OMG I'm so excited that you finally got to be the daily celebrity on IntoBridge! That was so much fun. Hopefully you get more people checking out your socials. They should also invite you back for another celebrity appearance down the line. 😀 On Board 1, I also ended up in 3NT and somehow blundered my way into making the contract. I immediately tried to set up the club suit, which never did set up of course, and somehow their returns helped me get enough tricks in the other suits, especially spades. I was the only one at my rank to make it (except for one person who made an overtrick: go figure!) Board 2 bidding was bonkers. Lia totally overbid her hand. I tried to sign off in 3N... and then Lia bid 5N, "choice of slams!" After much deliberation, I went to 6D, only for Lia to raise to 7D! Grr... We luckily only went down 1 because I didn't get the heart lead (they cashed their spade Ace). Board 3 we tied, Board 4 I didn't bother with Stayman and just went to 3N and somehow made 2 overtricks, beating everyone at my rank! And Board 5 was flat. Thanks again!
I hope that they invite me again too! Making board 1 can never be a blunder LOL well done. Lots of people won the finesse in the N hand and immediately played a club up. The opps ducked! Clubs were 3-3 and they had enough entries to set the c up. And yea Lia seems to love their hand on every instance on board 2. I was lucky to not end up in 7 apparently...
You need to do more of these! Absolutely love the way you talk and explain while playing - if you made videos like these where you took your time a bit more than on these boards; goldmine for upcoming bridge enthusiasts!
Board 1: 3NT making. Won the heart finesse off the opening lead and immediately attacked clubs and East held up on the ace (probably to keep an entry to cash spades later). Led at the JD to force the KD and collected the heart return, unblocked spades, cleared diamonds, and forced the KS. Collected my spade on the return, cashed my heart, and surrendered the rest. Board 2: What a mess! I placed the contract at 3NT after 1S and Lia was having none of that and bid 4D. Lia bid a void as an Ace in RKC earlier in the day and I wasn't in a trusting mood so I passed the Slam try (and the Game). I know it was wrong but I'm finding Lia is out of its depth in slams. Board 5: I invited with 2NT and was punished. I think I could have made it but I pitched a club too early when I should have pitched a heart.
Aaaaagh! You guys! Playing the club up first on board 1 is so smart I should have won the q of h and played the club up only thing to play for this line also gives you enough entries! Nicely done! Board 2 truly was a mess! Hey you got a better score than me but Maria seems to have the lia touch! Board 5... I just despise 2NT.... I seldom bid it and this time it rewarded me!
great video! thx. on board 1, I decided it was a misfit hand and my KC was potentially worthless so downgraded my hand and passed 3C. went -1 which was better than 3NT -3. DD says 2NT makes but so hard to play! board 2, 6NT makes. after 3D, 3NT response is followed by 5NT pick a slam. 6NT makes on a finesse.
On #2 I'm not sure if you noticed 1S was natural as well as being GF, so no need for you to have a spade stop. I bid 3NT there and got to make 6 on a heart lead from the other side. However MJH and my mother both also bid 3NT and their robots pressed on with pick-a-slam so they got to play it in 6NT, same lead. Congrats on being the celeb!
On #2 I think you missed another play. If you rise with the A, then play !CA (crashing the king) you can make a trump finesse for the !CQ, throwing your heart loser, can’t you? Now, which finesse is better could be argued, and would probably depend on the defenders - do they underlead kings against slams?? I think most wouldn’t. In this case though it wouldn’t matter since the !CQ is with east …
Good idea! However, it doesn't work because even if the finesse was on, they could just cover the j with the q and then you have no entry to get back to the clubs that you just set up.
Hey Kai…..great to have u on board …. On board 1 I managed to make 3nt by setting up the clubs and managing my entries well to do that…..can be defeated of course …….. on board 2 I did bid 3NT over 3D …….sounds good? Do you think I beat you then on that one? Think again……..the robot duly raised me to 7NT ?? …..and very shortly after that I was doubled down 2!!!!!
Hand 1. While felling the TC would certainly provide lots of tricks, isn't that pretty unlikely You need 4-2 clubs and only 1 in 3 times will ti be doubleton. I think tis is about 15%. Instead, why not just focus on diamonds and hope they are 3-3, which is something like 35%, if I recall. I know playing for down 2 feels wrong and in IMPS your play looks great, but here the percentage play seems to simply be better. BTW. I was surprised the Robot jumped with the Ac. If you have Qxx in clubs, that is going to look really, really stupid. Any comment on that defense? It works well here for East, but is it the right defense and why?
People did make this contract when they won the QH in dummy and then immediately played clubs up. Which I think is the proper line. In this case you have 4 entries to set up your club suit. In this case the robots decided to duck the AC. Whereas if you go too slowly, the robots are able to gather more information. They probably deduced that I don't have qxx of clubs because if I did I probably would have immediately played on clubs instead of diamonds. I think that they also become a lot less worried about the clubs when I remove my entry in spades and in diamonds early. Furthermore my spade play implies I am not worried about the spade suit. Playing on diamonds shoes interest in setting up diamonds. They may have been able to count out and determine that I have a singleton in clubs. Lesson is make them guess it earlier so that they have less info to work with.
Hand 2,. I think 5D was a bad bid. Your partner has extras and you have no reason to fear NT. I suspect partner will raise 3NT to 6NT, which is where you belong. As for 6D by the robot.... Why? Seems like 6NT is better, but as it turns out, 6D is the right call because only you can make 6NT on a heart lead.

My thoughts exactly!!! Glad we are on the same page and thank you for your confidence!!
enjoyed your peppy analysis
Thank you! It may not be the best analysis, but I try to make it entertaining!

I also snuck a trick in the CK preserving the entries to get club tricks, as it was 33.

Yes I made because the first club was ducked as well….the defence needs to take it (not clear though)
on hand 2 6NT is cold played from your hand.
True!
good video as always. have a nice day:)
Right back attcha!
Thanks! After 3NT (2nd board) partner bid 5NT pick a slam, and 6NT made.
I had the same result/comment

Wait, but my heart finesse was off... Did they duck a heart?
