Historically I have always wondered why concrete driveways were so expensive, but after watching your videos over the past several months I'm able to understand how much knowledge, skill and passion that goes in to your craft and now see the value. Thanks for creating such informative content.
STEVE, looks really nice, lots of prep, but great satisfaction when it comes out as planned! TOM, ... just remember, ...the sign of a good boss is when the crew says,... 'welcome back', because THEY can now relax a little! Hope the time away you had was enjoyable and restful! Now with that said,...'get back at it' !!! Lol
Ever since I’ve been following this channel, i catch myself looking at concrete… when I walk around our neighborhood, going to a store … there are so many crappy jobs done out there…haha. Hard to beat the high standard you guys show us every day!
This turned out absolutely amazing, I love that design! You got some good guys working for you, it's so difficult to keep good help nowadays and you got the cream of the crop. Definitely helps when you can see how you all love what you do, that's also the reason I do signs. Doesn't matter if you make a little money or tons of it, but if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life.
Hope your vacation was good and Steve poured one of the biggest basements I have ever seen and he and the crew did a great job. Good to have you back and the drive way looks awesome with the aggregate borders.
It’s interesting that exposed aggregate started with broadcast rock to ordering a mix. I did some exposure aggregate in the late 70’s. We would broadcast the aggregate then tamp down with a jiderbug. After setting up we would spray off the topping with a hose.
I watched this video today in my livingroom on the big TV. Boy I do like the aggregate! I remember the house a couple videos back, the nice house beside the modern style house. That was all aggregate and so beautiful! I'm glad to see how it's done. I was really dumbfounded until I heard it will be pressure washed, still wasn't sure cause it looked the same...until the water hit it. Boy you guys really get slammed when it rains, I felt sorry y'all had to go through the extra work. At least the plastic didn't have to be held by hand...I have seen this amazing crew do that! Awwheck Tom is back already? Just cant stay away from the artwork! Figures, how many jobs can you mess up and no repercussions? Weatherman has no fear! Very nice job, I loved the look. Time changes in a week, will not be as dark on you at 7! Really liked and appreciated this video! Bought a RCBS Rockchucker yet? Hornady has best loading manuals, I have many but I've always liked Hornady best. I have Hornady's electronic scales but everything else dad bought in the 50's. Give it a try Steve, you'll like it! Thanks for sharing your work, I'm learning new stuff w every video!👍👌😁❤
Lots of labor in this job ,the video is the proof but dame it looks so good never seen that before . Hats off to you and your hard working crew on this beautiful looking driveway pad.
Love the look! The ex agg really defines the space. I was wondering whether the mix you order is the same for exposed aggregate as for broomed or stamped finishes?
For the regular broomed concrete, we use a limestone mix. For the stamped and exposed mix, we use a p-gravel mix that is still formulated for 4000-5000 psi. In this case, for this builder, we use 5000psi concrete. Good question and thanks for watching!
Hope Toms vacation was relaxing, the guys did a great job while you were gone. That exposed agrogate is so beautiful. I was curious how you got the stone exposed when it seems like you finished it as smoothly as you do regular concrete. The process really is labor intensive, but once again you and your crew rose to the challenge and make it look awesome! Good work and as entertaining and enlightening as ever. Thanks for the education.
Just amaizing!!!! Grettens buddy !! From Guadalajara Jalisco México! Your friend Albert! subscribed and follower of your channel! this video is a BIG LIKE!! it's a beautyful work! the edges, corners and margins are excellent!!
Another good one. Really like how you added the music in. I'm gonna learn concrete by the time I'm finished. lol. Still watching this one. But, planning on checking out more. Will always like, and share some for ya. Keep up the great work.
@@Concretewiththehauses Thank you, it sure is a blessing to have it in most residential projects. Light footprint and a lot of power that reaches almost anything. I think I forgot how to use a shovel already because of it. Great job on this exposed aggregate. I wish we did more of it.
Besides doing an amazing work, you are an amazing designer. The quality of your work is brilliant!. The exposed aggregate edge concrete is the perfect combination of perfection and design. Five stars work as usual!
Nice to have the operator in the front of the front by the shoot like that are concrete trucks aren’t like that , the way he controls the shoot and speed is perfect, great driver !! Makes your job a lot easier
We always use sugar water and expose the same day in Seattle. Then you can slap out any edger lines or fix any flaws and just sponge it. The way you're doing it seems like way more work.... also, we sugar water any adjacent concrete or house paint or stone before we pour. Then the splater just hoses right off.
i used to work concrete. It was a painfully laborious but rewarding job. Watching us turn what was once just some crap into a nice concrete driveway or one time we did a foundation for a school gymnasium come to life feels good. we would always stamp our work with our company logo when we did work for the city
Nice work! And a lot of work it was, too! I'd really like to see your projects 6 months later with full landscaping. If you could get permission to fly a drone over some of these worksites, with a ref. in notes to the orig. work projects, that would be great. You change environments so dramatically. I'd think it would be a great selling tool if you ever need one.
We use coke put a couple 2 liters in the sprayer. I found the sugar eats and keeps it pretty good for what you had after you cover we hardly ever have to cover unless it’s gonna rain over night.
When I worked road construction in the 70's we were doing a main street in a small town , they wanted exposed agg. on all of the bus stops , we had bigger river rock we had to put on top of the concrete , float it in then you waited a half hour or so and then took muriadic acid and cleaned the stones off , what a pain
Looks very good ,, and yes rain is never welcome in our business . something I always make sure is reinforcement should always be as close as possible to the center of the slab. But overall great looking job
I don’t know why I’m here watching you guys or how I got here, but your craft is amazing. If I’d had youtube in the 80’s, I’d have chosen a totally different career. Do you take 59 year old apprentices?
Looks great guys. I have no intention of ever doing any more concrete in my life (I've dabbled in hot tub pads, AC condenser pads, a few driveways, and some sidewalk repairs) but I really love learning about the processes. It seems silly that a guy would sit and watch other people pour.....by I gotta tell you it just never gets old watching a true craftsman ply his trade. Do you ever use a power trowel? Please talk about why/why not to use one for what you do and when is the appropriate time to use one.
We use them when it’s real hot or a floor over three or 4000 ft.² we can trowel them fast by hand we have several and use occasionally I’ll try and answer your question better in a video Thanks for watching
@@Concretewiththehauses Thanks for the response....I'm always curious to know and understand processes. Hat tip to Mike Morgan for turning me onto you guys. I look forward to every video.
Put ..heated driveway, stamped concrete, color mix, exposed aggregate, all on a 10° slope with construction work on site and throw in a sudden thunder shower halfway through the pour all on the same job !!! That would take anybody to...'The next level' !!!! LOL
Sorry to draw you back, what's the liquid (greenish) you sprayed before covering with the black plastic? and thank you for this amazing video... so informative
I often wondered what was involved in doing the exposed aggregate and yes, as someone said it is very labor intensive. Extremely messy too. Once that aggregate is exposed what is the next process: allowing it to dry somewhat or entirely and then seal it or what? Some of your other driveways you have done with exposed aggregate (like the large driveway with the diamond inlay) must have been an extensive job to power wash something like that. Do you get two power wash units for that? As always, attention to detail and as always a very impressive result. Great job to everyone.
You need a round floor surface cleaner attachment for your pressure washer saves hours and perfect even wash off and use top cast surface retarders don’t need to cover and can wait up to 24 hrs to wash off
Historically I have always wondered why concrete driveways were so expensive, but after watching your videos over the past several months I'm able to understand how much knowledge, skill and passion that goes in to your craft and now see the value. Thanks for creating such informative content.
I love the look of the exposed aggregate but I had no idea it was so labor-intensive to do it! Thanks for another great video! 👍🏼👏
exposed can be miserable at times, not uncommon for guys to be out there washing in the dark at 10pm on bad days.
That exposed aggregate is just beautiful. Thank you for showing how it is done. Crew did an excellant job.

