How to scan OBD-II Codes on a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • How to obtain the trouble codes from a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee without a scan tool. Note this procedure is pretty much the same for most OBD-II-equipped Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep products made after 1998. Use this procedure to help decide how to fix your vehicle, or as part of the process of deciding on a used vehicle purchase.

This was very helpful. I use this method on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Limited trim with the V8. No scan tool needed to see if codes are available. The scan tool is needed to determine what the codes mean in detail, but not needed to find if codes are there in general.

Thanks this helped i tried following the instructions in some other user forums and couldnt get it. It was a matter of doing at a faster speed that I was able to pull the codes! Much appreciated!

Thanks man for the trick, it helped me a lot! On my 2006 Grand Cherokee, I've just got the check engine light on and almost panic... 🤣🤣🤣 The code I've got is P0128, which is probably only the thermostat valve not working properly.

When I tried this, it did not work for me, it just reads what it normally reads depending on what I have it set on. Any thoughts? Mine is a 2007 Rocky Mountain Edition with just shy of 98,000 miles and my engine light is what originally came on. Thank you.

Thank you I just called Firestone and they told me that it would take 2 hrs to run a diagnostic what a crock of crap. I will do this when I get home from work

Thanks for the video! Now I know how to check for codes myself. I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee. The Jeep's manual tells you how to check if the computer is ready, for say, an emissions test, however, it doesn't explain how to actually check the computer. Thanks for telling me and everyone else how to do this! (:

It works for me with my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Limited trim. Mine has the V8. When you turn the key 3 times you have to do it at medium speed. Not fast. Just medium speed. I use this method all the time to see if codes are available without the use of a scan tool.

Geoff I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and my airbag light is staying on. I tried your trick, but I could not get the process to work. 1. Should this work for my vehicle and 2. will it give me a code for why my airbag light is consistently on? Thanks for your video!

My air bag light on my 2009 Jeep grand Cherokee also stays on I believe it's the clock spring that needs to be replaced.

dan SEKERAK lots of timed airbag lights (sensors) go on due to fuses being taken out which are labeled .. "spares" and they are not . Happened to me.

Mine does this usually after the engine has been shut off and then restarted typically within 20 minutes and move off, the transmissions go tight and it gets wheel hop if im trying to turn, if I'm on the straight and try to move off it culls the engine power and I can hear the solenoids the the transfer case and axles making the similar noise to the switching to 4low.
My symptoms improved when I replaced a bad wheel bearing - it's also worth checking tread depths are with a 1mm or 2mm of each other.

It's either the ABS sensor for the front left wheel or the front right wheel.
