Would you be able to share how to make those custom brackets for seatbelts? I don't want to cut the soft top frame. They don't look as clean as your set up.
Awesome! You actually added in cargo space with this too! And it looks OEM. I’m deciding between an SW20 and a Z30 but if I get the Z30 I’ll definitely do this.
For the door plastic trim pieces. Go and see how original car with hardtop look. You should see that on top there will be a cut in a trim peace for the bracket to fit. You can copy that desing and cut your original pieces to fit hardtop brackets.
Great video! I'm using your automotive carpet idea. I found a local junkyard with a spare top and hacked that one for an oem bracket and oem interior plastic to fit.
Great videos of your MR2, I was just curious where you purchased your hardtop I have an MR2 spyder and the soft top is faded love the way a hard top looks
Like the vid dude! Im missing my middle hardtop mounting posts, been trying to get a good 360 look at what i need to make, the perfect shot is in this vid! Thanks man! Would love to know the measurements of the brackets...
I will be taking my soft top out soon in my MR2, easily to just mod the OEM brackets - you do rather need the bracing, the OEM cross brace is around 2kg (I weighed mine), don't use it as a harness bar though! You could have just got the solid mount kits instead of trying to go custom?
I am in the process of rebuilding a Spyder and am considering modifying the original brace by getting rid of the soft top folding mechanism. I will post a video if I do go that route.
Came across one of these for sale near me and that ended up leading me to this page. Live in Ohio so I’m not sure for practicality, but debating getting this one to save some gas as a daily.
I live in sunny South Florida.....my tip is always down.....have no use for a hardtop.....great video....how about making one to replace the softop.....
I just bought an mr2 about a month ago with the intentions of redoing it how I want it. It’s been super helpful to watch your videos and get some new ideas! Where are you finding your aftermarket parts and whatnot?
Man it looks like there's so much more storage. I might have to do this in the future if/when I ever have enough expendable cash for a hardtop (they're so damn expensive now). Honestly it'd be nice to be able to go through a hands-free car wash for once haha
In the rear bins the side panels pop out to give you extra storage - it even says on the side panels that they are removable to get some extra space back there.
given the fixed seats, you're probably less than stock. Also, sacrificing a little bit of weight for a gain in rigidity of the body with the hardtop is worth it in my book. You can always shed other weight elsewhere.
brabo friend now you have spase you make toyota cry becose before the car was expensive in the shop with the soft top that wy toyota never sell hard top i like your car now you can go every were with your things and you dont afraid if enybody cut your soft top and stll your car

Cant go wrong with either of those and Im glad you liked the video
I'd say definitely go with the w30. I love my sw20 but I wish it was lighter. power isn't everything for me
would you be willing to make/sell a set of those brackets? I would absolutely buy a pair and I'm sure others would too. thx!

I wonder if a person could sit back there. Will definitely do this soon.
ive had 6 people in mine before

Do you think the cars original support bar is strong enough for a seat harness? I'm at the point in a build project that I'm considering using it.

i bought a junkyard soft top for $40 and used a harbor freight die grinder to cut the brackets myself. $55 total spent
Well done young man! Keep the vids coming.
Gillian Dalziel Thank you!

nice video!!! where did u get the hard top? i’m currently looking for one at the moment, and how does it feel now that u have it on?
Did you ever find one?
It's okay if gain 10 lbs. with that hardtop you're adding rigidity
How did you make the seatbelt/HT brackets that replaced the original soft top ones?
very interesting. good to know how much it weighs. i might remove my soft top in that case. 50lb!

Nothing too crazy
unfortunately convertibles are not that popular here in Malaysia so kind of hard to find specialists in restoring soft tops.
