    I've gotten a lot of questions about how I get my video "look", why I make some 4:3 videos, etc. so I thought it was time to finally answer. Here's my process for creating videos inspired by the 80s and 90s in the modern day. Sure, I'd record VHS tapes of every video if people would watch that, but I have to compromise.

    Loved seeing the behind the scenes process! Your videos have always had such a distinct look/feel to them, and its great to see the intentionality behind how that came to be.

    Fun video, thanks for the tips.
    Though being honest I would have been able to enjoy it much more had you enabled TH-cams "Paid Promotion" setting on the video.
    I see you have disclosure in the description but many folks (including myself) don't often start with checking the description, it's one of the reasons they have the handy icon that appears in the top left on the video at the start.
    Not interested in surprise advertising.
    (My apologies in advance if the setting is on already and for whatever reason it just wasn't appearing for me)

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It’s disclosed in the video itself verbally and visually, and in the description. Toggling that box would have zero impact on your enjoyment of it
      No surprise about it when it’s clearly disclosed before you get to the core content of the video.

      @@EposVoxThank you for your reply and for clarifying your disclosure practices. I appreciate that you're using multiple methods to disclose sponsored content - that's commendable.
      To clarify my initial comment, I wasn't suggesting that you weren't disclosing the promotion at all. Rather, I was specifically referring to TH-cam's built-in "Paid Promotion" feature, which adds a small icon in the corner of the video from the very first second.
      While your current disclosure at 0:49 seconds is relatively early, some viewers (like myself) appreciate knowing about sponsored content immediately upon starting a video. The TH-cam feature provides this immediate transparency without relying on viewers to read descriptions or watch for a certain amount of time.
      I respectfully disagree that it would have zero impact on enjoyment. For me, and possibly others, being fully aware of upcoming sponsored content from the very start does affect our viewing experience. In an age where advertising is increasingly pervasive, I value the ability to make an informed choice about whether to engage with content that includes advertising before I begin watching.
      The TH-cam "Paid Promotion" feature allows for this level of immediate transparency, which is why I suggested it. It's not about questioning the presence or timing of your verbal or visual disclosure, but about providing viewers like me with instant clarity from the first second of the video.
      I understand that content creators need to balance many factors, including advertising, to sustain their channels. My feedback is meant to be constructive and to share a viewer's perspective on how these practices can impact the audience.
      Thanks again for your content and for taking the time to respond to viewer comments. I hope this clarifies my point of view.

    Hi Epos! Have you considered going back to mft for native 4/3 open gate video now? Or is there more advantage to being able to crop the 16x9 video from a full-frame sensor since you mentioned panning?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah I mean, I never want to leave full frame and I have so much more information on my 17:9 8K full frame captures and cropping than MFT 4:3 could ever give me lol

  • @Kumimono
    @Kumimono 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Props, for merely using the TH-cam built-in 4:3 resolution. Seen way too many old videos, with just bars on the sides for 16:9.

  • @namuzed

    The funny thing is that fake VHS effects sometimes _seem_ more real than actual VHS artifacting. Our brains are expecting certain things that just weren't common on most properly recorded tapes.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I usually attribute that to just people who had very minimal exposure to the thing thinking some random artifact is proof of something being “old.” Like the trend of tiktokers suddenly using a slow shutter snoricam look and calling it “nostalgic” when there’s nothing for there to be nostalgia even associated with that effect

    There's something that I've always wanted to see, but I don't know how easy it would be to do because of the older tech it would require. I don't want to create damaged VHS effects. I want to create perfect condition S-VHS and early 2000s MiniDV/Digital 8 effects. I would like to see a direct capture from a high-quality consumer or prosumer S-VHS camcorder without being recorded to a tape first as well as a recording to a good condition S-VHS tape so I can get a sense of what the sensor quality is vs the actual recording quality (both using S-Video), and the same with the digital camcorder, preferably recorded off of the firewire output. I'm tired of people thinking that VHS or 90s/2000s digital looked like garbage, when what they are seeing is a low quality ELP VHS recording that has been captured using a garbage capture device and uploaded to 2000s TH-cam at 144p and redownloaded and uploaded so many times that it's completely fried.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      TBF most of the sensors were still garbage. I record S-video straight from hi8 camcorders all the time.
      Can’t really do live FireWire captures unfortunately, but s-video ain’t much worse when processed well
