Those 3fe engines are easier to work on. No overhead cam gear to gear timing no chains cast iron head. 1fz-fe aluminum head dual overhead cam a nightmare to tear down, for 50 extra hp. i have owned both and kept the 92 3fe.
Keep it and build it! Super sick… I bought a 98 4Runner last year with the same desire as you. Single dad with 2 young kids, so finding time to build is challenging. Slowly acquiring parts and still excited for the days when I can go on overlanding trips with the kiddos 🤙🏼
