    Great video! Cleaned my pads & rotor yet still it makes an occasional squeaking noise😢When 1 problem is sorted another 1 immediately pops up..like it has got a mind of its own.

    Thanks for making this video. 👍 My front brake has started making the exact same noise so I'll try your methods today. 😀

    • @gingerphil
      @gingerphil ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It worked!!! 😃 I didn't go as far as cleaning the pads as I didn't have time so I cleaned the disc with brake cleaner (the rag was filthy black after) then went over the disc with some wet & dry before cleaning it again. It's stopped that horrible squeaking sound like you had in your video. 😎 I'll still be booking the bike in for a service in a couple of months as although it's only 3 months old with 750 miles I bet there are various parts that weren't properly greased at the factory. 😉

    How do you manage the time spent in your full services inside your workday? I enjoy full service work, but, if I full service every bike, I would not be able to get all the bikes done (scheduled and walk-in), so I only do safety fixes and their requested fix, then add on preventive fixes if they agree. I want a one-day turn around. Thank you for showing your ethos.

    • @Bikespeeds

      Not every bike wants or needs the level of work we show on the videos, so like yourself we often do exactly the same as you. We have a very good pace & system that works for us. in general if we have parts in stock we run "In Today, Out Today" (our mantra) and managed this even during the busier pandemic period. How we manage it all I can't answer, but whilst I close the door at closing & go home at that time most days, if it means working till 2am & being back at 9am the next day, so be it. I've phoned many a customer at 8pm or so to say the bike they may have brought in at 17:25 is ready! we also have an online booking on our website where a customer can book a slot that gives them priority & we allow for these slots when planning the day out. One thing I do, do that I notice is different to most bike shops is I focus very much on repairs & servicing, Although I have new bikes, I treat them very much like an A board and put about 10 outside the shop so people recognise me as a bike shop, I don't place effort into increasing new bike sales they are too time consuming for us. building them, putting them out, selling them, warranty etc etc its not profitable for a smaller unit like ours & TH-cam featured bikes I always push for around a 1 week turn around so we can film them over several days if we need to pause to keep things flowing.

    I noticed you did not cover the brake rotors when spraying the bike with silicone. Doesn't that result in decreased braking power?

  • @QuietMikeW
    @QuietMikeW ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve had a noisy front rotor since day 1 even replacing the rotor and pads makes no change- it’s a tone/resonance sound. Could it be caused by the caliper somehow?

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be, disc brakes can become a real rabbit hole of replacing things to no improvement unfortunately🧡

    Is it normal that my brakes squeal/ howl under pressure? For example, when I am rolling down a steep hill and apply pressure on both the front and back they start to squeal and howl until I let go. Sorry if that sounds confusing!

    I have never seen a bike shop go into such detail, repairing everything you find?Do you ask customers whether they want each issue you find to be repaired or is that discussed in advance? What would a service like that on video cost a customer? Thank you

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Graig the customer asked us to fix the squeal, sort the puncture and service the bike.
      I assess each bike as it comes in and through experience have a pretty good idea what it’s entails and estimate accordingly. I also take a mobile number and if I do come across any additional problems I message with what I’ve found and quote for anything else.
      I’ve found over the years that customers who’ve used me regularly build up a trust in what I’m saying. My entry prices can be found on our website. The address is in our “about” link.

    • @craigwilson7219
      @craigwilson7219 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bikespeeds Yes. I did not mean to appear rude by asking about pricing. I am on west coast US and I am seeing more and more servicing and pricing that is based on the automotive repair industry model, focussing on individual procedures at a standard hourly rate, regardless of time actually taken, very little preventive maintenance, and often not addressing obvious problems or requiring a separate appointment for the work: not a holistic approach, as demonstrated in your thorough shop service. Thanks

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@craigwilson7219 I’ve always been too honest. I love the work & always feel money’s a by product. I have production costs on these videos and once I decide to video one, I loose money on the bike featured but have found it’s been great for my local marketing & we hope to grow the channel enough to eventually make it all worth while! Are you a rider or a repairer?

      @@Bikespeeds I ride, but I am starting to mech and will get some formal training soon. If I take business following that, I will take an approach similar to yours, focused on quality, satisfaction and pride of work. Money is important too, but is not the only measure of success. Until next time.

    my front disc brake has no squealing sound and works just fine, it's just that when i go downhill and apply the brakes, i get these weird rapid click/ticking sounds.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most likely the pads are very thin and the metal return spring between them is no longer sitting correctly and tapping against the disc. Quite dangerous if they suddenly catch and get caught up.

    so..do not ever switch your brake pads from to rear. bad idea as they wear different angles also cross conhtamintared the brake pads on the sanding machine. use only fresh new sandpaper then re insert to same wheel and in paper direction , dont flip them . pads only cost 12 euro a set. so get new ones if contaminated , contamination soaks into the pads , when heated with braking the contact,intion will re surface and squeaking will return .
