present niche and earn quite well, but I will never be high roller. People talk about power as if it only comes from money and contacts, it doesn't, it comes from inside. Some people are like dynamos, tireless, unstoppable. They can make mistakes and get away with it, because they just keep trying. Other people are not so strong and if they try to copy high rollers they will get sick (many do just that). The same kind of people succeed, in sports, the board room, the army, music and all the other super demanding professions. My advice to anyone, is measure your stamina and then find your niche that allows you to progress without damaging yourself.

    • @aurelianspodarec2629
      @aurelianspodarec2629 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You want to choose power over money.
      With power you get money.
I think it's about beeing strong. Have confidence.
SOmewhat what you did say, you're limiting by saying stuff like "I will never be" - but in a way you have a point, but all of this you can do.
There are the right ways and the wrong way to go about this.
They are no strong because they didn't practice enough. I was weak a FUCK, with people and manipulated and stuff like that, with time, took me years, now I'm not.
So you're not out there, the 'damage' you call it, is where you should be persistent and go after this. You will get slammed, people will daut you, who the f cares.
You do you. You give up and so you die short.
I still have a long way to go, but it's not that I'm bad with girls for no reason. People that get girls every night have specific things, just because I might not be as confident or whatever near girls, doesn't mean I can't go there and or perhaps even learn this - because I can learn it anywas.
You don't measure your stamina, why waste time to do that? You rather want to improve your stamina.

    • @JohnDavis-qk7mt
      @JohnDavis-qk7mt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Justin Love you will never be a high roller if you believe you don't have the ability to be one.... you admit to accepting this as a unchangeable personal limitation due to stamina? there are many known remedies for fatigue, but to doubt your own ability is counter productive when looking for success!

Very few people have the strength to fight their way to the top, and if they try they will burn out. I have seen this happen many times, so nothing you can say will change that experience. This is something the self gurus refuse to admit, but everyone knows is true. Encouraging people to try harder is fine and they may they have some power they were unaware of, but if you have tried found your limits it is best to stick within them and be cool. Know yourself is the greatest wisdom and listening to others the greatest folly.

I loved what Robin said about confidence and Priyanka about Consistency...As my father used to say to me , way back when I used to flunk my Maths classes and used to hate math. My father had said "Success generates Interest! and to be successful you have to be confident and consistent, and once you succeed, the fear will banish and that success (however small it may be) will generate interest, which will kick off a cycle of success -> interest -> more success". And gradually I started to LOVE mathematics! Also, I loved the idea of being the last one to speak! Thanks for this video!

I agree. Managing your time is everything! Without time management it is impossible to get anything done. You can watch a lot of videos on how to be successful, but if you can't manage your time, forget about the advice you get from watching the TH-cam videos if you don't know how to manage your time efficiently.

It showed me what I have already down packed and what I can really start practicing more. Progress not perfection and I will say I won't be working on all of them all of the time because that's just not possible. To me a person who can't empathize would have a hard time understanding other peoples feelings. Having empathy makes you more open minded and makes you more grounded. Also it gives you a better understanding of other people's attitude and personalities and having that you tend not to create conflict with others. That's how I see It. Also having empathy your able to resolve things in a more positive way, instead of being argumentative.

Example of sympathy: A friend is going through a hard time and since it happened to you once you can relate.
If you haven’t gone through the same situation do all you can to understand what the person is feeling. Letting her/him know that you understand, with actions, emotions (affection). Its like feeling for others.
Thats the best example I could think of.

Thank you for your inspirational videos, Evan. I would have added, 'Be grateful and show appreciation to others'. I have practiced that in action and speech and you wouldn't believe how many people in 2021 have told me how positively my comments have affected them. Being grateful for what people do for us directly or for people in general is something that should be appreciated even if it's their job to do it. Many people are walking around believing that their life is worthless and their influence null. Not true. Put a smile on the face of someone who makes your life easier or more pleasant.
From this video, Evan, I would choose> 1. Have empathy 2.Stop whining 3. Pursue constant education and 4.Master computer skills (I was REALLY behind but finally just caught up via LinkedIn Learning). Have a great weekend!

