  • The Worst Watch To Service ? Vintage Watch Accuracy ? - Talking To A Master Watchmaker !
In today's episode of Federico Talks Watches I talk to my master watchmaker Hansy and I ask him certain questions. How accurate can a vintage watch be? What is the most annoying watch movement to service? What does he think about silicone parts? All that and much more in todays episode.
Thank you Hansy for joining us!
    Thanks for all the support!

Make more episodes with this guy. He is very cool. Question for the master watchmaker : what would be the maximum life span for a watch? If I buy a brand new rolex today and service it every 5 years at an authorized rolex location could it last 100 years? (assuming I’m still around then)

Great interview Fed, Hansie is not only knowledgable as hell he's funny and a good screen presence as well. Loved how blunt he was about Si, might be cool to hear his opinion on Seiko Spring Drive and some of the newer Vacheron movements (4400 etc.) in a future vid.

Any content with Hans is a pleasure and a joy. Amazingly interesting!
I was wondering how Hans sees watches which are priced so high (Richard Mille, etc.) which, even not even rarity or materials can justify. Does he like any of these brands in particular, all of them? If he was given $100k + to spend on a watch (not his own), what would he buy??
Also, what is his favorite dive watch??????

    • @technicaldirectorhorology5663

Would be cool to hear his (and your) opinions on regional differences for watchmaking, like from Japan to Germany to Switzerland. Maybe how the philosophy or technology differentiate between them.
Another thing that could be cool is if you picked some crazy obscure complicated watches and had him guess the retail price based on the functions of the watch, that could be a fun game!
Or maybe which movements solved problems in a creative or innovative way and which movements attempted to fix a problem but ultimately failed
These are my favorite of your videos, simple but great!

    • @technicaldirectorhorology5663
      @technicaldirectorhorology5663 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

From the three you mentioned I like the Swiss style the best. German watchmaking has a different aesthetic to it. Japan is pure straight to the point but also precisely made like the others without much decoration. I like my own creations the best. LOL

Great video Fed, as always. Enjoyed Hans' insights, have him on more often. Constructive comment - you should invest in mics (Jory has done this, sounds much better) to improve the audio. Maybe a future video Hans could discuss common repair issues with certain types of watches, ie Rolex GMT Master, Omega Speedmaster, etc. Could be done as a series? Thanks

Great video Fed as ever - loved hearing Hans’ knowledgeable opinion on the El Primero ( Hans is a legend have him in more please ) an iconic watch / movement to be sure - question is I’m thinking of buying a new one for my 50th ... but now I’m not so sure - when did Zenith start putting silicon parts into the mechanism ? I’m thinking now I should buy older to avoid the silicon parts ? ( as they are brittle and ultimately can break ...) I love the watch but want to make sure I get the correct model and avoid heartache down the line...would appreciate your comments

Awesome Frederick and Hans...thank you for the video. Interesting info re silicone. Could you comment on this pls....is there a sweet spot between letting a watch run down and “relax” vs using a winder from time to time if like me (sorry if this sounds offensive) you have a few too many watches to wear in rotation? I am trying to understand where the balance is between the wearing down of the mechanism vs wear on the crown seals. Thanks

I work as a machinist and I'd be very interestined in hearing anything about the manufacturing of watch movement components. Interesting.. Should make more series with him..
Btw regarding the silicon and many more anti magnetic materials / technology, I wonder what his views on someone who has a mechanical watch and using a train or mono rail transportation on daily basis. I wonder if he can explain what’s going on with the watch movement (escapement, transmission, or regulation) since the accuracy of the watch will be impacted and disturbed by the magnetic field..

    • @technicaldirectorhorology5663

Sooooooo Tudors new movement breaks easily? Planning to get a Pelagos and if the silicone parts break easily than that would be a deal breaker.

In my humble opinion SILICONE is not here to stay. It was a fade. And it is SCHEISSE.

Having watched so many videos and seeing this video which is a year old, I definitely think Hansi should be there more often... my suggestion, do a video yourself, then have JohnP pn the 2nd one, and then with you, JohnP and Hansi.... try and make the last video longer with Q&A etc... It would be the most interesting 30 minutes of 2.5 minds ;) (sorry, no names)

Exclusively wearing my own creations. Thank you for watching. In this episode it was a Roman numerals GMT with a two tone mechanism.

Would Hansy be interested in replacing the silicon parts on a defy watch? Is there an estimated time and price for this service?
