David Maus is hands down one of the top cold plunge reviewer. I did my first diy cold plunge based on his channel. He was kind enough to response to me on social media. His response has helped me tremendously. Thank you again David.
Thanks for the great review. Looking at the ModTub and the Dessert plunge. I am also in FL and trying to figure what will be best for an outside unit. Love the hat by the way!
David, thanks for your channel. What do you think about Yeti 350 as an alternative to the Grizzly cooler? Same set up otherwise (same 1/4HP chiller, pump, filters). I’m in Canada and Yeti 350 here costs actually less than the Grizzly 450 after tax and shipping (because Yeti has an established presence in Canada and offer free shipping unlike Grizzly). There is just no cheap way to get a Grizzly 450 here. I like the fact that Grizzly is a bit more spacious, but wondering if Yeti would be just fine…
@@DavidMausJr thanks David for the response. Couldn’t you also just attach a hose to the return top valve from the inside of the cooler and drain it that way? If yes, is there a point of even having a shut off valve?
Love your videos. So well made. I’ve been using for 3 years now a 150 gallon rubber made tub. Living in Chicago gives me the benefit of long winters where I don’t need to buy ice. Anyways, is there a way to set up this system without using the filter ? I seriously don’t see the need. I’m just sitting in it. The thought of having to buy filters is a buzz kill.
Between this and ice up industries which one should I buy? This is a budget stretch for me so I really need the best built product I can get. Thanks the content. Really helpful. Also beautiful family. God bless
David, any thoughts? From what i understand The grizzly 450s have two drain ports that can use adapters to use standard diameter hose as plumbing. That should mean no additional holes in $1300 cooler.
Hey @david, nice review! What are your thoughts on using ozone and adding hydrogen peroxide in the water every once in a while? Have you done that? Any downsides to doing that? I’ve read that ozone and hydrogen peroxide together can have a negative reaction that may cause irritation to the skin. Have you experienced that at all? I’m looking to add the JED ozone generator to my build. Thanks again for your feedback
I like it! I use both pretty consistently with all my plunges and no issues. Just don’t overdue it. I use a cup of HP at first fill up and about a cap extra every week.
Hey David. Looking to purchase a home cold plunge. Do you like Mod Tub or Desert Plunge better. I know they are using the same cooler, but wondering which you prefer overall and why. Thanks in advance.
@davidmausjr Would you recommend the 1HP cooler for Someone staying in SoCal Inland Empire using It in the back yard patio or is rye 1/2 HP cooler cold enoug?
What range do recommend for a smaller chiller 1/3HP. Is better to have a small range 1-2 degrees so it turns on/off more or larger range so it runs longer but turns off/on less?
I’m looking into the modtub. Currently using the DIY 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tub with ice blocks. I am 5 foot nine and 190 pounds and I like to get into that tub up to my occipital bone at the back of my head. Based on this video, it’s sort of looks like this may be too small to do that. What are your thoughts? I know you said you’re 6-1. Could you get down to just below your ears?
400 is not made anymore, so they'll have to find an alternative or commission Grizzly to build them one(400 size). That's what Desert Plunge did. Also noticed NO BRACKET to keep lid up, so if it's windy or by chance it somehow slams shut, hopefully you'll have time to catch/block the lid. Def not cool if kids are playing in it. Other than that, build is about the same as Desert Plunge. BTW, they could have easily pre drilled the Ozone holes as they did for the filter backet.
Both are great and very similar. Might have to make a video on the differences so you can choose easier. Main difference is the colors and the ozone being built in as an option or not.
This build can be done for around 2k if you like to DIY. Save a thousand dollars and do a little drilling. The ozone generator in my list does not require drilling for the tube. It’s a much better option than what mod tub provides. Grizzly 400 - $849.00 Active Aqua 1/2hp Chiller - $849.00 (less if you can find used) Abhor Ozone Generator and Venturi connector - $110 Whole House Filter - $50 Hoses and fittings - $35 Mag-drive 12 Danner Pump - $123.00
On the FB groups there is a guy that is 6’7” using the modtub with no problems. It’s obviously a little tight for him, but still works. So this plunge will work for 99% of the population.
@@SwayzeeSoul the guy in the video fits no problem lmao, what are you talking about? What’s your insta, I’ll gladly send you the photo of the 6’7 guy in the grizzly 400.
What is YOUR favorite (or dream) color for a Cold Plunge?
Great video! I am almost ready to pull the trigger! Thanks for the great review! I love your style!
Awesome! Thank you!

I love my Modtub! Favorite color is red.
It’s vibrant! Love it!

Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Undecided on buying the Modtub or Desert Plunge. I do live in Arizona. Would love to hear your thoughts, pros and cons of each. Thanks David!
Ditto!
The answer is they’re both good and almost identical. If it were me I probably just go desert plunge because they’re more local to you.
Do you get into your cold plunge with the chiller and pump running ? Or do you turn them off before doing a plunge?

Thanks for another sweet video. How do you drain a modtub and desert plunge? Can’t find a video on it anywhere.
Thanks! It’s simple, just unscrew the bottom fitting

Does the Modtub have a safety latch on the lid?
To keep it closed. Yes. But not up.

Let’s go!!

This for sure. Ice Up is a good start but the chiller and components of the Mod are strong and simple to fix, it ever needed.
As a fellow Floridian do you have a housing for the chiller or is it exposed to the elements?
All of my chillers are exposed to the elements with no issues :)

Yes if you’re looking to DIY. Lots of options out there if you want to DIY one.
Can you add epsom salt or anything to help? What do you recommend?

With this type of insulation 1/2 or even 1/4 works
Mod tub vs desert plunge? Debsting on lne or the other whats your take? I plan to use ozone with it
Both are awesome and similar. The tub size is the main difference. If you want bigger, go DP, if you want smaller footprint go MT, both offer ozone.
How often do you completely change your water in general for your plunges?
Usually once a month
What range do recommend for a smaller chiller 1/3HP. Is better to have a small range 1-2 degrees so it turns on/off more or larger range so it runs longer but turns off/on less?
Are these available in the uk?
I don’t believe so
Does the chiller heat the water too just in case it gets colder than your target temp?

It really doesn’t seal that good. Go into any of the owners groups and you’ll see people adding weathstrips because bugs are getting in.