All of the skills here are incredible and important - the public speaking one seems to be the most daunting for me, but the skill I suppose I most resonate with is the Listening one; listening to everyone, staying in background, turning things over in your head, and knowing more about the person speaking, and not drawing much attention to yourself. You're kind of invisible for a time, and when you're invisible, (it's always a good idea to be invisible, for me!) you learn a lot - you see a lot, hear a lot, and think about everything in every angle, point of view, which is a huge advantage, especially if you're accidentally caught up in a heated debate. Then when it is your turn to speak, or better yet the very last person to speak, you've already listened and thought about everything and thus have an idea of what you're going to say that will be agreeable to yourself and everyone; one advantage of the Listening skill is that you have time to turn over what other people think and say and then later start rearranging these in your head - it is still very much their own beliefs and in their own words, but you are redoing it in a way that it's to your own advantage; then when you speak, if all goes well, what you say will be agreeable to everyone... So yeah, it's the Listening one that resonates most for me, maybe because I could've been unconsciously doing it - the Empathy part is my favorite one, because to have that skill you have to be a genuinely good person to be a real empath. I have to work on the Getting Enough Sleep one, hehe... Being Honest With Yourself is not very hard for me to do - as for the Confidence part, I always manage doing so for the most important stuff - great video, I'm really delighted with the mention of Nelson Mandela! God bless~~~

All ten are interconnected. When someone is doing one of these, more likely he does all the other ones too. For example if you do not waist time, you are also are consistence, sleep on time so you would not be tired the next day so that you can stay in the moment . you would listen well. You would not complain or whine because it would be a waist of time.

This Whole segment was great!!! What an amazing collection of lessons... huge fan of all of these amazing thought- leaders. Meryl Streep's comments on empathy really hit home, and TD's message of time-management in regards to our creativity was a great reminder, that I'm gonna fulfill my dharma, no matter how long it's going to take. I am currently honing my life story into a cohesive Zen practice of empathy balancing, between self-care and allowing others to be seen/heard, it gets hectic at times. It's been a strange journey, 🤔 A lot of WONDERFUL moments of Joy n Elation mixed with a lot of n humility ❤ ... along with plenty of cringe-worthy mistakes and "omg, y did I say that"s. However, it's all part of the human journey!!! Live, Learn, Laugh, Cry.... rinse, repeat!!! Thanks for these reminders Dear Teachers!!! Thank you Evan n team, for the beautiful compilation 💜

Thanks for the response. I like your channel, your personal energy and commitment.
My experience has been that in working on concrete, tangible and measurable 'skills', ie. carpentry, writing, cooking, is where you begin to discover the limits of these 'soft' skills. You can't just have confidence. To think that one 'develops' confidence is illusory. You earn it!
You become confident through failure after failure, as one gets their hands dirty from the learning of the tangible skill. Failure is far more important than success! Success in this culture is measured on outward material rewards. That again is not 'confidence' that is Conformity. Living an unauthentic life.
These speakers evoke the 'great' people of the world, but these people all suffered. They went against the very system that the 'success' culture promotes. Their unique origin was failure to promote the the system's they lived in, which by design was, defined as success by the ignorant, conforming masses.
Nelson Mandela did not work on his 'confidence' in prison. He had a profound and painful spiritual experience of self sacrifice of all the shallow/shadow aspects of his character that 7 or 8 of these listed 'skills' promote. It is not so much the behaviours that I am attacking but the culture that is behind this vacuous pursuit of some preordained materialist perfection, brought on by the annoying and I argue shallow pursuit of 'success'.
Not the adherence to a moral code, no matter the cost, which is what all great people model! Then failure and the god of 'success' do not matter, what matters is your commitment to a moral life not success. Success in the end, is an illusion. It is predetermined by the culture which will never lead the way, but promote those thoughts that produce conformity. It just so happens our culture is shallow and material based. So all the heros they invoke would have been perceived as failures or threats to the cultures success.
    Cheers
    Dougie

