      Ove been watching Petko since season 1 and he has exoanded so much. You can but isopods on the internet and they are so easy to care for. They eat fruit, vegetables, hair, toe nails and meat like bacon, chicken, ham etc. They are also good forceating dead flies, but you can't release them in the wild as they may not originally come from where you live.

    hey Dark Den! Just wanted to say that basically none of your substrate mix is going to be habitable for the isopods. Youll need a nice layer of good grade soil with rotting woods,leaves,calcium,compost,top soil ect. Specifically your Brevicornis species is a heavy burrower!

    • @reubendaly827
      @reubendaly827 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as well as eggshells or cuttlebone for calcium during molts

    • @TheDarkDen
      @TheDarkDen  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I actually have rotting wood prepared but I forgot to mix it in, and calcium will be added periodically...there are ton of leaves. Adding soil was not an option for this type of enclosure

    So excited for this. It looks amazing! It appears that we are in need of an eviction already? We can't have house spiders killing our little buddies before they have had a good chance to grow their numbers! Can't wait to see how you are going to handle this little obstacle. If we had already established our colony I wouldn't worry, but it's early so I would want to have them around to reproduce before natural predation takes place. You are always going to have local spiders getting in. An enclosure that size is always going to have extra guests. In the future it will help keep the isopods numbers from getting to high. Funny how you still can't keep nature truly contained. 😂🕷❤️

    Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but most Isopods need a source of calcium, so could be worth hiding some limestone under areas of the substrate. Also, keep an eye out for dead Isopods in the water as mine sometimes find a way into water and drown in my bioactive terrariums

    • @someoneelse1259
      @someoneelse1259 ปีที่แล้ว

      And another issue is mixing them, the panda kings and rubber Ducky's will probably die out

    • @Nick-et1uh
      @Nick-et1uh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@someoneelse1259 probably. I had that issue with rubber duckies at first, but I ended up putting all mine in a 90x45x90 exo terra and making the whole thing a limestone cave with water at the bottom, covered by stainless steel mesh and fabric mesh to prevent any falling in and drowning. They've been doing great as I covered the top which traps humidity, and the size of the enclosure means they don't need ventilation 24/7

  • @MyUlster1690

    I have a big glass tank with about 4 different breeds of isopods and they all mate with eachother so have dome different morphs, also i have noticed some isopods attacking eachother, they are very cannibalistic but still really fun to watch, also in about 6 months you will be overrun in there with the little crustaceans. It's looking, good luck Petko. 👍

    You have some sneaky spiders using your junglarium! Pretty sure your ispods will thrive in this place even if a few get caught... I like that there are so many species already in your enclosure. Would you consider putting in some beetle species, mantids, or even your 'spiny assassin' guys ? Ants would be too much trouble if it were a big colony they will escape and they will predate on a lot of your smaller species, too, but there are loads of tiny critters you could think about. What about 'earwigs'/ "dermaptera sp.' or your tailless whip scorpion species ? So impressive this project is.
