    Here is a great soil for growing citrus: amzn.to/2bKxq5H
    In this MIshort we will cover citrus care, and how to preoperly water
    your citrus as well as know when enough water is being given. We will
    also cover good soil for citrus plants. All of this should help to

    I think this is my exact problem (yellowing around veins, then leaf drop) and wish I had seen this first. The others said everything from transplant shock, a heat spell, root rot, grubs, zinc deficiency, too little water, lack of fertilizer, etc…and so tried to address many of those, but will definitely cut down on watering (watering twice a week).

Out of curiosity do you use a grow light during the winter or just keep your plants close to the window? I have a big south west facing window and wondering if that will be sufficient over the winter. Thanks!

    I learned that soil grubs from a beetle came due to my over watering (i was watering 1-2 times a week and soil was too wet) i bought a soil meter to test ph and moisture level and only water when it reads dry so I don’t over water the trees that are in pots and it definitely helped. My 7 gallon citrus trees probably only say its dry 1-2 times a month, maybe more… the sun doesn’t hit it pots so i think that is why it stays moist for so long. My 2 15 gallon citrus trees in pots that have more citrus and cactus soil in it tend to need water 1 time a week (it is continually about 100 degrees currently in California). When winter time comes i do not water especially if its the rainy season because it tends to be just the right amount of water to keep it alive for winter. My only question is when should the last fertilizer treatment be done? End of summer? Fall?

    Thanks for this! I realized I've been over-watering my tangerine sapling from this vid. No leaves have dropped fortunately so I still have time to fix my watering regime to suit my poorly draining soil. Though the soil is poor to drain I haven't noticed root rot. Would that happen to be right at the base of the tree? Or would it happen in the soil?

    I have a question: I have a 5-1-1 soil of compost, sand, and perlite, and I did a test to see how much water it would release. About half of the water ran through the pot and was collected, and the other half remained. Is that enough drainage, or is there too much water retention for citrus plants? Thank you

    My leaves a turning yellow at the tips then first then they eventually dry up and die. There’s also lite brown spots like when a leaf dies in the fall. The spots are dead leaf. My leaves are also curling under, I read that was under watering. I’m totally lost. My plants about a foot tall and the soil drains well and dries pretty fast. A week or two.

    I used Miracle Grow potting soil on an assortment of pot ornamental plants...killed or stunted them all. MG pushes to much nitrogen.
    My new mixture is 10% MGrow, 20% sand and the rest black dirt. I also use fish emulsion diluted 4 table spoons per gallon of water. When I use city water, I let it stand for two days to let the chemicals evaporate. I live in Gainesville Fl. Opinions appreciated

    Ok, I totally screwed up. I just bought two dwarf Citrus trees. A Valencia and Mandarin. I bought them from Home Depot in 5 gallon containers and planted them in 8 gallon pots. The problem I now realize I have is that I used regular miracle gro potting me. I did mix in some epsom salt and plan to add worm castings in a week or so when I can find some to buy. Should I pull out the trees and buy a citrus blend soil?

    I have a question that maybe you can help me with. I have one year old etrog citron and it's been putting out new leaves since late winter, but recently it has been putting out redddish leaves. It's not a scale or anything like that It's just that the pigment is red. Is this natural? The leaves are also growing in a somewhat irregular shape, but there are no signs of tunneling.

    I live in Arizona, as you know it's very hot and very bright and sunny.. my lemon and orange trees are outside, I have a half natural half citrus soil, soil.. now I read that I should be watering frequently, how should I really be watering the trees? I do it at night or early morning before sun rises high. but the heat and brightness I feel is to strong for the trees, I'd say they're adolescents, about 3.5 4 feet tall. some of the leaves are yellow, yellow in the middle and green on outside. leaves under other leaves are nicely green, healthy looking, and some leaves are dead, crispy brown from sun damage I believe.. can you please help me with how I should care and water the trees? please and thank you

    I am growing a Grapefruit tree from a pink Grapefruit in had, the plant is now about 8 inches. One of the questioning had was about root rot which you have clearly answered in this video, I had grown mine in multi purpose compost and have now mixed 50% sand to it, the leaves on the plant are curling, yellowing and dry, but the top set of leaves are looking healthy so just hope it will survive.
    My second question is that all citrus plants have dark green, glossy leaves. My plant does not have the traditional leaves as mine are light green and more of a Matt to the leaves.
    I have seen on the internet that there is many types of Grapefruit but can’t find one with leaf colour like mine so I am wondering if I am even growing a Grapefruit. The leaves of the plant are shaped like a Grapefruit though.
    Any help would be appreciated, and cheers 🍻 for the video upload.

I took the tree out of the pot and left it to dry out. Its not suppose to be this difficult...its a tree for heaven's sake ! Oh well. The soil doesnt feel like its sopping like i thought it would when I pulled the pot off. it has all the signs you spoke of for over watering. Its already warm here in the west, but I think I over watered my lemon tree anyway. How will I know when its dry enough? Will I get more blossoms or have I hurt the growth cycle for this year? Thanks for your time and insight ! : )

    I know this question doesn't pertain to this but do you keep your greenhouse up all year long? And how does it hold up in snow?

    1 question, do you put sand on the bottom of the pot or do you mix it with the soil??

    i decided to buy a thing called a Lazy Gardener for my navel orange and my Meyer lemon, i reviewed how they did on my channel. Surprisingly the self watering systems made such a difference in taking the guessing out of it a bit, but if i was really going to suggest anything then i would suggest getting a parriot flower power if you have a smart phone, and you like to know exactly when to water and fertilize. Once i got one of those for my Meyer lemon its been soo happy it is about 3 and a half feet in all directions.

    All the leaves fell of my little lemon plant. One day I moved it too close to the window, it's cold here, and the next day the leaves shriveled up and started falling off. I've been growing it since last summer. It's not coming back, right?

    • @MIgardener
      @MIgardener  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh no!!! that can also cause it. Lemon plants DON'T like to be moved. They in fact hate it! Especially near cold drafty windows.

    Do you have to prepare the plant before bringing it inside? Concern would be possibly bringing in bugs.

    • @MIgardener
      @MIgardener  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the time you won't bring in many. But the best thing to to is just to keep an eye on it over the next week or so. If bugs emerge then spray the soil with neem oil.

      Marlene Pisani 🤔I would make sure to prepare it by letting it know it’s going inside so it doesn’t say “hey man, whatcha takin me inside for?”

    If I grow citrus indoors all year, should I still cut back on watering them in winter? My mom always said plants need a winter-like treatment even if they are grown indoors all year, so I should cut back on water in winter. She grew GORGEOUS houseplants but never citrus or other types of edible plants (at least nothing edible was grown indoors).

    I'm on my 5th or 6th meyer lemon tree. Literally just bought a beautiful one full of flowers, leaves couple months ago. potted it up and watered it twice and it dropped ALL the flowers ALL the lemons stems rotted and drooped, now dropped every leaf except for like 3. I got mad and chopped the branches down to a third. I can't believe how crazy these trees are. OH MY GOD YOU WATERED ME I THINK I'LL DIE. like really??? total waste of hundreds and hundreds of dollars, meanwhile my bf's sister has a huge beautiful one. WHATEVS!
