I had a feeling those weapons were for the witch! Thanks for confirming, and for the shoutout. Incidentally, not long after Eric and I were brought on via a work-for-hire contract in January 2016, there was already talk on the Mattel side about doing the mummy and magazine-colors Karg AT Mattel, for 2017. In fact, Mattel are the ones who named the mummy "Wrap Trap". I think this was when Brandon was handling a lot of the heavy lifting on the line, before the eventual hand-over to Super7. As I recall, Super7 then used some of the lineup plans that had already been set in motion at Mattel. Now, I don't know what the workaround was for Wrap Trap. It might have had something to do with the archetypal nature of an undead mummy, along with the fact that Mattel already owned the Horde logo. That's my guess, anyway. With Karg, I know you said you had asked before, but they apparently lightened up with regard to the magazine loophole because he was already in the cards during the 2016 plans for 2017. Brandon really wanted to make magazine Karg happen and pushed for it, prior to Super7 taking the reigns. I just remember being very excited upon hearing that we were getting both of those characters, and that I'd be able to write creepy bios for them, which I did when Super7 finally made them. As I recall, Dylamug, Lodar, and Granita were also on the list before the jump to Super7. With that in mind, and knowing the mummy was going to happen, Eric and I made sure to work Sultra into a few of the bios, using your established idea that she was a former Horde witch as a springboard. We hoped that she too would get a figure, much like Wrap Trap did. Ah well. Anyway, apologies for any derailing of discussion, but thought I'd share my recollections here. In any case, I'm psyched that we got the mummy, and I have a hexcellent Hunter Knight custom of the witch too. Those purple & green weapons look perfect with her!
My guess, Mattel wasn't paying attention to Super 7's character selection and didn't realize they were working on a toy that Mattel did not have rights to.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
Oh man, your Sultra explanation makes SO much sense, Scott. Also, the explanations for all the choices behind the Weapons Pak. Wondered for years about some of this stuff, haha. I am now genuinely enlightened, so thanks for that!
Great video! Thank you! I loved these Weapons Paks. I wish management hadn't decided not to make any more. There was so much more I would've loved ot have seen. Faker armoury in magenta. The remaining Castle Grayskull wepaons in rusty silver. Magic tomes. Power Sword case from the MYP cartoon. Snake Armour He-Man shield. Grey weapons from the original Weapons Pak. Dark green Beast Man whip. Castle Grayskull Man's sword in grey & silver. Vintage-style "bloodshot" Mantenna eyes. I think I had four or five Paks' worth of stuff thought out that I would've bought, had it been made.
One very important Weapons Pak question isn't answered yet: why didn't we get a magenta armor and weapons set for Faker like in his vintage cardback cross sell illustration?
I must say the black Optikk weapons work perfectly for Kronis. Even more than the first sword and shield from the other pak. That’s the way I display him and I love him.
Love that Wrap-Trap was made because now we have Evil Horde versions of all the “Universal Monsters” Hordak=Dracula Grizzlor=The Wolfman Leech=The Creature Wrap-Trap=The Mummy Modulok=Frankenstein Monster Mantenna=Metalunan Mutant The last 2 might be a bit of a stretch but I like the idea Please make more Weapons Pak videos BTW you have sexbots commenting What’s up with that 😏
That's exactly how I think of them, too! The only "big" universal Monsters I think they're missing are The invisible Man and Quasimodo. I always considered Modulok both Frankenstein AND Frankenstein's monster combined.
Beedo Sookcool well I always considered The Mutant, The Hunchback, and The Invisible Man kinda second string monsters, I just tied Mantenna to The Mutant because he was one of the original Horde. It would have been cool to get a transparent Horde action figure thought
@@oldschooltommyim Yeah, you have to account for Mantenna, and as a bug-eyed insectoid alien with a disturbing mouth, the Mutant is a perfect counterpart.
Beedo Sookcool yeah Hordak, Grizzlor, and Leech were obvious and now with Wrap-Trap it makes it even more so, I didn’t think about the influences as a kid it eventually came to me but being a big comic fan I was keenly aware of the Kirby influences in the main line. They didn’t seem to push it much but it seems The Evil Horde had old school sci-fi horror movie theme to them, the Slime Pit was like the Blob and Body Snatchers in one, killer robots, Hordak even had a giant Preying Mantis he could ride.
@@oldschooltommyim Heh. Throw in the gorgeous women hybridised with vicious predators, and the Horde is practically a walking collection of MST3K episodes!
Awesome! I wish somebody with your eye toward modernizing nostalgia worked at Hasbro on the Classified Line. Now the figures are better, but the first year was cringe worthy, mostly. I heard you say "spear" for King Roland, "spear and magic helmet" flashed through my brain. Thanks again!!!
There was a video you did that had a shot of a pile of all the different versions of the power sword, there was a translucent red one in the pile. Who did that come with? I recognized all of the others but that one was unfamiliar to me
Really enjoying the behind the curtain info from your videos. I'm fascinated more with the production since I design and machine my own injection molds for reproduction toys. Can you share any info on how the tooling was designed and the manufacturing processes?
Haha, I had Snake mountain, castle gray skull and eternia play set and so many of the figures. These videos have been really insightful and educational about the toy industry.
You never did the food pack, or the Price Adam room pack, or the beauty Teela pack, or the Man-At -Arms junk yard pack. What happened to those? I was waiting to get some junk food for Adam, the tool box for Duncan, and the hair dryer for Teela. I was so sand, now I have to steal those pieces from other toy lines, and some of them are the wrong size. (LOL)
i have no idea how the toy industry works, so this is probably a very basic queston. When you say tooling, you mean like a mold for each toy/accessory?
What i liked about this pak, is that with the predominantly gold/bronze and black, it made the orange, purple and green really pop! Color wise, i think this pak feels more unified in a design sense then the others. As an example, i wasn't a fan of the clashing colors of the Weapons Rack. Though i appreciate getting the maroon colors, i lament that we never got the full set of Castle Grayskull weapons in a single color. I think once you got more tooling library, (especially for more unique items like kowl) the idea of a unified color theory for each pak was lost...or it just may have been a happy acident early on? Eaither way, i always liked these relativly cheap add ons as it created so much play value, er um, i mean "Display" value. Yup, yup, yup. "Adult collectors" dont play with toys nope, nope, nope. 😁😅 I hope mattel revives this for Origins. I loved the original as a kid. Really helped the princesses fight in that rebellion back in the 80s. It was a shame we didn't get more back then.
The witch and mummy characters are a bit too specific for my taste. Much like Rio Blast and Ninjor, they seem too earth based and specific earth character/types.
@@spectorcreative1872 Yes but the barbarian theme is the roots of the franchise. Having a witch like Evil Lynn with her own unique look works. Having a witch that looks like a stereotypical halloween witch, not so much.

