      Even if they don’t say it, sometimes they act like a troubled family or a codependent relationship. Nobody wants to utter real truths or criticism to management or "the boss", for fearing they "won’t love them anymore".

I would also extend this advice to include passing it forward. If you like the place you work at and the people you work with, to continue the positive work environment, with new people I try to offer my help as well (within reason, within my capacity, etc). We own a software company. Our server guy is autistic. And he dealt with it by demanding nobody bother him during his work. If anyone did, he would quit. If anyone lied to him, he would quit. I've tried very hard to make sure he knows how much I value him because he is amazing. He works from home, and we really do feel like he is family. No amount of doctor's visits, going on trips, or other issues will ever get us to fire him. I really do love him like a brother and would protect him with my life.

      get a bike or walk

    • @HybridAngel
      @HybridAngel 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joeh858bikes can be over 200 dollars for adults. If they can’t afford to get their car fixed right then, what makes you think they can afford to just- buy a bike on the fly if their car breaks down-
      Additionally, Chances are if the car broke down, you are either on your way, or were about to leave. Either way the average person walks at 3-4 miles an hour. Say you drive 10 minutes to work, that’s about an hour walk. (Speaking from experience). So say you leave 30 minutes before your shift starts. If you walk the whole way, you will end up being about 30 minutes late or more.
      That’s assuming the weather is nice. Because let’s say you DID have a bike even! If it’s pouring down rain, snowing, hailing, windy. Chances are by the time you arrive for work you will be in violation of the dress code! (Soaked clothes, messy hair, smeared makeup, ect). And you’ll likely still be late! (A 10 minute drive translates roughly to a 30-40 minute bike ride, again from experience) and it’ll be worse if you walk. Still definitely a chance you’ll get fired or reprimanded.
      So, in short, tell me you lack critical thinking skills, without telling me you lack critical thinking skills-

      Business English being a subset of academic English--it is, in fact, two different languages. That's why English language learners in American schools have such a hard time. They're learning both conversational English and academic English at the same time, and they need to excel in the latter to pass their classes. English is already a morass of weird grammar, spelling, and contradictory rules (ie, "I before E except after C, or when sounded as A as in neighbor or weigh [unless their height is weird]"), due to how many other languages it pulls from (without also teaching us the history/origin of the word in question), making it difficult to learn--especially since we don't use diacritical marks for some strange reason.
      It's also not just English. There are academic versions of French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Russian, etc., etc., etc.--but not Arabic, for some odd reason. Most language classes teach the conversational version of the language--unless it's an immersion school, which is basically what English language learners in US schools are dealing with. This includes students who speak AAVE at home, and those whose parents simply don't speak in academic English at home at all (my parents were both from farm families, and while they both graduated college, I don't think they even considered speaking academic English around the dinner table as something they should be doing to help their kids get a proverbial leg up at school).

If I never lie I never have to remember what I told you and what I didn't. So don't ask me a question you aren't prepared for an honest answer."
      They usually blink at me. I had one ask me what I thought of the secretary in the next room. "Cute, bit sexy really, wears way too much makeup and I bet she causes problems with the fact she has too many buttons undone on her blouse." The dude was legit shocked. The woman in the room looked just as shocked and blurted out. "What do you think of my outfit?" I told her it held business modesty while being modern enough to show femininity and suited her yet the jacket is what should probably be left off if she didn't need it as it was the only non flattering part of the dress/suit. Lady open mouthed blinked at me. Dude said I was hired. I no longer work there and they STILL reach out to me offering me contract work.

    Speaking from experience, if, at any time, from interview to termination, an employer mentions that the company is like "family", then gather your things, thank them for the time, and run. Run as if you are escaping from a cult.
    Because thats exactly what you're doing.

    • @misspriss2482

      Mmm. Not always. I work at a small company and they told me that they were like family. When my mother was dying from cancer, I was able to leave work whenever to see about her and my pay wasn't docked. When she was in the hospital and it was her last day, they came to the hospital and sat with me. Whenever I need to leave (furniture is being delivered, etc.) I can and they still pay me for that time. They insist that I take vacation and they pay OT and yearly bonuses. I've been here for over 9 years and have no intention of leaving.

    • @mjblcmichael
      @mjblcmichael 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @misspriss2482 Exactly. People are overreacting. Most companies mean your colleagues become "like" a family, not your actual family. It's not a cult-like behavior to say that most of the time. It can be a cult (like Amway), but it is usually said innocently.
      Some people interpret this as being your actual family, which coworkers/managers/CEOs are obviously not.

She is looking after my old mother who needs care 24/7. When will your kids or your secretary start their turn?" The boss was shocked and backpedalled quickly, that was not what he meant when he said family. My dad: "Then do me a favour and stop this bs."

This is a large factor why turnover within certain business remains high to the detriment of the worker, the customer, and to the company's bottom line which has yo coniniously pay for training new workers in a merry-go-round of employment.
