    Hi! I realize this is a bit of an old video but was hoping someone would see and answer.
    I recently got the 15 inch Lenovo IdeaPad 330. I haven't taken a look inside it, but the specs said it had a 4GB "Soldered in" RAM with a free port for RAM.
    Now, my question is - if I wanted to put in 2 8GB SODIMM sticks I already have, can I remove that soldered in one and put in the 2 others? (One in the soldered-in-one's spot and one on the upgradable slot) If it is possible, I'll most probably take it to a professional with the right tools (would get my opinion there but can't cause worldwide lockdown) instead of just ordering a 16GB online now.

      Hi, Avid Gamer,
      While it looks like the soldered-on DIMM stick might be serviceable on certain models, it may require some work, and might void your warranty. Below, I've included the page from Lenovo, if you've gained, have, or know someone who has the expertise to change it out. Changing out the pre-soldered RAM may ultimately require soldering new memory (HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED). Here's the manual link for IdeaPad 330-IKB (81DE):
      pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/330-15ikb-type-81de/81de/documentation/doc_userguide
      It's under: Knowledge Base and Guides>User Guides>Hardware Maintenance Manual - Notebook. I hope that helps you some. .

    Hi, would you happen to know why my Lenovo doesnt detect the 8gb slot i put in it? Im sure I got the right ram right (i think) which was 8gb SODIMM DDR4 2133mhz.
    Weird thing is when I opened the laptop up, it already had an 8gb stick but when i check on the laptop it say 4gb 1 of 2 slots.
    So basically I now have two 8gb rams and tried both but still doesnt show up.
    I'm guessing the slot isnt recognizing the slot 2?

    Hi, I don't know much about computer internals, but on other websites, it seems like this laptop has 4gb soldered ram and an additional dimm slot, is your laptop different? Specifically the one Walmart has on sale for $279.99 i am interested in, could you explain how to add the additional dimm RAM? Would it be easy? Could you link a good dimm RAM, 4 gb or so? 8 gb total is enough for me

    • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
      @LaptopReviewsDotCom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RAM was not soldered on, it was just a single slot for RAM that has a 4GB stick. It could easily be replaced with an 8GB stick of RAM. The video shows this single slot stick of RAM at the 2 minute mark, check it out, what you see there is what you get when you buy from Walmart like I did.

      Yes, I didn't do this myself but you can buy a caddy such as this one amzn.to/2RUjh6d and then put an SSD in there. Be aware the optical drive in the IdeaPad 330 is a 9.0mm size so make sure any caddy you get has the same clearance, many are 9.5mm and so might not fit.

    • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
      @LaptopReviewsDotCom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 4GB is not soldered, there's only one open slot so you would have to purchase one 16GB stick of RAM and swap that with the 4GB stick then just get rid of the 4GB stick (or use it somewhere else, give it to a friend, sell it to someone). The problem is 1 x 16GB stick are very expensive, well over $100 amzn.to/2PNgFFG

    • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
      @LaptopReviewsDotCom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is prudent to disconnect the battery, but also somewhat challenging if it's an internal battery. Do make sure the laptop is completely powered down, you are grounded and have touched a grounded metal object prior to replacing RAM (this will discharge any built-up static electricity from your body). It's a good idea to power down the laptop and wait at least 30 minutes for voltage to dissipate from the laptop. I'm not sure what you mean by type of latency Lenovo puts in their laptops?

    Hey, for replacing ram or for replacing hard drive with ssd, do i really need to go to boot settings and turn off internal battery before doing it? The manuals for the product also say to remove these "FRU" parts, saying stuff like remove case, remove battery, remove network card in order before you can remove the RAM or hard drive. Do you know if this is really necessary, or can I just remove whatever I want?

    • @LaptopReviewsDotCom

      Well, I'll be honest, I didn't go into BIOS to turn off any internal battery if that's in fact what it said. I have no idea why you'd need to remove the the battery and network card to get to the RAM slot. You do have to remove the case and optical drive just to get inside the laptop, but that's it.

      It should help some yes, just remember the CPU will reserve the dedicated space you allocate for the integrated graphics and effectively reduce the amount of RAM usable for the rest of the system to 14GB, which should still be more than enough.