Outstanding! Love all this behiind-the-scenes info!
Thanks for all of this, Penny! You and Scott are shining a light into all of those dark corners of Classics history today, haha.

We could have kept these going for a long time I think!

PlanetEternia because you got pink Zodac gear 💁
In time we likely would have gotten to this
As a parent (and a big child), accessories have a magical way of disappearing or ending up in the box of mysteries.
I keep a baggie just for lost accessories so I can ideally one day reunite them with their owner

Yeah I love how those work!
Getting these extra accessories was one of the most fun parts of MOTUC for me.
That is awesome. A lot of love when into this pack
Well, that finally explains that color choice for Evil-Lyn's weapons.
Glad I could help!
Another great video! I really like to get the inside scoop on these paks and the figures
Thanks
Well thank you so much!
Love that Wrap-Trap was made because now we have Evil Horde versions of all the “Universal Monsters”

Grizzlor=The Wolfman

Might be a custom
Knock off/bootleg from Mexico possibly?? There were bags of like a hundred vintage swords in different translucent colors.
Very informative video thanks. I was really hoping to see the Snakemen staff repainted for Kobra Khan but didn’t happen 😄
Oh that might have been really cool. Hear that Mattel? Make it happen!
Superb

I miss Tomarts. Not as much as I miss Toy Fare, but still.
Me too.

You still have this figure colection?
My MOTUC? 100%. I have every figure plus doubles if they came with an extra head.
@@spectorcreative1872 I also have the MOTUC but just de Mattel ones, not Super 7 (no money or space at time)

That would be very cool
