    2004 Grand Cherokee 4.7L. I located the proper size hose and cut the old one off. Still easier said than done. Getting the battery out of my way, made the job 1000% better. ArmorMark 50275 1/2" (12.7mm) heater hose SAE J20R3 made in USA. Got it at Autozone. I search all over the web for some type of hose lube, and the top ones were Vaseline, soapy water and spit / slobber. The spit worked like a charm. It slid onto the line with ease.

      I'd use motor oil, probably 5w-30 since that's what the 4.7L standard output engine takes in most weather conditions. 10W-30 if you live in above 100°F often.
      But the oil being rubbed around the gasket ring like you would an oil filter gasket ring should make it slip right in.
      Same thing I did with MAP/IAC Valve gaskets.
      I looked up the Jeep recommended replacement cycle for PCV and it's 30,000 miles. My 02 WJ is about 190k miles overdue, strangly enough it's still functioning.

    When you install a new one it helps to put alittle oil or a dab of grease on the Oring to help it slide in better without having to use a hammer or mallet

    Interesting design: it looks like they purposefully placed the notch in that position to make replacement as difficult as possible.

    The Rubber piece just ripped and crumbled into pieces as I tried to remove it carefully, Luckily I got some hose from AutoZone to replace it, but had to use clamps so it doesn't create a vacuum leak.

    A little vaseline on the outside male ends of PCV and on inside female connections make putting it on a lot easier so you don't break the new one.

    My hose broke when I tried to get it off!and appeared glued to the rear [tube].Must of been the original. Wondering if just the hose is replaceable now!

      I'm guessing you mean the rubber hose? You should be able to easily replace it. Try taking the old hose to your local auto parts store, I'm sure they'll have a same size hose to replace it with.

    can low transmission fluid cause stalling in the cold?

    • @ace_in_a_day8454
      @ace_in_a_day8454 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      low transmission fluid is a lot more noticeable in the cold on startup since the fluid expands when its near operating temperature, and the transmission wont work efficiently without the correct fluid temperature and pressure. the less fluid you have due to leaks or burning, the more noticeable transmission problems will be. if you ever noticed that when you first start it and start to accelerate in the cold and need to rev it up a lot to get it going, you may have a low fluid or worn out fluid condition. in that case you need to have your fluid changed

    So was the Jeep still burning oil after you changed the PCV valve?

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've always burned / leaked a bit of oil from that engine. Even after replacing the PCV valve. It was always small enough that I could just top it off between changes.

    will this be the same for a 2002 jeep

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only on the 4.7 engine. It should be in the same location, but the part number may be different.

    The internet can be confusing.....lol...I see several videos on replacing the pcv valve but google says this..."Jeeps don't have a pcv valve. they have a ccv system. there's no check valve, it's just an open tube. it takes clean air from the front of the airbox and puts the unburnt mixture back into the intake." ....🤣😁🤣 I know there is a pcv valve...my point is how lame the internet can be 😉

  • @IHRRABBITFOOT

    does that clogged pcv valve cause stalling? mines been stalling and rough idle

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DillonOnTheGo that rough idle and stalling is probably from a clogged throttle body and specifically the idle air control valve. I had my Jeep stall at stop lights about 9 months ago, took that off and cleaned it. Haven't had any issues since.

    My jeep laredo burned oil what can I do

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly depends on how much it burns. If it's just a quart in between oil changes, I'd just keep an eye on the oil level and top it off as needed.
      Also make sure it's not leaking somewhere. A leak could be easier to fix than if it's burning.

    • @yousseflahbil679
      @yousseflahbil679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Thomas it burned about 3 quarts do you think from Pcv value

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yousseflahbil679 3 qts between oil changes? so 3qts every 3000 miles or so? I doubt thats from the PCV valve.
      Sounds like there a leak somewhere. Possibly from the valve cover gaskets or main rear seal. Could be burning, but that seems like a lot of oil to burn.

      I'm going to change the PCV valve I don't think it will fix mine im not leaking under the car at all sometimes when i press the gas hard to move over a lane or something i see a lil smoke. so its being burnt. is doing the valve cover gaskets hard? I'm hoping i don't have bad rings..

    I'm curious what symptoms you were having when you decided to replace the PCV? Were you burning oil?

    • @sam_thomas
      @sam_thomas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had oil on the air filter. That's a sign that the valve is clogged.
      I've always burned a bit of oil on that engine. Even after replacing the PCV valve :/
