    Thanks to whoever posted this tribute. I met Mr Balthrop at the Starving Artist show in San Antonio and enjoyed chatting with him. We have four of his works and enjoy them to this day. He was very accommodating and even sent a number zero print of Native Dancer when we requested it by mail.

    Excellent demonstration, by the way. I'm sure the kids will be psyched to make their own boards. Wish I had something like this when I was coming up.

    used to work in a boat shop we used a scrap piece of hose to listen for the air leaks when laying up stringers in the bottom of the boats. Worked well

    Nice video! What do you think about Roarockit veneer and glue?

    • @valkillmore847
      @valkillmore847 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their veneer is really good stuff. I have never used their glue tho. I always use the professional sk8 glue.

    • @mrs.869
      @mrs.869  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They use proper Canadian maple veneer. You can't get much better. I've used the titebond glue for about 15 years now and it's never failed.

    Ok so the question of million dollars is there a way to make bags that can be use to make boards with the hand pump with the laminate. your pump method is so effective but the cost is not that much if we can use a hand pump on your method it is very useful and effective

  • @KesicMilos

    How much glue do you use per deck?

    • @dubcoder
      @dubcoder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you roll decks by a hand roller you can typically get 6-7 out of a gallon. With a glue spreader you can get about 8-9. Contact Dub PRess Distribution if your looking for the wood and glues.

    Tell me what veneer can be used instead of canadian maple?is there an alternative?

    • @mrs.869
      @mrs.869  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are many alternatives, however, Canadian/North American Maple has some of the best properties for skateboard performance (i.e. durability, flex, weight, pop, etc.).

    what is the tool which you suggested to use to route the edges of the board called?

    • @mrs.869
      @mrs.869  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A spokeshave. We use it to remove the bulk of the edge material then sand the 'rounded' edge shape with Emery roll sandpaper.

    way too much work, get a hydraulic press man, they work way better. I wouldn't trade mine for the world :)

    • @mrs.869
      @mrs.869  7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Thats true - and we do. However, the program we run allows the students to design their own unique skateboard shape, size, etc. They CNC machine the jig to suit from recycled EPS foam, then vac bag the veneers to that jig. If we were to use a press, each student will need to build an individual press which wouldn't be anywhere near as feasible as using the EPS/vac bag process.
      Thanks.

    • @dustmote3550
      @dustmote3550 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so if you line up the glued layers of wood with the contours of the EPS foam
      inside of a vac bag, will the layers of wood conform to the contours of the EPS foam? or do you HAVE to use a carved/contoured block of wood? I like this method because it seems less expensive than a deck press.

    • @nyslut666
      @nyslut666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel you on the press, but Powell uses vacuum process. Can't be that far wrong. I would prefer a press, but dont have room so, until then I just have my decks made by customskateboards.com

    This is too much work for nothing...The glue will dry before you have the time to do all this, and then it will not bond the layers.
    There are many better faster and easier ways to do it. An unvarnished skateboard does not take more than 5 minutes to make.

    • @nyslut666
      @nyslut666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He is working in a 10 minute window to get it in the bag...Powell uses this same method.

      Too much for a small brain. This guy gave some good in-depth info that is much needed. You don't just slap some glue on the veneers throw it in the bag and viola!!! There is a lot of critical aspects to this that people don't understand in would generally just skip over therefore ruining the process of putting the veneers together correctly. If it's too much for you your brain is too small.
