Patek has so many beautiful dials and cases; absolute classics! Many are tied to specific models with specific complications. While I know they never would, I wished that for every case and dial design they have that they would offer, in parallel, just a simple, three-handed version, no complications. Make mine a steel officer’s hunter case, copper dial, blued steel hands, indices, and dial printing, no extraneous stuff; just beautiful simplicity. Your admiration of PP, just like mine for over 25 years now, is very justified - and that’s coming from someone who, at best, only has luke warm feelings for the Nautilus and Aquanaut. To make a minute repeater sound like that when it’s been encased in platinum is amazing! That skeleton Cartier - gorgeous! There’s something very appealing about many of their models in general. They, just like Piaget, Chopard, and at least for me, controversially Bvlgari (I was a big Daniel Roth fan before Bvlgari bought and disbanded it), and possibly others, they are perfect for someone like me who appreciates an individual model over its brand name rather than the mindset of an elitist who would avoid certain models due to their brand name being tied to jewelry or something other than just fine watchmaking. I know you resisted me a few years back, but I think I was right! Red dials are on their way into popularity, and justifiably so! That Reverso is fantastic. If it were an automatic then I’d get it now. But for me, a manual wind simply isn’t practical. I cross 100+ time zones per month and don’t wish to hack, set, and unhack my watch 15 times every month, and so my watches stay at home on a winder. Yes, I know that’s controversial, but for me that’s just the way it goes. My SMP has remained on a watch winder since 1998, service’s only once, and has never missed a beat. I don’t think a high quality one does the damage a watchmaker would claim that they do. Grönefeld- wow! They, kind of like Dornblueth and RGM, will bespoke a watch any way a customer wants it. I love individual artesianship like that. Great show!
Oh yeah - and this was my type of show; one that was reserved for real connoisseurs! Today you avoided certain overrated mainstream bands who, while not bad, are continually held on the highest of high pedestals for inexplicable reasons other than best watchmaking practices. Avoidance of caving to hype - bravo to you for that!

My favourite as you may have picked up on over the weeks is that gold VC Overseas!!! My grail! And it looks resplendent in gold!

Oh Tim...that was too funny! Patek minute repeater vs FP Journe minute repeater. My wife listened to both and said that the Journe sounded like a bicycle bell while the Patek was amazing. Unbiased opinion. Patek is Patek for a reason. Those who would elevate Journe so quickly to Patek’s level should go back and listen. Journe sounds like a micro brand. Ben Clymer was correct when he said that at Patek’s strengths there are no rivals (paraphrasing).
That FP.J Octa Perpetual is the winner for me and it's funny that Cartier as a Jewelry manufacture has always done better in terms of size and design than 99% of big watch manufactures
Great selection Tim, love the 5078 MR. The FP MR comes off very second best when compared on sound, especially disappointing without using a different hour and minute chime.
Even more credit given to them in that it’s a platinum case. Many makers avoid platinum when doing a minute repeater because they’re unsatisfied with the sound coming from the platinum. PP tackles that challenge perfectly!
The FP Journe watches are undeniably beautiful but the Patek minute repeater is absolutely perfect and it is the watch I hope to own one day. Only another 10,000 cars to wash ;-)
I love how "deployant clasp, a rare feature on F.P. Journe watches" is made common on WatchBox. Can't remember the last time Tim has featured a pin-buckle equipped Journe!
So FP Journe makes 900 watches per year. In the last year there have easily been over 100 featured on watchbox, including 3 today. Either everyone hates their FP after they buy it, or something is not adding up
Tim, you finally wore me down 😉 The FPJ minute repeater and Gronefeld were the stand outs to me. I’ve always respected their horological substance, but the aesthetics on those two are starting to speak to me.
Great lineup. You made the right choice for the entry (Patek minute repeater) and exit of the show (db 28 diver). The omega speedy with the blue dial, the zenith el primero in gold, and the jlc reverse are great as well. And then there’s also the Grönefeld...
How much of Cartier's product output is watches ? Is the watch division seperate from the rest of the company ? For a company the doesn't solely make watches their influence has been profound .
I really love the look and design of the FP Journe dials and case backs but man they are so far out of my price bracket. Love the show though fascinating time pieces.

@@gmshadowtraders so true! One of my friends is one of only eight ‘Master Crystal Makers’ in the world. His amazing craftsmanship is being killed off by a generation who doesn’t hold anything material as being a valued possession. Heirlooms mean nothing to the younger generations these days.

I have yet to hear any maker do a minute repeater better than Patek. The tones, sustain, and timing between strikes.. just perfection.