I pretty much only sleep 3am-8am every day for the past couple months. I work during the day. Workout at night. Then work on my business after that until 3. I wake up every morning feeling as rested as i would if i had gotten 8-9 hours sleep

I think sleep the number of hours to sleep is so contradicting sometimes because its a necessity of the body. Not everyone's body is the same, people have different eating or dietary habits, as well as lifestyles some people lead more active lives while other have more sedentary lives. I tend to think this can and does greatly influence the number of hours a person will feel rested and is actually rested.

SPEAKING UP!!!! What a perfect thing to put on this list. This is something I have a very hard time with and have known for years that it is what makes me less valuable as an employee and really makes my work life hell, because I am never speaking my mind, and then holding resentments against management and saying how stupid everyone is (LOL) when I should've voiced my opinion on something. I just absolutely love this! I am walking away with this and it is changing my behaviour NOW! Thank you! 👍🙏🙏🙏

Being present in the moment , and getting enough sleep are the two things that I need to work on the most. I also suddenly visualzed myself journalling in bed at the end of the day, and so that as a time of power, whereas I always thought, getting up early and journalling in the morning was the more powerful route. But my morning journals were perpetually full of apologies and dwelling on the past. If I could flip the tables and turn journalling into a focus on possibilities, I think it could unleash power

Hmm... I think an 11th skill would be how to care for your body. How to eat well for your body. Sleep can only get you so far. You need to fuel your body in order to maintain the energy needed to be successful at what you're doing. (And even to be able to sleep deeply.)
Also, exercising. Some exercise will keep your immune system strong. You'll have better energy and sleep, and won't get sick as often.
And a 12th skill would be taking time for yourself to just relax. A lot of people don't even know how to do that. You've got to learn how to schedule your time so that you can slow down and mentally recharge. So many people just work, work, work until they're burnt out and and emotionally exhausted.
Even if you love your work, it's still for the use of other people. You need to do something that's just for you. Like going hiking, or reading a book, or playing a game.
These two points can be considered skills you need to learn, because they don't come naturally - or people have to learn them the hard way. I've watched it happen repeatedly to people close to me - myself included! Lol The demands of society train these good habits out of people in favor of the illusion that success means complete self-sacrifice.
But I think these skills contribute to a more effective life in which you can be more mentally, emotionally, and physically present while using the other ten skills.
I did really enjoy this video though. I don't find most self-help to be very motivating for me. But I did this one. It made me think. And I did notice some of these skills I have been unconsciously developing. The rest was very insightful and inspiring. Thank you for this video.

I've had to make positive changes for myself in the last few years just so I could carry on with my life and develop a healthy, positive state of mind in that process. What truly helps me get my day off to a wonderful start is before I even get out of bed, I take a moment to think about 5 things that I am grateful for. 5 things that are blessings which most people forget all about and take for granted. In doing this every morning, it helps me to set my intention for the day and to carry on with a feeling of gratitude, appreciation for all things and people. Its a wonderful way to change ones outlook about themselves and their lives. Thanks for the inspiring video Evan.

Hard does not so stop saying that. Many people were told if they work hard they will make it and they get burnt. It is not hard work it is WORKING SMART. TALENT DOES IT GET YOU FAR, BASED ON HOW YOU USE IT. TALENT COMES FROM LEARNING AND WORKING SMART. PEOPLE WHO ARENT ACHIEVING is manipulative the meaning of talent. You can't get talented without working smart. No one is born knowing to do anything a little good in a talented way, everything is learned. So stop making it like talent is born in people, it is NOT.

Maybe I can reach the masses by including knowledge gained thus far in/with my arts.
    3. Allow the empathy I hold back due to jadedness once again help me to patiently listen/hear, watch/see, ..,
