Code Generator is a convenient way to access two-factor authentication codes without a mobile number. The tool will come in handy when you're traveling or don't have mobile reception. Code Generator is available inside the Facebook app for iOS and Android.
To access the Facebook Code Generator from Android or iOS, open the Facebook app, click the hamburger icon in the top right, scroll down, expand the Settings & Privacy menu, and select Code Generator. Here you'll see the tool run through new security codes every 30 or 60 seconds.

How can you open your FB account if you can’t open your account using Code generator? Can’t receive codes, but i can change password. It requires me a code generator, but in order to get a code gen. you need to open your account? 😅🤣🤦♂️
This method works when you try to open your Facebook from website , and you already are connected in the mobile.

Yeah hacker locked me out of my account changed my password and email. And to get back in I need a code generator only obtainable by LOGGING INTO MY FACEBOOK ACCOUNT. Facebook is a f******* joke.

This is not a fix. It is only how to get a code from code generator. You are miss leading people to think you are fixing their code generator problem when they can’t login.

Someone hacked my Facebook and changed my email and password last night and Facebook asked me for a picture ID and a new email to send me a code to change my password but every time they send me a code it has my new email at the top and the email they used at the bottom but I can’t see their email. When I try and out in the code it keeps saying unknown error I’m so annoyed by this

Thanks... for nothing. It's impossible to get to the settings menu inside of FB unless you are already logged in and have already input a code from the code generator which is only accessible after logging in and inputting a code that the code generator created. Only way possible is if you have another device that it has already been done on and never shut off or logged out of that device. In other words, you need a separate device dedicated strictly to Facebook use locked up in a secure location.

I'm not logged onto Facebook app on my phone either. ( I changed my phone). So while logging into the app it asks for a Login Code which i don't seem to have/remember. I can't open facebook anywhere as of now.

You assume I can log into Facebook on my phone, which I can't. I can't log into either the desktop computer and my android phone. So this is worthless.

There's not a menu button. It only shows the log in information nothing else.... My account has been hacked, I have emailed Facebook. Sent in my identity asking them to turn off the code generator and security key and no response. Please help, its been almost two months.

This is no help, I can't get the code if I can't get into my Facebook in the first place
I'm facing trouble to login in my Facebook account on my Mobile phone and other devices without verification code with Google authenticator as it was accidently uninstalled.After that I reinstalled unfortunately it doesn't work.I also tried many ways suggested by facebook help center none of those steps worked on me.I also tried to Login through my Gmail account and but it remained unsuccessful.
However, I don't have a copy of the authentication code provided by FB. Also, there are no other choices like sms authentication code or email. Only the Authentication app is re-appearing.
Will it still be possible to retrieve my FB account without Google authenticator ?

upd feb 2022: approaching facebook account recovery team and asking for proper temp security codes helped, ultimately

If you're trying to recover your account and can't get to cg that doesn't work you have to have a account first.
Here's the problem, I went off of Facebook app one day (never logged off) and went back on later that day, now I can't log back in because the authenticator code (which I downloaded so many apps to find) is not in any of them!! So I went to TH-cam to find out how to open my account back up and the guy is basically saying that the authenticator is in Facebook!!! Now how in the world am I going to get in if my code is INSIDE OF FACEBOOK???!!

3/5/2024 - I am not seeing the code generator option when I log into FB on phone. I was able to get back on the cell phone FB but not desktop yet.

Doesn't it seem like a conspiracy when 1) you are being asked to do something with a device, 2) the instructions seem simple, 3) when you follow the instructions, you find... a dead end, 4) you Google for more instructions and they lay out the same "simple" fix... that didn't work in the first place, 5) you start looking up discussions and find the same problem existed in, like, 2016... and none of those fixes work now.
First, the "code generator" is not under "settings and privacy". That's misleading. The generator, according to this video is found with the path: settings > account > password and security > two-factor authentication. But guess what? I don't have "Code Generator" on the list of available options. I have "use two-factor authentication" and "authorized logins". This kind of thing makes me want to beat the crap out of someone. Why does no one ever ... freaking .... address what to do when the item of interest is MISSING. I'm sure there's some other setting burried somewhere else to *enable* code generator.. but that's an adventure for another day.
