In today's video I'm just back from a few days away and straight back into it setting up for the next move. I also have some big news that I've been keeping to myself for a while.
Just fixed a 3 cylinder Massey 135 diesel and delivered it to the owner like yourself, she had a big smile 😊😊. That one of yours you be able to put a decent Slasher and post hole driver. Our we still aloud to talk to you now with that big boy 😅😅😅
Good sensible buy! It'll only increase in value. Even on a small farm it's worth having 2 tractors, even though my second one doesn't get much use its handy when I need it.
390 with the 3 lever gearbox was the first 4 wheel drive tractor many farmers bought, i wish you every success with it and hope it serves you well for many years to come.
Hi great video aways watch them , Remember if you put new Tyers later the tractor will be 2 3 inches higher just thinking about the roof alterations 😮 many thanks for the videos .
Might be worth looking for a second hand set of rear wheels in a smaller size, I was going to say if you get new look for a lower profile but that would probably be pointless as they'd be the same size as they are now. I'd say a pair of rear wheels next size down would be your best bet can pick them up reasonably priced sometimes for the 80s/90s tractors@@karenmoynihanfarm
Don't change the rear wheel size. The gear ratio with the front wheels will be wrong, it will destroy the gears and front axle. Stick to original sizes for your type of work.
Hi Karen, you have lived out your dream of owning a MF 390 tractor. With you working full time does puts pressure on getting the chores done on the farm. The MF 150 has been an amazing tractor helping your family out since the 1970, but there are some jobs it struggles with now. Some people buy cats or dogs, but you buy a tractor. Now the weather is improving it will be easier having all the cattle outside. Enjoy your new toy. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
Well wear Karen, best of luck with it!..... you're not alone with fretting before a big purchase.... I still do 30 year on! But that soon passes when you see the versatility it brings you. When you work off farm you have make things easier at home. That tractor will give you good service.
Well ware with the 390. We had a 2wd drive 390 for 14 years and did everything, drew bales with a single handler, agitated slurry with a wexoman agitator, pulled a 1600 gallon tank, drew silage for a relation with a 16ft redrock, cut all the silage at home 70 acres a year with an 8ft 6 class disco mower, spread fertilizer with a 1 ton spreader. Great tractor. Like your story time is an issue with us we changed it so we could draw 3 bales at a time and things got bigger at home machinery wise.
That's a great purchase, you'll be very happy with it. I've worked on them and it's and good mechanical tractor with no computer parts. Should last you a long time. It's a perfect size for your operation. Proud of your wise decision. Don't loose any sleep. Great tractor..... and you look awesome sitting in it. Have a great day Karen.
Well done loverly tractor looked after and washed down well after spreading fertiliser it will do all you need for another 50 years, these newer tractors full of electrics will never last that long, great comment about getting a weight block with a quick coupler on the back
Well ware Karen, a lovely 390, they like a bit of heat before they start, if it hasn't it all ready a high speed starter motor makes a huge difference.
Good upgrade on your tractor, they are not cheap but in fairness most tractors hold their value, its nice horsepower, sensible tractor, in good condition with good level of comfort for u, u need some element of comfort for your hard work, well done Karen, when u get a few spare euro spend it on your 135 and keep it for nice small second tractor, well done Karen, good luck with your new tractor, when u pick a loader take time and pick the correct one for your sheds and work load, something that is quick attach and detach, easy and quick if u want take it off, well done, up and onwards, u deserve the new tractor, 😊
My parents owned a mf398 4x4 and a mf399 4x4 both had mf 848 loaders . There are a few things to watch for with those tractors . Where the steel fill tube goes in the fuel tank over time they let water in . There is a screen in the fuel pump on right side of tractor should be cleaned once a year .The gear oil in the front axle and in the hubs also the breather vents on all three . The planitary gears and barrings are alot of money you don't want that expence yhe oil goes in the hub its self behind the wheel . On the Ebrake the pin that holds the cables to the brake handle likes to wear the cutter pin don't let the pin fall out it is very hard to get back in the cables!!!! If you have any questions please ask .
Good tractors the 390 good all rounder,we made a low profile cab for them where I used to work at Alexander Duncan tractor cabs Aberdeen, 390 very good investment!🚜
Well wear on your new purchase, of course it had to be a Massey Ferguson what else could they work 😀 if you just let some air out of the back tyres it might fit into the shed, just a temporary solution.
Well done Karen great choice of make model and age of a tractor. Best of luck with your purchase. Cant wait to see ya bringing in bales with it during the summer 🤠🤠
Hi Karen, Congratulations on your new tractor. It looks to be in very good condition. I bought the same myself in 2019 and restored it in 2020 during the 1st lockdown. I everything that I needed for it from dhfarmmachinery in Galway. I had a loader on mine and it was well able to manage the bales. The only thing that you will need for it is a back weight block to give you a lot more stability when you will be moving bales around. A 750kg quick attach concrete weight block is perfect for it, and it definitely will make the job a lot safer. You definitely made the right decision. While it is great having a loader in a yard, the tractor will be just as good, and you will be able to get a lot more use from it. If you go online, you will be able to pick up an operators manual and a maintenance manual for it. There will be a load of jobs that you will be able to do to it yourself, servicing, etc. Well done.
Well done with the 390 Karen! Your hard work brought the tractor . The Lord knows you deserve newer equipment to make it easier for ya . Good luck with it. Take care! From Virginia,USA
Well fair play to you Karen, the very best of luck with the tractor. I cut silage with a 390 back in the 90tys, an absolutely fantastic tractor. It will do you a lifetime.
Hey Karen, Well look at you, Going all up town with the new tractor to you. Congratulations on your purchase too. Enjoted your video, Thanks for sharing.
