    I have one for a 'user' and really like it. Smoothed out all the blade corners a little and it has a really good feel to it. The spring is plenty strong, great pocket knife.

    No lanyard hole on the Tern. I might have to try it out. I like the half stop. I typically carry a Dragonfly2. I like the FRN on my DF2. Now its a toss up between the Tern and the Robin 2. (I can legally carry a lockback) Thanks for a great review.

      I am envious! I saw the Robin actually, looks half decent, you can't go wrong either way sir! Cheers -Al

    Nice review. If this Byrd is the same size as the Urban and if it has a decent steel for £40 is an absolute bargain and a GREAT alternative to those that can’t spend the additional money for an Urban. 👍

    I wish they made the tern with different colour scales. I’d love to see orange, blue, maybe pink 👍

    Talking of budget kit..... I'll just got a ruixin pro Sharpener from Ali Express which is a new copy of the apex pro, with diamond stones for less than £50, and it's pretty damn good!

    Where do you buy the Benchmade knives? I thought those were illegal to buy and own in the UK.

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Heinnie haynes, what gave you the impression they were illegal to own?

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Locking knives aren't illegal to buy and own here! That would be absurd as then we wouldn't be allowed fixed blades either, so how do you think people at home would cut carrots?? Locking and fixed blade knives however are illegal to carry ''without valid reason'' e.g. you need them for work. But there are lots of things that everyone has at home that would be illegal to carry without good reason, for example if you went to the pub with a claw hammer in your pocket that would be illegal.
      Flick-knives, spring assisted opening knives, and gravity knives are the only ones I know of which are illegal to buy and own here.

    Wow, they still make these? Great to know, I really like it and think it's one of the best Byrd ones. Mine is from way back when they just came out (oh God, has it really been about ten years now?), and it has t8 for pivot and spring, but t10 for the clip screws, also "China" on the blade is about twice as small

    Whats would recommend this or the crkt pilar ?

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a hard choice, either is really good and the blade steel is identical and both have G10 scales, whichever you prefer the look of I'd say.

    Thanks for this review.
    I ordered a Byrd Tern and also a Sypderco Urban Lightweight Heinnie Haynes edition.
    My tern has a different blade, same steel, but the tip is thinner. Also “china” is now small!😁

    • @jjgkicker
      @jjgkicker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the terns half stop is much weaker than the Urban lightweight

    The price of this has soared, on Heinnie

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The prices are going up everywhere, I paid 50 for mine a couple of months ago but now cyclaire knives have them back in stock for £44.99 with free delivery, that's the best price I can find here in the UK. However I went on to buy a Spyderco Urban for £73 from flashaholics and carry that now a lot more, it has better steel, thicker blade stock and stronger backspring, so I don't carry my Tern much any more although I still like it.

    Some people put a lanyard on the top of the wire pocket clip.

  • @drengskap
    @drengskap 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have the Byrd Cara Cara 2 and the Meadowlark, both with stainless steel handles - great blades and i use both knives a lot, but the lanyard holes are so badly positioned that they're useless. They may as well not have bothered putting a lanyard hole there at all - and it seems that with the Tern they didn't ;-)