Thanks
Wow, very very nice and a lot of work, great work, another show piece in the front of a very nice home, Tom and Steve nice job a work of ART

After pressure washing and clean up, do you also spray a sealer over the exposed aggregate. It looks great, really pops out on that turn around area.
Yes will put a light coat of gloss sealer on that exposed just raining To do right now thanks for watching
Great look!
Thats kinda different. When i did a big exposed aggregate driveway top deck and we finished it all in one day? Is there a reason you do it this way?
Amazing final result. Love it - could be a nice option to block edging. Nice work!

I've used clear plastic for 20 years doing exposed and it comes out the same with clear or black poly!!!
Is the concrete used for exposed aggerate a different mix that was used for the pads?
Good question I should’ve said this in the video the exposed aggregate is a 1B gravel mix and the broomed concrete is lime stone
Did you use a different aggregate for this to get the look of concrete that has been ground?
Yes, 1B gravel
@@Concretewiththehauses Limestone or granite?

Nice job as always!!
How much vehicle weight can these pads hold? How thick is the concrete?
I saw them pulling the rebar up, but the wire mesh doesn't look like it's been pulled up at all & is just sitting on the ground doing nothing 🤔
Beautiful!
Old school flat work...Great crew and it looks sweet!
all your wire and rebar is on the ground under the concrete?......

What kind of mix did you pour for the border?
1- B