Well done on your purchase they hold there value brilliantly. If it doesn't have one put an isolation switch on it. It can prevent a electrical fire and also prevent batteries draining. Love the videos
W0W! Karen, such a nice tractor. I too am a Massy fan. The smile and grin on your face says it all. About time that you treated yourself girl! I wish you well. Pleased you are keeping your grandads tractor, which has served you well. Keep up your good work ❤️
The 390’s a brilliant choice. Whether or not you were spoiled by the loader, doing yourself in over moving bales wouldn’t be good. Especially with your day job being principal.
Great video. Congratulations on buying the 390, it’s not a 390T as you said but think of it as your 390G. It’s perfect for you, it’ll last just as long as the 135 if minded. My 390T starts like my 135, first tip of the key as they say, maybe check the battery cables, starter motor connections & earth to maximise the initial cranking speed. Buy the Loader you have on demo even if it’s on Hire Purchase and don’t put a front loader on the 390. If it doesn’t have one already get a battery isolator fitted, do the same with the 135 while you’re at it… keep them safe from electrical fires when parked-up. Keep up the good work.
That tractor is a HUGE improvement for you. We have a 398 and it's such a great tractor. And those tractors are going up in price too. It breaks my back seeing you forking in silage. Delighted for you!
My dad had 3 390 tractors when i was growing up, the first one he had was a 390T with the 3 stick gear box it was a 1990 model on a G reg, the other 2 had the 12/12 and were On M reg, lovely wee tractors
Best of luck with her Karen, have a look at rearend loaders before you buy a loader. I work a McKenna backend loader with a silage grab feeding similar number of cattle. Youd buy one for well under a thousand, they are far more manoeuvreable than a front loader and wont wear out your steering. The only downside is you're looking over your shoulder while working it.
Those 390's hold their value well, it's always the same when you buy a tractor you always end up altering a shed somewhere you'd be as well on raising the door a foot if you can it will leave you better clearance working the loader in the doorway. Best of look with it it looks a tidy one
Thats an excellent example of the 390 Karen - with the best most reliable gearbox ever put in in such a tractor, the 3 stick one. If you get chance to put a pair of front mudguards and a small box on the front to chuck bits & bobs in. A pair of hook ends for the arms will make hitching up easier but thats certainly not an essential. Well done, good buy, a nice example like that will always hold its value. Has it done many hours?
If you find starting becomes an issue, there is a high geared starter that you can get which makes a night and day difference. Isolator switch on the negative battery terminal is a good idea for when not in use is a good idea.
Beautiful Tractor Karen. The farm where i was they also had to choose between a 300 series, or 3000. It would have been a 100HP (399) or 3085 then. Because how much hours it would make, they choose the 3085. With lot of lifting and hydraulics use the 3000 series is more comfortable. I think you made a good choice also with this tractor.
It’s very tidy and like the 135 a collectible tractor, great decision! Just do little jobs on it when you can. 390’s seem to be increasing in value, particularly tidy examples and you wouldn’t be doing many hours on it.A shrewd business decision on your part. Personally I wouldn’t put a loader on it, maybe on the 135? If you did put a loader on it would be able to clean your sheds out with it? It won’t be as manoeuvrable as the loader you have been using. Have you thought about a skid steer loader? Glad your keeping the 135. It’s a big thumbs up from me!👍
Well wear with the new tractor. Honestly once you have the front loader on it, you won't know yourself. You'll wonder how you ever managed without it. 👍👍👍
Congratulations Karen on your new tractor. If the sun roof is catching a bit on the door check your tire pressure. If you're not driving too much on the roads you can let out a little air and it will drop down a little bit. And I agree with you on tractor purchases. People laughed at me because I went backwards 10 years. I sold my tractor and purchased a 1979 tractor because it had a front end loader. It has spoiled both my wife and I
Hi Karen, L9vely purchase , Best of luck with it, 390 holds good value, Now 2weeks ago a farm clearance sale, A 1997 390 with loader 4½k hrs & very tidy panel & paintwork & cab, Mainly lady driver 50% tyres made £21k, Check rear axle oul colour, Make sure it clear, careful as the oil that stays in the dipstick tube doesn't circulate with the rest of the oil in axle, Well it may wear👍
Great tractor karen and once you have to loader on it'll make a massive difference in the winter, and the little 135 can have some rest though 😉 the cattle look well too by the way, your doing a great job 👍
Well ware Karen. I wish you all the very best with your new Massey. Very clean looking machine. I hope it's very safe and lucky for you 🍀 A great investment for the farm.
Hi Karen..delighted for you and your 390 purchase. Excellent choice and it will not disappoint ..now you will have to look forward to buying bigger equipment...powerbox..trailer, tanker etc..👍😁
Oh Karen! I'm so happy for you! Getting a tractor is the best. You've done well. Hopefully the youtube will get you a new tractor shed in the future as well. Fingers crossed and prayers sent. Also, that little black and white calf is precious!
Nice to see you have a tractor that you wanted. You mention that it is not so great at starting as the 135. There is a fuel filter over the fuel lift pump that may be blocked. I know from having a MF 362. Changing that transformed the tractor. It went like a rocket afterwards. You won't regret putting a loader on it but when you do if you can get one with parrell lift action it is a very nice feature to have, but not essential. Thank you for the video.
Congratulations and well wear on the new Mf 390 great tractor, I hope it will be as reliable as the 135,you will have great comfort with it when you get going, not many cattle out in our part of the country yet ground is still to wet, another great video

Great video Karen, a nice clean well maintained tractor a few wear and tear jobs to do but a good buy . Always a pleasure to watch, and listen to . ❤
Thank you very much
So thats how the Irish Jig started stomping hay!

At least with that new tractor you can put a loader on it to help you feed up in the winter. Great tractor and well done
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊😊

Beautiful Karen.
